The King

“You were born a special person, little Henry. You were born to be the King. You were born to command. Other people are here to serve you. They’re all here to serve you.”

These words had been the 10 first years of the King. Said by his father, the previous King, they had been his life until that day when the previous King met the Mad Hatter. The actual King, who was the Prince back then, had heard everything.

“You can’t keep telling him this, my Lord”, had said the Mad Hatter’s low voice.

“Why can’t I, you insolent?”

“Because power gives you more duties than rights, you should know about this, my Lord.”

“Tell me more about this weird theory of yours.”

“You can make the inhabitants of Hearts obey, that’s right. But in exchange, you have to be a good King, treat them kindly, and share your wealth with them. If they don’t like you, they won’t want to obey, and you’ll make them angry and unhappy. There are rulers who don’t care, but I know my Lord isn’t like them. My Lord can be a good King.”

“You don’t know me well enough to say things like that, Mad Hatter. You don’t…”

“I know my Lord enough to know he was the one who gave me all these supplies so I could have food for the friends.”

The King hadn’t said anything after that, but he had stopped telling the Prince that he was special and born to reign over the country. The little Prince had thought this was because the King didn’t love him as much as before. And that’s how he had started hating the Mad Hatter so much.
