Chapter 4:

Baekhyun's POV

 

Look at this stuff,

Isn't it neat?

Wouldn't you think my collections complete?

Wouldn't you think I'm the girl? 

The girl who has everything?

It's her! My princess!

"Baekhyun-ssi" Tiffany said while waving her hand in front of my face.

 

"What?" I said, annoyed at her gesture.

 

"Uhm... Nothing. I'm sorry about that." she said and then she started walking away from me.

 

Argh! I didn't mean to be annoyed at her.

 

It was just my imagination huh? Her voice. It sounds so warm.

 

My little mermaid, when will I find you?

 

"Oh right. Before we end the class, I'd like to ask for nominees for the school play. I'll choose two from the nominees. Who would like to nominate someone?"

 

Tiffany raised her hand. "I'd like to nominate Jessica-ssi."

 

Jessica immediately stood up. "What?!? Why me?!?"

 

"Anyone who wants to argue about that?" the teacher asked, ignoring Jessica.

 

No one raised their hand. The teacher grinned. "So it's decided. Jessica-ssi will have the role."

 

"WHAT?!?", she yelled.

 

"Please sit down Jessica-ssi. Or else I'll give you an F for your grade."

 

Jessica could not do anything but sit down. She pouted and puffed her cheeks.

 

"Cute." I whispered.

 

She glared at me.

 

Woah. She heard that?

 

"So, let's move on. Any nominees from the boys?"

 

I saw D.O raise his hand. He stood up and said, "I nominate Suho-hyung."

 

The teacher nodded and said, "Anyone who wants to argue about that?"

 

And then I saw Ryeowook raise his hand. "Well, I'd like to nominate Baekhyun-ssi."

 

"Why me?!?"

 

"Please sit down Baekhyun-ssi."

 

I sat down. Argh. I embarrassed myself in front of the class.

 

"Let's have Jessica-ssi pick her partner."

 

"W-What?"

 

"Please pick between Suho and Baekhyun."

 

"Uhmm." She pointed at Suho.

 

WTH? I'm being rejected again!

 

"Okay. It's decided. We'll have Jessica and Suho as the main characters."

 

I saw Taeyeon raise her hand.

 

"May I ask a question?" she said.

 

"Of course."

 

"Uhm. What play are we going to do?"

 

"Oh yeah. I forgot. It's The Little Mermaid." The teacher answered.

 

"Wow!" all the girls squealed.

 

"I'd like to be in charge of Jessica's hair and make-up!" Seohyun said.

 

"And I'd like to be in charge of her costume." Luna said.

 

The girls flocked around Jessica. I can tell that she's annoyed. I looked around and I saw Taeyeon, still sitting at her chair. What's wrong with her? Is she sick?

 

I went to her.

 

"Taeyeon-ssi. Is something wrong?"

 

"Huh? Oh.. Nothing. Nothing's wrong."

 

"Then go over there. You're a girl right?" I joked.

 

"Yeah. Maybe I should."

 

She stood up and began walking towards the group of girls. Half-way through, she collapsed.

 

I ran to her direction. I touched her forehead and it was hot.I carried her and rushed to the clinic. When I opened the door, I saw the nurse.

 

"Nurse! She has a fever!" 

 

"Okay. Calm down Baekhyun-ssi."

 

I put Taeyeon on one of the beds. The nurse gave her a medicine.

 

I watched her sleep. She's beautiful and cute.

 

I wonder why she transeferred to SM Academy.

 

I got up and walked to our classroom.

 

The girls are still in a riot, talking about the play, while the girls are having their own chat.

 

I went to the guys.

 

 

"You're so lucky Suho. She picked you, and she's pretty." I heard Kyuhyun say.

 

"It's not like I want to." Suho said. He looked at Jessica and incidentally, Jessica looked at him too. She smiled and bowed her head. He did the same.

 

I felt my chest hurt. And then it was gone. Maybe it was just my imagination.

I went to the clinic and there I saw Taeyeon, sitting at the bed. 

 

"Are you fine now?" I asked.

 

"Yes. Thank you, Baekhyun-ssi."

 

"School's over now. Here's your bag. I'll walk you home."

 

"You don't need to do that Baekhyun-ssi."

 

"No, it's my responsibility, since I'm your guide. And didn't I tell you to stop with the honorifics?"

 

"Ah.. Oh yes."

 

We started walking to her house.

 

We arrived at her home 10 minutes later. It was spacious yet it was eerily quiet.

 

"Baekhyun, would you like some tea?"

 

"Oh.. No thanks. I have to go home anyways." 

 

 

"I insist. Think of it as a thank-you gift for the tour." She smiled at me.

 

I felt my heart beat faster.

 

"Okay."

 

"Please sit down on one of the couch."

 

I sat down and I saw a picture frame on the table near the couch.

 

I saw Taeyeon and a woman on the picture.

 

Taeyeon arrived and she handed me a cup of tea. I drank it, and it was delicious.

 

"Hey Taeyeon, who is she?" I pointed at the woman beside her on the picture.

 

She became quiet for a second.

 

"T-That's my mom."

 

"Where is she?"

 

Awkward Silence

 

"I'm sorry you don't have to answe----"

 

"She left me a year ago."

 

Tears are starting to build in her eyes.

 

I don't know why, but I have the sudden urge to hug her. And I followed my instinct, I hugged her

 

"Don't cry. I'm here for you."
