In a cafe.

[ SONGGYUNG’s POV ]

“Songgyung..”, he called me but  I was too occupied watching a newly-wed couple at a nearby park. They were gleefully taking their wedding photos.

How I wish it was me and Yongguk right there. I let out a sigh and continued watching the delightful scene until Yongguk distracted me.

“Lee~ Song~ Gyung~”, he waved his palm infront of my face. Instantly my cheeks blushed in response but I quickly regained myself. Aish..! He nearly touched my face!

“What were you looking at?”, he asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Nothing”

Yongguk suddenly shifted his eyes to the other side of world behind the wide mirror of the cafe and his eyes were exploring everywhere until they locked onto something. He then turned to me with the smirk.

Andwae..! I know that smirk!

“Now what?”, I covered my anxious feeling while finishing my favourite americano.

Then an unexpected sentence he spoke;

“Songgyung-ah! Let’s get married too!”

“PFFTTTTTTT!!!!”, I accidentally spurted out the drink and showered him right on the face. Oops!

“Aigoo..!”, he pulled out some tissues and wiped his drenched face. Still that playful smile of his didn’t leave.

“Y-yah! W-what at kind j-joke was that?!”. Aish what’s with me stuttering!

“Ah.. so you are rejecting me..”, his voice went low as he puffed his left cheek.

“Yah! Bang Yongguk! Don’t you think it’s too early for us to get married? I’m only 19! At least wait when I’m 25 year-OMO!!", I let out a gasp but instantly clasped my mouth before an unplanned love confession of mine went further. Crap.

Argh! Stupid stupid stupid Songgyung! You shouldn’t have said that!!

“...? S-Songgyung-ah.. What did you say..?”, he spoke after a brief silent. It was obvious that he was taken aback and he had this did-I-heard-wrong face. He must’ve too shocked since all this time I’ve never accept his love confessions due to my lack passion in love. So it was too odd for him to hear my confession although it was indirect.

I was never interested in love before and I thought that it is not necessary to experience one.  So I rejected his every confessions YET he didn’t give up. Until now he still cared for me as a friend and joking around as if nothing happened but I would be lying if I didn’t see any hint of affection in his eyes.

However I wondered why wouldn’t I fall for him? He is kind, caring, bright and a fun person to be with. Not to mention drop dead fine-looking one. There was nothing wrong with him but why ? Then I figured out that actually there was nothing right with my doing of avoiding the thing called LOVE. In the end I came to a thought, There’s nothing to be afraid of. If he loves me, why can’t I love him back?

And I did. To my surprise, I fall for him pretty hard.

But I was too shy to admit it.

“Err, don’t get the wrong idea! What I tried to imply was people need to finish their study first! It’s not really a proper decision for young people like us to get married this early..! Don’t take it in the wrong way! I didn’t said that I wanted to m-marry you!”, I emphasized the word ‘like’ to cover it up although my face was already as red as a tomato.

I waited for his reaction but he just casually blinked his eyes. He then extended his ten fingers in front of his face while folding them one by one until four fingers left. I sat there puzzled while watching him. But soon my heart did a flip when he suddenly broke into a smile of pure happiness.

“6 more years until you are 25! That’s it! I’ll wait for you until then! Exactly at 31^st of October 2018, I’ll propose you, Lee Songgyung! You have my promise!”, wow I felt butterflies fluttering inside me.

“Yah..! What promise are you talking about?!", I refused to look into his eyes because I was too shy to do so.

“A promise to make you forever mine.. Songgyung-ah, I’ve waited long for you to answer a ‘yes’ before but I didn’t expect you to ask me to wait for you although you denied it just now. Oh well, at least you did”, a genuine smile of his emitted his sincerity at the same time made me feel like giving in already.

“Yongguk, actually I-“

“It’s okay, Songgyung-ah! You have 6 more years to practice expressing the words before you said it officially on our wedding day! Hehe..”

“Yah! Bang Yongguk!”, I kicked his leg under the table. Aish this guy!

“Ouch! Don’t be too violent towards your future husband!”, still that grin annoyed me.

“Shut up!”

The edges of my lips tugged upward forming a smile before I knew it. The guy infront of me also smiled along and another round of butterflies fluttering took place inside of me.

Make sure you keep your words, Bang Yongguk.

"Ew Yongguk, you smell like americano!"
