The First Night

Two Moons, One Destiny

AN: After reading a few fics like this, I noticed that “you” never ends up with any of my biases and I didn’t really want to do the same to you guys. Instead of picking one and having the romantic scenes fitted into the main body of story, I decided to have chapters like this one, where you can skip to your bias or read all the options ^^ Each time one of these chapters pops up, it’ll follow on from the previous one, and hopefully build up story and the relationship between “you” and your bias~  I figured it was fairer, so I hope you like it~

After visiting the physician Jinki, a warm bespectacled man, as Taeyeon suggested, you had washed up, eaten alone in a small parlour watching people come and go. Eventually you headed off to the room Taeyeon had shown you previously. It was larger than your own bedroom back home, and kind of bare, with white walls and a plain desk accompanied by a matching bookcase. Before you knew it, you were enveloped by the slightly-too-large pyjamas you had been given and snuggled under the covers, more than ready just to sleep and put an end to the day.

Joonmyun:

You were just about to set your head against the pillow when there was a knock at the door. Trying not to be annoyed, you sat back up and straightened your hair out.

“It’s open.” You called, and waited for either Yunho or Jinki to step through the door and check on how you were feeling. You were surprised; however, to see one of the other people from the meeting in the hall enter with a small tray balanced in his hands.

“Hey.” He breathed, smiling softly. “I brought you some tea.”

“O-Oh, thank you!” You scrabbled to clear a large enough space on your bedside table for him to set it down, pushing the lamp to one side. “Err, just here’s fine. Thank you.”

His smile never faltered as he handed you the cup, quietly warning you that it was hot and to be careful. Nor did it disappear as he made to leave the room.

“Wait!” You called as his hand found the door handle. His small face seemed to glow as he turned back to you. “This really is lovely, thank you…”
Your voice trailed off, waiting for him to offer his name.

“Joonmyun, but don’t mention it. I just hope you feel a little better tomorrow. Sleep well, Mihyun.”

And with that, he disappeared through the door, closing it quietly as you sipped at the perfectly brewed tea.

Baekhyun:

Oddly restless, you paced back and forth. At first you had been trying to make sense of everything that happened that day, but eventually it dissolved into mindless wandering – anything to help you get to sleep. Tearing you from your thoughts, there was a gentle knock and chiming voice at the door.

“Knock knock!” It called, muffled by the wooden door between the two of you. Stopping immediately, you turned and opened it, stepping back slightly to let the waiting boy into your room. He was slim and slight, with small eyes, soft downy hair and an infectious smile.

You introduced yourselves, unusually light hearted and casual considering the serious situation you were in. His name was Baekhyun, and he had come to see how you were and finally meet you one-on-one. You didn’t really want to talk, but you found yourself chatting with him and the time flew by.

“You really should get some rest.” He mused, peering over your shoulder to inspect the ever-darkening sky outside the window. It was pretty late, you thought to yourself, and your shoulders were sagging with the effort of keeping them up.

“Get to sleep; tomorrow’s going to be a busy day.” He told you, with a hint of finality to his voice. You nodded sleepily and saw him to the door, bidding each other good night before you climbed into bed and fell into a deep, well needed sleep.

Chanyeol:

“Just don’t upset her even more, okay?” Kris told Chanyeol sternly after he announced he was going up to see how you were. He understood that Kris was concerned, but still couldn’t help but be a little insulted. Instead of gracing his elder with a reply, he haughtily shook his head and bounced up the stairs.

When he reached your door, he knocked lightly against it and called out.
“Mihyun, I’m Chanyeol, mind if I come in for a sec?”

You gave no reply.
Humming to himself, he tried again.

“Sorry, I’ll go away in a second - promise.”

Again, you gave no reply. Against his better judgement (and probably Kris’ advice too) he knocked lightly once more and pushed the door open.

He was shocked, and slightly relieved, to find you were asleep rather than simply ignoring him – or worse gone. Giggling to himself, he padded into your room and up to your bedside. When he was level with your face, he crouched down and whispered to you.

“Hello Song Mihyun. I’m Park Chanyeol…” He laughed quietly at himself, tapping his bent knee slightly. “If Kris asks, I didn’t upset you, okay?”

He made a thumbs up at you, but when unseen by your sleeping eyes.

“Okay! Oh, and sweet dreams.” He added before straightening out and quietly leaving, letting you get on with your dreaming, undisturbed.

Kyungsoo:

You were so tired that after visiting the bathroom, you didn’t even shut your bedroom door before crawling into bed and falling immediately to sleep.

Kyungsoo was merely passing when he noticed that the wooden door stood ajar, and light from the bright hallway was spilling into the darkness. Unable to help himself, he pushed the door wider and stuck his head through the gap.

