Red Lips & Soft Fingers { h i a t u s }

chapter seven
      it hurts;
                                                                                                                                                                                                                           -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

His fingers were gently brushing over the many spins of the books the shelf owned, making a smile lit up his handsome face each time he touched a book he had already read. They brought him beautiful memories at the time they were lectured that’s why his lips couldn’t help but curl upwards at the sight of them. His head slowly a side as he reached the section he was looking for: math. He needed some more textbooks from which he had to give Joonmyun to solve more exercises, that’s why Jongdae found himself in such a beautiful afternoon spending time in the library. Not that he minded or something. He actually loved that place; more or less.

A faint cough coming from somewhere behind him made Chen’s body tense as he suddenly became nervous. There was no need for him to turn around and see who it belonged to; he already knew the answer.

“Hey!” Kris was the confident type, he always was, and that’s why it came surprising for Chen when that simple ‘hey’ sounded more like a murmur instead of a greeting.

The smaller boy leaned forward to pick up the textbook his eyes landed on. “How can I help you?” he asked in a low voice, being perfectly aware of the fact that his heart was throbbing madly, ready to jump out of his chest in any following second.

Kris only rubbed his nape and not even in the moment Jongdae turned at him with questioning eyes, he said a thing. Actually, the Chinese didn’t know if it was a good idea to put the question he wanted to, or not. He didn’t want to make the latter believe he actually cares at least a bit about him and the things he does.

“I want to ask you something,” he sighed in the end, still being a little insecure. “Something that bothered me the past few days,” he added, more like whispered, thing that caused Chen to frown but still woke up inside him a tint of curiosity, and after he hesitantly nodded his head, Kris continued. “What is going on between you and Kim Joonmyun?”

It felt weird, for both of them; for Kris because he wasn’t used to ask people about things that didn’t concern him, and for Chen because he didn’t expect to be asked such a thing. Jongdae didn’t have a prepared answer to reply Kris with yet, because, well, he himself didn’t know what was there between him and Suho. But was there something? Weren’t they just like a teacher and a student? But Jongdae felt at ease around Joonmyun. Could it be…?

”We are friends.” The answer came out so naturally that even Chen himself was surprised by it, not to mention YiFan’s expression in that moment.

“Friends?” the taller one raised an eyebrow, wanting to make sure this was Jongdae’s final answer. The other only nodded. “Friends!” Kris scoffed causing Chen’s eyes grow bigger. All the nervousness he had vanished the second that mocking sound escaped the Chinese’s lips. Was Kris actually laughing at him?

“Yes! Friends! Is this disturbing you?” Kris titled his head on a side and smirked, making the latter feel extremely offended. “Is it bothering you?” Jongdae said through his teeth, disappointment being visible all over his face.

“You don’t know Kim Joonmyun the way I do.” YiFan shook his head and turned around to leave, but when he heard Chen’s following sentence he couldn’t help but feel like somebody stuck a knife inside his heart.

“I knew you were a jerk, but not such a big one.”

Kyungsoo was in his way towards cafeteria when he bumped into a muscular construction which caused him to stumble backwards and hit a random girl that was passing by. He quickly apologized to both of the students and just when he raised his head to look at the boy, he did realize who that person actually was, thing that made his face suddenly brighten.

“Sorry,” he shrugged, swaying from one foot to another. “I didn’t see you.” He stated, not that the fact was not obvious enough.

“It’s okay.” Joonmyun beamed. “I’m also sorry,” he awkwardly said, randomly gesturing with his hands “…you know, that night.” The other frowned. “I’m sorry for trying to warm up your…hands,” he lamely added, trying to chuckle, thing that came out pretty forced.

“Oh…” Kyungsoo nodded. “It’s alright.” And after that, he had no idea what to say next.

