Our Keeper of Time

Description

Nam Woohyun is just a college student beginning his first year. Things are running smoothly until he meets a boy by the name of Kim Sunggyu. Just when he feels as if he'll lose his sanity, something extraordinary happens to the both of them in an accident while taking a bus to the market and his life turns upside down in a matter of seconds. The accident leaves him with a disorder that splits his personality in two. One personality falls head over heels for the boy, while the other denies these new, scary feelings and avoids him.

Kim Sunggyu is just a college student starting third year. He and his group of friends are just barely slipping through life as quietly as possible. One day, not long after the beginning of the season, he runs into a younger boy named Nam Woohyun. Everything he once knew about those fluffy feelings in his stomach begins to evolve, and he slowly starts to fall apart inside for this boy. Soon after, a car accident changes the world for these two, as Sunggyu is blessed with the strange and phenomenal ability to pause time for a couple seconds at a time.

Foreword

Nam Woohyun:

I pulled the gummy earbuds out of my ears and looked up at the sky. It was just about time for me to attend my first day of college. I was nervous, but I tried my best to be indifferent. Indifference is what saves my sanity, keeps my mind at peace and lets me drown out all of the bad things that corrupt people. I looked at the time on my iphone and shoved it back in my pocket. 8:05, time for Appreciation of the Arts. I looked to my left and saw a girl and a boy walking together, slapping each other lightly on the shoulder and laughing at silly comments they exchanged. I sighed and walked to the building marked Art App. on my campus map. It was a small, crummy looking building. Square, plain, brick building with a dead shrub next to the door. I contemplated on whether or not I should just walk in or skip and pretend I didn't know where it was because I was new. I went in. Luckily it was empty, with the exception of a tall skinny boy in the corner breathing into a book, sniffing occasionally. I picked a seat in the very back and threw my bag onto the ground clumsily. It wasn't but 5 minutes and people had already begun to flood in, chatter and commotion stirring up the nervous feelings that began to find their way back into my lungs, taking my breath away and causing my throat to close up. Just as I started to think about getting up and leaving, my heart fluttered. I blinked, blinked harder, blinked again. Why is it that some random guy who just walked in has made my head spin? A guy. Male. A... GUY. A medium height, squinty eyed, russet-haired, boy with black, framed glasses and a grey jacket. I watched him inconspicuously as he walked toward the middle section of seats and sat his bag down next to an other boy with slightly girly features and wide eyes. He greeted him casually with a smile. A straight, white-toothed smile that turned his eyes up, barely open at all. I found my face heating up and had to look away, my heart pounding in my chest for reasons I can't quite explain.

Kim Sunggyu:

"Hey, Hyung! Over here! Sit here!" I spotted Sungjong waving to me from the midsection of the room and took a seat next to him, greeting him back. "How have you been?" He nodded his head and affirmed that he'd been good since the last time we'd seen each other. I smiled back at him and looked down at my bag, before snatching it up and sifting through it for my Art App. Notebook. "Here are all of the notes from last year's Art App. If you want it, you can have it. They might help you with the written assignments at least." He took it from my hands and thanked me. I assessed the surroundings, recognizing a few people from last year's Art App. Class, also trying to acknowledge some new faces I didn't recognize. I looked behind me and saw a boy staring at me in a weird manner. I smiled awkwardly and turned back around. I nudged Sungjong in the side to get his attention. "Yah, do you know that kid in the back that's staring over here?" He looked back and shook his head. "No, why?" I shrugged and pushed it out of my mind. Mr. Kang, our Art Appreciation teacher walked in through the door and everyone started to settle down into their seats, greating him politely. He was a short, tired looking man with worry lines grooved into his face forever. His hair was greying and he wore a red sweater and grey slacks. The rest of the class passed slowly, beginning with a little bit of information about the class and what it means to study Appreciation of the Arts. He went over class guidelines as usual and read the policies animatedly, mustering yawns from various persons around the room. I layed my head down, and soon, I had fallen asleep.
