Lesson 1 - Introducing Oneself
Do you want to learn Korean?
Lesson 1
Introducing oneself
안녕하세요! 저는 한나입니다. 저는 미국 사람입니다. 저는 학생입니다. 반갑습니다.
Hello everyone! This is Lesson 1 of learning how to speak Korean. Introducing oneself. Today I will be teaching you the basics of introducing yourself. It should be quick and easy to learn, if not don’t worry. I will explain anything and everything that you need help with if you just ask!
So first I am going to start you off with the basics. Alright? 안녕하세요. In Korean this means, Hello. So you can say this when you meet someone for the first time, you see your friends, etc.
저는-입니다. This is a sentence structure meaning “I am_____ .” You can fill in the blank with your name, nationality, and even your occupation. 저 is the polite form of saying “I”. –는 is the topic marking particle showing that 저 is the topic of the sentence. 입니다 is a present-tense sentence final ending attached to a predicate nominative. So, here you can say that is means “am.”
Indicating ones nationality, is just as easy as learning how to write your name in Korean. To indicate your nationality you just add 사람 to the end of the countries name.
(만나서) 반갑습니다. This is a polite form of saying “Nice to meet you in Korean. If you meet someone for the first time you can say this to express the meaning of “Nice to meet you.”