“Mihyun?” He chanced, whispering loudly. You didn’t reply, only shuffling slightly under the cosy bed covers. With a heavy sigh, you rolled so you were facing away from the door.

“Sorry… I know you must be pretty upset.” He hummed, taking a step into the room. “I would be too.”

It was barely bright enough to see, but he could just about make out the outlines of furniture. Even so, he still stepped carefully.

“And sorry about Jongin. He takes a bit of getting used to but he’s a nice guy really… I’ll tell him to take it easy on you.” He hummed slightly, resting his body on the edge of the desk, hands crossed awkwardly in front of him.

He sighed heavily shifting his weight.
“So, I heard you met Zitao and Kris too. You must have had an interesting day, huh?” Chuckling softly through his nose, he waited for you to say something. Instead of words, however, his ears were met by a gentle snore – you had been fast asleep the whole time.

“Asleep. Figures.” He laughed quietly, not even half as annoyed as his tone suggested. Instead, he was a little relieved. You needed rest, he shouldn’t have been disturbing you.

Sure to leave the door open a crack, he headed back out and down the long corridor, leaving you none the wiser.

Jongin:

Grumbling slightly to himself, Jongin hurried down the stairs and into one of lounge rooms he knew for a fact would be full of people. His suspicions were correct when he found most of the seats taken and a bubble of conversation happily flowing over the scene. He, however wasn’t so happy.

“Sorry to interrupt, but has anyone seen my jacket?” Having stolen the spotlight, he figured he’d best elaborate. “The black one, you know, with the rings on it.”

“You gave it to Mihyun.” Kyungsoo reminded him quietly. Of course he did. “Why?”

Jongin shrugged before replying. “Just wanna go out without getting cold. Thanks.”
When he reached up to click his fingers and dematerialise, Yixing’s gentle voice interrupted him.

“Can’t it wait? She needs her rest.” Of course, he would worry too much about that – it was just what Yixing did. Shaking his head, Jongin continued with his previous action, slightly put-off by the stern “Jongin!” called firmly in Kris’ voice.

When he rematerialised, he had been so disturbed that, rather than appearing politely outside of your room, he had magically popped up at the foot of your bed. Fortunately for him, you were fast asleep.

Carefully investigating, he found the jacket he had been looking for, imprinted dark against the white of the bedspread. Cold, you had spread it on top of the covers, over your midriff. Just like the night before, it had not only kept you warm, but lulled you off to sleep with its reassuring scent.

Sensing your rapidly built attachment to the garment, Jongin sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

“Whatever, it’s not like it’s the only one I own.”

And with that, he clicked his fingers once more, disappearing and rather happy that he had, at least in his own way, made up for his absence in the previous day’s crisis.

Sehun:

You were just contemplating going in search of a glass of water when a musical knock at the door disturbed your thoughts.

“Come in!” You called, subconsciously pulling the blanket up to your shoulders. Without hesitation, the door opened and in stepped a boy, not much older than yourself, with small pouting lips and sparkling eyes.

“Hey.” He said, slightly short-tongued. How endearing, you thought. “I er… I brought you this.” He added, holding out a tumbler of water towards you. You accepted it and took a slow sip, enjoying the icy chill as it refreshed your insides.

“Thank you…?” You trailed off in invitation for his name, smiling up at him – even though he had sat at the foot of your bed, you could feel your neck craning slightly.

“Sehun.” He smiled, grin only widening when you executed a semi-bow in your sat position. After a while, you began talking, just idle chatter and small talk before the mood suddenly changed.

“You’ll be okay. Even if you’re scared now, I know it’ll all work out.” Out of the blue, seemingly random words slipped off his tongue, solemn and slightly sad. Sensing your confusion, he flashed his rosy tightlipped smile at you.
“In the beginning, I was like you. Totally alone.” He hummed, still smiling.

You stared, hanging onto his every word.

“I was kinda scared too. But everyone here, the other eleven guys especially… They took care of me.” He grinned, bright and cheery as he had been before. “Now I’m not scared, because I know I can rely on them. Maybe not now, but one day you’ll be able to rely on us Mihyun. Promise.”

Your mouth hung open as you made sense of what he said, blinking heavily as he bade you goodnight and left with a hearty wave of his hand. By the time you woke up, you could barely remember a word he’d said, but you were more than certain you liked him.

Minseok:

“Ugh!” You grumbled, throwing back the covers. On top of everything you had been through, you couldn’t sleep.  Restless and hot and tense and altogether uncomfortable, you got up and started pacing. Surely, after the busiest most inane few days your life, you deserved a little sleep? Clearly not.

