A Pre-school With A Love Story

“I wonder how Sungyeol-hyung’s party went,” Sungjong said to himself as he stared spacely at a book about anatomy which he’s supposed to be reading for his thesis paper. “I wish I could have gone.”

Sungjong then let out a sigh as he thought more of how he could have greeted Sungyeol face to face instead of a handwritten letter. He even bought a little owl keychain as a present cause Sunggyu says his teacher likes that particular animal. His eyes then turn to the keychain that he bought and couldn’t help but smile thinking how it kinda looks like Sungyeol, his daydreaming was interrupted by his friends though.

“Yah,” a handsome male Sungjong’s age started. “Lee Sungjong, are you still with us?”

“Forget it Taemin,” a boyish female besides the first speaker snickered. “Sungjongie’s mind has travelled off to space and left us with this boring thesis.”

“I know a way to get him out this trance,” Taemin smirked and the boyish female raised an eyebrow at him. “Sungjong! Sunggyu’s about to cross the road alone!!”

“What?!?” Sungjong cried as he stood up from his chair. “I told him to never cross alone, oh god he might get hit, I need to save him!”

“He’s fine!” Taemin suddenly exclaimed as he grabbed Sungjong when his friend almost got out of the door of their classroom. “He’s probably at home right now waiting for you to get back like the good little brother he is.”

“What?” Sungjong said as he looked at his friends and figured they were just playing with him making him hit Taemin on the arm. “What the hell Taemin! You almost gave me a heart attack! And I can’t believe you’re in on this too Amber!”

“I’m not in on it,” Amber defended herself and raised her hands in a surrendering way. “I didn’t even know what Taemin was gonna do.”

“Besides,” Taemin added as he sat back down. “It’s your fault for spacing out.”

“I wasn’t spacing out,” Sungjong pouted as he rejoined his friends. “I was just thinking.”

“About what?” Taemin asked. “Clearly not our thesis.”

“Is it that Sungyeol dude?” Amber smirked and Sungjong turned red showing his friends they were right on target.

“Oh yeah,” Taemin chuckled. “Didn’t you say it’s his birthday today?”

“Yeah,” Sungjong sighed. “But we have a thesis to do so I’ll just greet him tomorrow.”

Taemin and Amber looked at each other and then to their friend who was back to staring at the book. It was obvious that Sungjong felt down and he won’t really cheer up unless he does what he wants and that’s to go and see Sungyeol.

“I think we’re done for the day,” Amber announced as he closed Sungjong’s book shocking the male.

“Huh?”

“We finished up to the third chapter anyways,” Taemin added as he zipped Sungjong’s bag close and gave it to the owner. “So let’s just continue this tomorrow.”

“So let’s go home now,” Amber smiled as she pulled Sungjong up.

“Yeah yeah,” Taemin agreed happily as he and Amber practically puched a confused Sungjong out the door. “We all have places to be.”

“And people to see,” Amber added and Sungjong got at once what his friends were trying to do.

“I might just catch Sungyeol-hyung,” smiled Sungjong as he turned to his friends. “See you tomorrow then”

“Bye bye Jongie~” Amber and Taemin waved simultaneously.