They looked so dumb, and the atmosphere was also so odd. They only kept standing there, in the middle of the corridor, staring at each other. Joonmyun seemed to be ready to burst in laughter since he kept biting his bottom lip to keep the sound inside, but the doe-eyed one couldn’t help but stare at him and wonder how somebody can look so naturally cute. Kyungsoo felt bad for thinking that since the next scene which popped out inside his mind was that in which he was on the floor with Suho on top of him, their lips tightly pressed against each other’s.

His cheeks reddened and his heart, his insane heart, started racing like afraid to not be caught by a horrifying thing: the truth. He didn’t want Joonmyun to know the truth, but in the same time, he badly wished to let him know that he, the red-haired boy, whose smile was as blinding as the sun, and whose talent was almost unreachable, was the one who owned his lips, and who also started owning him, Do Kyungsoo, bit by bit.

“Weird.” Suho finally started to laugh. “Where were you heading?” the latter pointed the end of the corridor. “Oh, cafeteria I see.”

“I’m meeting Jongin there.”

“Jongin, of course!” Suho chuckled, the moved forward and ruffled Kyungsoo’s hair.  “I’ll see you around then.”

“I guess…”

“I’m telling you, he obviously wants to get in your pants.” Jongin stated while munching his food. He kept frantically moving his chopsticks, annoying Yixing to death.

“Are you sure?” came a hesitantly Chanyeol who couldn’t help but eye a certain petite boy, two tables away from them. Kai only hummed.

“Had you ever paid attention at the stares he gives you?” The taller one’s cheeks turned a bright shade of red.

“I didn’t realize that.” He mumbled, causing Jongin roll his eyes.

“Of course you didn’t,” he then averted his eyes at Yixing’s untouched lunch. “Are you still eating that?” The Chinese only shook his head and with an amused grin, he pushed the tray at the latter.

“Should I ask for his number?”

“No way!” Lay pulled out his phone and checked the hour. “That’s too sudden. Just wait to see if he wants something serious or not. Don’t make a mistake and regret it later.”

“Oh, you’re right. I wouldn’t want that.” Chanyeol pressed his lips in a firm line and nodded. “You’re actually a nice guy, Yix—”

“Kai!” a girl excitingly shouted, running like crazy to their table. “Oh, God, Kai! I’ve been looking for you for like, ten minutes now.” She pulled out of her bag some papers and placed them in front of the said one. “Guess what?” Her eyes were shining due to the happiness which filled her heart at that moment, thing that confused Jongin. What was she looking for him?

“What?” he asked, dumbfounded.

“Well,” she pointed the first thing written on the page, “At this time next week, there will be our high school’s Spring Festival and I thought that, if you’re not busy, you could help me with my number.”

“What?” Kai asked, again, not really paying attention at the girl’s words.

“I want to dance! With you! At the Spring Festival!”

“Oh,” Jongin nodded. The truth was, he wasn’t really in the mood of practicing with a random girl for such a meaningless occasion, so he couldn’t say ‘yes’. “I’m busy. Find somebody else. Sorry.” He flashed a smile, then went back eating Yixing’s lunch.

“Then…” she bit into her bottom lip and with a disappointed expression, turned to look at the Chinese. “I guess I’ll have to do it with you in the end, Lay.”

Yixing couldn’t believe her words. So, after all, he was just a choice though. How shameful of him. And his wasn’t just a simple second choice. He was everybody’s second choice after him, Kim Jongin, the person he hated and loved the most, in the same time.

“Find somebody else.” He coldly hissed, then stood up to leave.

“Where are you going?” Kai yelled after him, but Yixing didn’t even think to look back. He didn’t want to see Jongin at that time. He was sure it would have made his angriness grow bigger. And he hated it! It hurt him, a lot!

“Hey Kyungsoo, can I ask you a favor?”

“Sure.”

“Can you tutor Joonmyun for me tomorrow, please?”

“But—”

“Pretty please? I really have to take care of my little cousin. Please, please?”

“…alright! I guess I can try.”

                                                                                                                                                                                                                           -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------                                                                                                                                                                             cr
