The Mad Hatter

Nobody knew where he came from, when he was born, who were his parents. Nobody knew his past, nobody knew his life from before he had found Ryeowook, nobody knew anything about him behind his mysterious and dark smile. Nobody knew why he suddenly needed his cane so much, why he had one leg weaker than the other. Nobody knew his origins, his birthday, or his real thoughts. He was the most mysterious inhabitant of Wonderland.

He had started hating this world after the Prince became the King. The king was capricious in his commands, and he wanted the whole world to obey him and work for him. He had stolen every single musical instrument he could find and had made his room covered in them. His greatest enemy was the Mad Hatter, and if the latter didn’t mind not being appreciated by the King, he hated the fact that he couldn’t drink tea without getting attacked by the King or his Knave.

He became darker, and more mysterious, only to try and better hide his madness. The only one he couldn’t hide it from was Ryeowook. The younger one knew him too well. He even surprised him tearing to shreds guards he had caught spying on him, a huge smile on his face, laughing crazily. Like that day he had saved him under the rain. But only worse.

“H… hey”, he had tried.

But when the Mad Hatter had looked at him, there was only madness in his eyes. He had jumped on him, and had been about to kill him before he had suddenly recognized him. And he had run away from him.

Later, Ryeowook had found him crying silently, seated on his usual chair. He had kissed his cheek softly.

“Don’t cry…”

“I almost killed you…”

“But you didn’t. I knew you wouldn’t.”

“You were scared.”

“Because of the madness in your eyes. But I knew you would recognize me.”

The Mad Hatter had cried in his arms, and the incident had been forgotten the day after.

Until that day.

“I’m so, so sorry”, sadly smiled the Mad Hatter, as Ryeowook was running away from him. “I’m so sorry… I… I love you so much… I can’t let you see me become mad again. That’s why I have to leave… I’m so sorry… I just… can’t take this world anymore… I’m sorry. I’m really, really sorry.”

He had got up, and slowly walked to the castle, limping a little. Once in front of the guards, his eyes had become dark.

He had shown the King why they would call him the ‘Mad’ Hatter.