“Thank you~” replied Sungjong as he dashed for Sunggyu’s pre-school hoping that Sungyeol is still there.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sungjong walked with a small smile all the way towards Summer Days pre-school, excited to see his hyung. When he neared the school he saw that the lights were still on meaning that there are still people there and right outside the gate he saw Hoya getting ready to go home, and then suddenly he became nervous.
“Hoya-hyung!” Sungjong called successfully catching the older’s attention.
“Sungjongie,” Hoya smiled. “What are you doing here so late?”
“I, uh, just finished with my thesis writing for the day,” Sungjong explained awkwardly. “And the school is on my way home so uh… I thought that maybe, I should you know… come by and stuff. ”
“Sungyeol’s still inside,” Hoya laughed a bit at the younger’s nervousness. “You should go and greet him, he was looking forward to your greeting after all.”
“He was?” Sungjong said a bit happily, hopefully.
“Yeah,” Hoya smiled as he pushed the other inside the school grounds. “Now go, he’s in our classroom.”
“Thanks Hoya-hyung,” Sungjong smiled as he made his way towards the school.
Sungjong found the pre-school at night very weird. The place was supposed to be filled with loud chatting and laughter from children so seeing it this dead quiet with no chaos whatsoever is just weird to look at. He then quickly made his way towards Sunggyu’s classroom only to bump straight into Sungyeol’s tall and lean frame making him fall back a bit but once again Sungyeol proved his fast reflexes by catching Sungjong by the waist.
“Sungjongie,” Sungyeol said. “What are you doing here so late?”
“I, uh, I…” Sungjong felt the blood rise to his face at their close proximity. “I wanted to greet you happy birthday hyung.”
“Aigoo~” Sungyeol cooed as he hugged the younger making his face more red, if that was possible. “You came all the way here just to say that? I feel so special right now.”
“You’re always special to  me hyung,” Sungjong smiled and Sungyeol couldn’t help but hug him just a bit tighter for his words before letting him go cause he’s afraid he wouldn’t do it anymore.
“you’re very special to me too Sungjongie,” Sungyeol smiled as he tapped the other’s nose lightly.
“I-I got you this hyung,” Sungjong stuttered as he fumbled his bag for the keychain he bought and then gave it to Sungyeol. “I saw it while going to school today and Sunggyu told me you like owls so I quickly bought it for you.”
“Thank you,” Sungyeol smiled as he accepted the pink owl keychain and hooked it on his bag at once. “I’ll wear it every day while thinking of you.”
There was silence between them after that and Sungyeol got worried that maybe he said the wrong things but the redness of the other’s ears tells Sungyeol otherwise so he just ruffles Sungjong’s hair with a smile.
“Let’s go home now shall we?” Sungyeol offered and Sungjong nodded silently as they started walking side by side out of the school. “Neh Sungjongie?”
“Yes hyung?” Sungjong replied albeit a bit quietly.
“Can I walk you home?”
“Wha-what?” Sungjong stuttered and he swears all the blood in his body is in his head for all the blushing he has done for the past few minutes. “B-but wouldn’t that be troublesome for you?”
“Nothing’s troublesome for me if it involves you,” Sungyeol smiled and Sungjong just looked away but Sungyeol still caught the smile forming on his lips. “Besides, I couldn’t let a cutie like you walk home alone.”
“I’m not cute,” Sungjong muttered as they walked to the direction of his house.
“Are you serious?” Sungyeol cried looking shocked. “Anyone who says you’re not cute has to be blind or something!”
“Shut up hyung,” Sungjong laughed a bit. “And let’s just go home.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sungyeol, needless to say, was super duper happy right now. Not only is he walking home with Sungjong but he actually has another chance to tell the younger about his long time crush on him. He told himself this morning that if things go right today he will tell the other how he feels and things went perfectly today with his birthday party with the kids and his friends but then that overly handsome Myungsoo guy showed up instead of Sungjong which just crushed his perfect day. But then Sungjong actually went back to the school just to greet him and if that isn’t a sign for him to just confess already then Sungyeol doesn’t know what is.

The problem is that Sungyeol doesn’t know how to start saying that he likes the younger way more than a friend should.

“So how did you thesis go?” Sungyeol started as he decided to start with a casual talk.

“It went fine,” Sungjong smiled. “We’re half way done with it.”

“I hope you finish soon,” Sungyeol said. “Cause Sunggyu said he was worried for you cause you ain’t getting much sleep, and that makes me worried too.”

“I-I’m fine,” Sungjong smiled as he heard that even Sungyeol was worried for him. “Oh yeah, Myungsoo might pick up Sunggyu tomorrow again.”

“Why??” whined Sungyeol making the other laugh. “I always look forward to seeing your face at the end of everyday and now you tell me I won’t be seeing it tomorrow?”

“It’s just for tomorrow hyung,” Sungjong laughed. “Besides, Myungie’s very nice.”

“Then why does he look at me as if he’s reading my very soul??” Sungyeol shivered a bit to emphasize what he was saying.

“You’ll get used to it,” Sungjong laughed. “So how did your birthday go?”

“It was great and happy,” Sungyeol said to the other. “But now it’s just perfect.”

“Oh?” Sungjong said curiously. “Why is it just perfect now?”

“That’s cause you’re here,” Sungyeol explained making the younger stop in walking and Sungyeol followed suit as he looked at the red face that was staring at him. “You make everything perfect for me.”

“Wha-what are you saying hyung?” Sungjong stuttered cause he doesn’t know how to respond right now.

“I’m saying that you make my life perfect by just being there,” Sungyeol said as he thought that it’s now or never as he moves closer to Sungjong. “I’m saying how you can make me smile just by being beside me, how hearing your voice calms my heart but your smiling face makes it beat twice as fast.”

“I’m saying that I like you Lee Sungjong,” Sungyeol said clearly as their foreheads touched and he stopped right there waiting for the other to respond but now sound came from the other’s mouth.

For how can Sungjong speak when he placed his lips a top Sungyeol’s and he felt the older smile into the kiss making him smile to before he pulled away.

“I like you too hyung,” Sungjong smiled. “Very much.”

“This just has to be the best birthday ever!!” Sungyeol cried as he hugged the younger.

“I’m glad,” Sungjong laughed. “But can you promise me one thing hyung?”

“Anything,” Sungyeol said.

“That you won’t say anymore of those cheesy lines of yours?” Sungjong joked. “You sound like Woohyun-hyung.”

“I can’t help it Jongie,” Sungyeol said. “It’s because of my love for you that I feel all these butterflies inside and I can’t help but tell you how I feel-”

Sungyeol’s words were stopped as Sungjong kissed him again and he couldn’t help but melt into those lips as he kissed him eagerly back.

“Happy birthday Sungyeol-hyung.”
