"Where's Mama and Papa?"

"They're not here anymore sweetie."

"But it's Christmas! They have to give me my present!"

"Sweetie, they-"

I rushed outside the house and stood bare-feet in the deep snow. I covered my ears with my hands and shook my hands while shouting "NO NO NO." I was extremely stubborn and didn't want to accept it. Mama and Papa weren't here. And Christmas was the time where they would always give me a present, lying and saying it was from Santa. I puffed out some air from my lungs and watched as the little cloud faded into blackness. I looked around me and saw bright lights coming from windows, trees, bushes, poles. I heard the hearty laughter coming from each house and assumed those children were having the time of their lives. How fun. How sweet. I wouldn't forgive them.

"YooMi...come back inside it's cold..."

I heard the crunching sound of crisp snow slowly crawling towards me. On impulse, I ran away. I ran to the big Christmas tree downtown and hid under a bench. It was already past midnight and I could still hear the cries of laughter and smiles around the big tree. I envied them, the little kids. I envied them so much. It wasn't fair.

At each passing hour my vision became foggier and my eyelids drooped continuously. My tiny fingers felt nothing as they felt around my jacket, trying to find my pockets. My eyes were finally beginning to close. A silhouette of pretty faced boy peeked out from under the bench to look at me. I couldn't see his face clearly but I felt something warm being put over me. And at last I finally drifted off into the world of unknown dreams.

I awoke minutes late and found myself in a living room right next to a fire place. I blinked and scrambled up from the couch. The pretty faced boy was there, smiling at me, handing me a cup of warm hot cocoa. "Merry Christmas!"

"W-what? Where am I? Who are you?" I stammered.

"Hi! I'm Lee Taemin. My mama said you almost died, but we brought you here. And you woke up and you're alive. Your mama is waiting for you so I think you better go."

The caretaker rushed into the room, tears on her face. She started asking me questions like if I was okay or why I did something so stupid. I felt tears surrounding the rim of my eyes.

"Sorry." My voice was barely audible. She smiled gently and started walking me back home. I turned back at Taemin, who was smiling whole-heartedly at my reunion. He waved goodbye and turned around towards the kitchen.

"Bye bye T-taemin." I choked out before the door closed. I smiled too, though it was a soft barely noticeable smile. I beckoned the caretaker to lean over and I gave her a kiss on the cheek.
