While You Write

State Of Grace's Author Tips and Tricks

When I wrote one of my first fanfictions, I made a big mistake; I didn't have a plot in mind.

I had no idea whatsoever how I wanted my story to end. In the end I got a decent amount of views, but I'm not entirely proud of my story. (you can read it here if you want)

So this brings me to my next point in fanfic writing.
Have a plot in mind

Even if you don't know what every exact event is going to be in your story, have an idea of what will happen in the
beginning
middle
and end

This will give you an idea of where the story will go, and possibly how long it will be.
Now you don't need to have the entire plot of the story thought out already, have some general ideas.

As you move along with writing the story, you can add more details to the plot.

Tiny tip #1
What some authors like to do, (myself included) is write the story out on a computer
or even notebook before they post it here on AFF.
This is prevent you from posting a chapter and finding out it has nothing
to do with your original plot.

As you write your fanfic, you may notice a small little problem come for a visit.
Her name, is Writers' Block.
And every author gets writers' block at some point. So if/when it happens to you, don't freak out.
If you have writers' block, you're not alone.

Here are some ways to get past this little monster:

- Write about a random topic on a seperate word document or piece of paper.
Pineapples, monsters, cupcakes, zombies, bacon/Baekhyun, anything. It will help your brain become more stimulated and easier to concentrate and have those "creative juices" flowing. Once you have even just a paragraph, try and go back to your story, and see how it goes.

- Let it sit.
Maybe you just need to stop writing for a while. Maybe your brain needs a break. Go outside and jog for a while, make something to eat, maybe even just sleep on it for a few days. But you'll get your creativity back.

For more ways on how to get over writers' block, check out the wikihow page here.
