Year 2018


“I think I want to be married by the time I’m 25…”

Yamada remembered that phrase and just lingered through his mind along with the never ending ideas on how to let his feelings out to ask for Rio’s hand in marriage. He thought for a while with a restless nod before even noting down the things he wanted to say to his girlfriend.


“What are you doing?” Yamada looked up and saw the two figures of his best friends, partly smiling within his presence. Because of this, Yamada immediately hid the piece of paper on his right hand, trying his best not to let the two boys see.

However, to his dismay, Chinen and Yuto already saw the piece of paper even before Yamada had the chance to hide it from them.

“You’re gonna propose to Rio-chan? Uwahhh~ That’s good news…” Chinen declared then took the nearest seat on Yamada’s left, and then Yuto followed the gesture and sat on his right.

“Please don’t tell anyone yet… I’m planning to tell Johnny-san soon.” Yamada pleaded his two best friend and looked at the piece of paper once again… “I want to get married”
 

“Wahhh.. Yama-chan, I never imagined you being very cheesy…” Yuto mocked then patted his bestfriend’s shoulder… “So, how are you gonna propose?”

 

By this question, Yamada just sighed in despair and looked down. He indeed has lots of ideas on what to say to Rio. However, those ideas are easy to think of, but quite difficult to put into actions. Besides, proposing to someone is not the easiest thing to do.

*Proposal 1 = Suddenly propose on a date…”
 

Ryosuke looked at Rio nervously as they walk side by side each other along with the romantic street lights surrounding them.
Yamada planned to propose under the passionate scene of the moonlight along with the scheduled firework display that night. By then, he just can’t help but to think of how perfectly dressed Rio is, faultless for his marriage proposal.

Stealing multiple glances at Rio, Yamada found himself always turning away whenever their eyes met which is enough to make Rio worried on how her boyfriend is acting.
 

“Yama-chan… Are you okay? Is something bothering you?” she asked with a worried tone. Yamada on the other hand just gulped on where he’s standing and just paused for the most awaited fireworks to be displayed which he thought will be the best time to tell her his feelings.
 

“I’m fine… The firework display will start soon. Why don’t we just sit here?” Ryosuke replied with an assuring voice then guided Rio to the nearest bench. Yamada then peeked at his pocket to see if the ring is still there with the restless feelings of worry and fright. “Yosh… This is it!!” he whispered to himself, trying his best not to be noticed by Rio.
 

A few minutes later, the fireworks display started which is enough to make the people around them gasp with amazement. Yamada saw few children clapping with each other after seeing the beautiful scene. By this, Ryosuke felt the urge to pull out the ring on his right pocket and present it to Rio along with the words of thoughtfulness he just practiced multiple times before their date.
 

“Rio~” he faced Rio who is still busy enjoying the scene of the wonderful colours in the sky… “Will you –“

 

“Misaki-chan… WILL YOU MARRY ME?”

Suddenly, another voice on a microphone put over Yamada’s own vocals.

“Ehh?” he said in disbelief then turned to the voice he just heard.

Coincidentally, another man had the same idea on proposing that night which made Yamada feel useless.

“Awww~ How sweet… he proposed to her…” Rio said while staring at the couple now hugging each other after the man’s proposal. Yamada and Rio heard the loud cheers of the people around them, congratulating the now ‘engaged’ couple.

 

“What are the chances?!!” Yamada mouthed the words of disappointment then placed the ring back to his right pocket, planning to sulk down after realising his ‘failed’ proposal.

 

RESULT = FAILED

*Proposal 2 = Proposing on a TV show…*

Ryosuke fixed his tie and checked that everything is indeed according to his plan. He smiled weakly to himself in the mirror and whispered the words of “Ganbatte…” to his own reflection.

By this, he pulled his phone and attempted to send Rio a text:

“Rio-chan… make sure you watch today’s Music Station ne?” he happily sent the message with his plan of proposing in LIVE television. The sudden thoughts of Rio just lingered through his mind, determined to get her sweet ‘YES’. He doesn’t even care how Johnny-san will react. All he wants now is to get Rio’s hand in marriage.
 

“I will… xxx” Yamada felt his phone vibrate against his hand and read the message. Rio’s text just made him blink a few times with his own nervousness lingering inside his chest. Before he knows it, a big lump over his voice box was felt.

 

“Yama-chan… We’ll be going in now…” Keito called for Yamada and guided him inside the studio.
 

When he got there, a sudden announcement from the staff crew just broke Ryosuke apart: “Minna-san… Unfortunately, we can't do a LIVE broadcast today as planned. Something wrong happened with the schedule so we’ll just going to film this show as normal…”
 

“EHHH??” Yamada said in a loud voice, enough to make the people around him look to his direction.
