Learning a Lesson

His Guardian

Despite her late night adventures, Dara was up and at the office before the CEO himself arrived. She was at his office, hot coffee in hand along with fake files like a good little secretary. The one thing she hated about living so far was she couldn't be around him when he was at home. He would be most susceptible to an attack at his home, where he was sure to have his guard down. She made a mental note to go over some security options for his home. And even if he didn't approve, she had ways of getting the systems hooked up without his knowledge.

When Jiyong arrived in his fresh crisp suit, Dara couldn't help but smile. He wore a confident expression and she was looking forward to watching that fall when he found that the information she gave him exactly 24 hours ago was missing.

"Good morning, Mr. Kwon." she said politely as she handed him his coffee.

"Good morning," he replied, eyeing her carefully as though he knew she was up to something.

Dara followed Jiyong into his office, watching as he walked with long strides to his desk.

He sat in his chair, oblivious to the anticipating grin on Dara's lips. Yes, she was looking forward to it. It would make her day for sure.

"Have you gone over the information I gave you yesterday, Mr. Kwon?" she asked, tilting her head slightly to the side.

"I was planning on going over it right now, actually." Jiyong adjusted his jacket as he lifted the papers from his desk, revealing the empty spot where the binder would have been had Dara not taken it. He stared at the desk for a moment, frozen.

"Is there a problem, Mr. Kwon?" Dara asked innocently.

Jiyong glanced up at her, a glimpse of panic rushing through him. "Uhm.. No. No, there's no problem." he assured her as he set the papers back down and opened one of three drawers his desk contained. Dara could have sworn she heard a ".." from his mouth.

"Well, I'll go create your schedule for the week," she said sweetly, only getting a "Yea, sure." from Jiyong as a response.

Dara was quite proud of herself. Who knew she was such a good actress?

Dara was at her desk, typing away. She had already composed Jiyong's schedule for the next two weeks, which consisted of multiple meetings and whatnot. She was currently going over some information of her own. Information on Jiyong specifically. She had gone over his background before she started the job of course. She knew almost everything there was to know. It was kind of pathetic how much she knew about him. She was now going over the relationships he had himself. She had only gone into the relationships the company and his father had with others. Their meeting with the Chihuahua yesterday had brought up a good point.

Halfway through, she heard heavy footsteps approaching. She glanced up, finding Jiyong storming toward her from his office. She couldn't contain the smirk that came to her lips.

"Where is it?" he asked angrily. She could only imagine from his appearance how his office looked.

"Where is what, Mr. Kwon?"

"The damn lists! Where is it!?"

"Now Mr. Kwon, why would you assume that I have it?"

"I know it was you, Dara."

"I would have had to break in to get those papers, Mr. Kwon. And according to you, your office is impenetrable."

She knew she had gotten him then. His eye twitched and his lips pressed down in hard line.

"I... I was wrong..." he muttered.

Dara tilted her head to the side and frowned slightly. "I'm sorry?"

"I was wrong, dammit!"

And just like that, Dara had broken the almighty Kwon Jiyong. She smirked as she unlocked on of the drawers in her desk. She reached in and presented Jiyong with the 'missing' binder. Jiyong looked away as he took the binder from her hands. He didn't even give her a thank you before he stormed back to his office and slammed the door behind him. "Men."

Jiyong refused to speak to Dara for the rest of the day. Instead of calling her into his office, he'd make the receptionist pass notes back and forth between them. He was behaving like a complete child. But Dara couldn't help but find it just a little bit amusing. Back when she was a child, she didn't have this sort of thing. She didn't pass notes in class or giggle and gossip. No. People threw notes at her that said nasty things about her and her father and giggled and gossiped about her and her family. Behaving like this, while it was completely unprofessional and immature, was kind of... refreshing.

The day came to an end fairly quickly. Most of the meetings had been held inside the building, so there was no reason for Dara to go elsewhere. By about seven, the building was empty except for the security, herself, and Jiyong. She cleaned up her area, locking her drawers and shutting down her computer before making her way to his office to see why he was still here so late. Usually, he was the first to leave after his day was over. She hadn't expected him to be here so late.

She knocked lightly on the door before entering, finding the CEO hunched over the binder, reading over it intently. Dara was glad that he was finally looking it over, hoping it would give him a wake up call to the actual danger he was in. The world he was living in wasn't as black and white as he thought it was. The people he thought he could trust are probably plotting against him. She learned through her own family business that the bigger you get, the more people want to knock you down. Human beings are selfish and envious of each other. Seeing others happy with things they don't have themselves infuriates them. They want what they have and they will go through any lengths they have to to obtain it.

"Are you alright?" she asked softly.

Jiyong looked up from the binder, his eyes tired. He sighed and leaned back in his chair. "I never knew... I wasn't aware that things were this intense." he said honestly. Dara pursed her lips and nodded, hesitating before walking over to him. "That's just the way the world works. Someone of your stature.. you can have thousands of people who placed a target on your back. Some only want to harm the business. Some want to hurt you. When you live in a world like this.. you can never be careful." Jiyong could only nod and look up to her.

"You.. you're really here to protect me, right?" he asked cautiously, to which Dara could only chuckle.

"Of course. I don't get paid to assisinate or spy. Well.. not anymore, anyway." she teased, not exactly lying, though. Jiyong's eyes widened and his mouth opened, which only made Dara laugh. Jiyong knew nothing about Dara and her past. It was one of the agreements. She had too many demons in her past, too many targets on her own back even after all these years. He didn't need to concern himself with her background. She just needed to concern herself with his.

"Come on. It's late. I'll take you home." Dara said as she reached over and closed the binder. Jiyong nodded and let out a soft sigh as he stood from his chair. "Shouldn't I be the one telling that to you?" The bodyguard could only grin. "I suppose if I were any other girl. But you and I both know I'm far from that." Jiyong chuckled as he grabbed his belongings from his desk. "Isn't that the truth.."