“This isn’t fair.” You moaned, wandering around your room again and again. There wasn’t even a window you could open to get a breath of fresh air, you were stuck in the stressful stuffiness that was keeping you awake.

“Are you okay in there?” A gentle voice on the other side of your door called, dragging you out of your irritated pacing. With a sigh and quick pat down of your hair and clothes, you opened the door, trying your best to look contained and, well, normal.

“Hi, erm, yeah.” You winced at how awkward you sounded, but smiled at the full faced stranger nonetheless. “Yeah I’m okay thanks, nothing to worry about.”

The man folded his arms and hummed, sharp eyes filled with disbelief.  On second glance, he was quite short in stature, but sturdy with a full face and piercing features.

“That’s surprising. I wouldn’t be okay if I were in your shoes.” He said, eyes trained on you. His frankness was a little shocking, but you supposed he had a point. You, however, were already feeling better than you had expected.

“I’m fine, really. I’m dealing with it.” You chuckled a little and scratched the back of your head. Your face was pink, you could feel the heat rising in your cheeks, but it was nothing to do with embarrassment – you were just too hot and stuffy.

“You seem flustered, but I’ll leave you to it. It’s nice to finally meet you, Mihyun, I’m Minseok by the way.” He told you, turning to leave. Smiling weakly, you stepped towards him, ready to close the door when he had finally left.

“Just a little warm,” You explained, waiting for him to walk away. “And it’s nice to meet you too. Good night.”

He nodded and headed down the corridor without another word, but when you shut the door behind him, you were sure the temperature had dropped by a few degrees.

Luhan:

It had been a long, painful day and you couldn’t help but let your mind wander. In minutes, you were openly crying, shuddering with sobs that came from the gut.

“Don’t cry.”

Gasping, you looked around. You were sure you’d heard a gentle voice, a man’s voice call out to you but there was no one to be seen. Sure you were imagining things; you rubbed your head slightly and dried your eyes, too freaked out for tears now.

“See, don’t you feel better now you’ve stopped?”

It was the voice again. Gulping, you scanned the room with your eyes but you were definitely alone. There wasn’t another soul in sight.

“Wh-Who’s there?” You called, trying your hardest to be brave. It wasn’t working well, but at least you weren’t crying any more.

“Mihyun, it’s okay. Look up a little.”

Doing as you were told, you raised your chin to stare into the pretty mirror that sat on the wall. Instead of your reflection, however, a youthful looking man was staring back at you.

Too confused to scream, your jaw dropped.

“I’m Luhan.” He said quietly, looking sheepish. You blinked heavily at him, noting that all you could see beyond his face was blackness. “I just wanted to see you. Jongin told me you were here.”

Snapping to your senses, you blinked again. He knew Jongin too? That meant that he wasn’t dangerous…. Right?

“I’m sorry, I don’t understand – Who are you?” You began, rapidly gaining confidence. He smiled back at you sadly, sharp nose softened by twinkling eyes and feathered blonde hair.

“I’m Luhan.” He reiterated before sighing. “I have to go, but I’m glad I could meet you.”

He had to go? Already? You weren’t ready to accept that and leapt to your feet, questions pouring from your mouth.

“Wait! Who are you? Where are you? How are you doing this? How do you know who I– ” You stopped short when you realised that you were shouting questions pointlessly at your own reflection.

Dejectedly sighing, your shoulders dropped. He was gone and you were all alone, none the wiser. Accepting the fact, you were defeated as you climbed into bed, leaving the day and all of its mind boggling events behind.

Yifan:

Kris was just heading up the staircase that lead to the floor his bedroom was on when he remembered what Taeyeon had said. You’d be staying in a bedroom on the second floor, just a corridor away from the infirmary – in case of emergency.
Pausing, he decided to turn back and check on how you were coping with the influx of information.

Seconds later, his brisk step had lead him to your door. Shortly, he knocked and waited for a reply. None came, so he rapped his knuckles again. Jumping to conclusions, he pushed the door open, fearing that you’d run away. Fortunately however, you were laid in bed, fast asleep.

“Hmph. Should have guessed.” He breathed, striding across the room to close the gaping window. It was freezing in the small room, and he didn’t want you to catch cold on top of everything else.

Shaking his head, he pulled your blanket up higher – it had slipped to your waist and he could see you shivering slightly as you slept. He also switched off your lamp and straightened out the furniture at the end of the bed before silently heading out.
With one last, concerned look at your sleeping face, he closed the door behind himself, leaning against it slightly.

“I’m sorry, Mihyun.”
The melancholy words were the last to leave his lips that night, choosing to slip away to bed before anyone had the chance to bother him.

Yixing:

It had taken you over an hour to fall asleep, but you were thankful when you finally slipped off into dreams. However, it meant that you missed your midnight caller.

Overly concerned and quietly worrying, Yixing excused himself from the company of Kris and Joonmyun and made his way up one of the curved staircases in the hall that lead to where you were sleeping. The building was quiet, most people had gone to bed by now, and that was his excuse for leaving early, but in reality he was more concerned about checking on you and how you were doing.

Gentle, he tapped on your door. Rather than a reply, he heard you move around, and waited for you to open the door to him.
You didn’t.
He knocked again, holding his breath as he waited. Along with the rustling, he heard your voice but he couldn’t make a word.

Regardless of if it was an invitation or not, he opened the door and stepped in, convinced that something awful was happening, or had happened to you.

He couldn’t say he was happy, but he was relieved to find that you were stuck in the throes of a nightmare, murmuring and restlessly tossing under the comforter. It wasn’t good, but it could have been far worse.

“You poor thing.” He breathed, stepping to your bedside. He extended a slender hand and laid his palm against your forehead – as he expected, you had a raging fever. With little effort, a cloud of white formed around his hand, soothing and cooling your temperature away.
Within seconds, you had settled down and were sleeping peacefully, perfectly healthy.

Satisfied that you were okay, he left you in peace. When you awoke, though clueless of the night’s events, you were sure something must have happened to make you feel so refreshed and healthy.

Jongdae:

His first thought was that you needed rest and that really, it would be selfish to disturb you, but then again, Jongdae thought, it would be just as rude not to introduce himself properly. He had been debating whether or not he should in fact go and make your acquaintance more formally when Joonmyun dropped into the space beside him on the sofa.

“Penny for your thoughts?” He asked, eyebrow cocked slightly.

A soft chuckle left Jongdae’s lips and his smile pushed out his cheekbones as he looked at his elder.

“Nothing really.” He shrugged, a little reluctant to share what was on his mind. But that’s all it was, nothing. Jongdae did a lot of thinking, in fact, he spent almost all of his time simply sitting with his thoughts, and plenty of them were more important than whether or not to say hello to you. But then again, just because some thoughts made bigger impacts, that didn’t mean that the little things didn’t mean anything at all.

Making up his mind, he sat up, waving goodnight to the smaller man still sat on the chair. Before he knew it, he was outside of your door feeling sheepish and rather regretting his decision.

Resignedly, he knocked on the door and sighed through his nose. When met by no reply, he knocked again and waited, vaguely aware of the people coming and going behind his back.

“Just go in, you’ve knocked enough.” Chanyeol shrugged the third time he plodded past Jongdae, leaving with an expecting glance that left Jongdae with no choice to comply.

Pushing the door open, his shoulders dropped when he realised the reason you didn’t reply. You were already in bed – gently snoring and oblivious to world – but rather than disappointed, he was amused.

“Guess I worried about nothing, huh?” He smiled, leaning on the door frame. “See you in the morning Mihyun.”

Zitao:

After settling down in bed, you had been stricken with an undeniable, totally unsettling, urge. Even though you had no idea where the bathroom was, and you had only just gotten comfy – there was no questioning it. You needed to pee.

And so, you found yourself reluctantly crawling from beneath the cover, stuffing your feet into a pair of slippers you found in the closet, and sprinting as quickly as you could to the nearest bathroom.
You didn’t get very far though – it wasn’t long before you were stopped in your tracks as you ran headfirst into a sturdy torso.

“O-oof!” You huffed as you stepped back while rubbing at your face and blinking. “Sorry, I was rushing and –”

“Don’t mention it, but we really must stop bumping into each other like this.” It was Zitao, and his lazy smirk sat on his face, that is, until he read your impatient expression.

“You aren’t going to throw up again are you?” He asked, concern genuine on his pale face. You shook your head quickly.

“No, that was a one off. Promise.”  You told him a little impatiently, though you tried not to let it show. Sensing your unease, his eyebrow raised but he shrugged it off.

“If you’re sure.”

You nodded and scurried off on your way, as he wandered off in the other direction.
When you returned back to your room, Zitao was stood there leaning against the door frame.

“As it so happens, we’re neighbours.” He smirked before you could even open your mouth. “If you think you are going to be sick again, or if you require anything, don’t hesitate to ask. After all, we are here to help you.”

He chuckled softly before slowly turning away and into his own room, which looked much the same as yours on the inside.
A little bemused, you blinked away your confusion and crawled back into bed, satisfied that this time you’d be able to get to sleep without needing anything else.
