“I’m sorry,” Yoona pulled herself away from Donghae

“Is what you said true?” Donghae asked seriously

“I-I…” Yoona was so embarrassed. She ran away from Donghae and he started to run after her. Jessica noticed what was happening and started to run after Donghae. Quite a funny site really…

“OPPA!” Jessica screamed

“YOONA STOP RUNNING! WHY DO YOU ALWAYS RUN AWAY?! GET BACK HERE!” Donghae shouted as he ran

But Yoona pushed all of her athletic ability to the limit and broke into a sprint and soon lost Donghae. She slammed her hotel room door and collapsed onto the floor, crying into her hands. His words, ‘why do you always run away’ may have seemed nothing but they hurt Yoona a lot. In his eyes, she was a weakling, a pathetic coward that runs away when she can’t handle it… How dare he?! It’s only happened twice before in front of him, one was when she ran away to Europe the other was when Donghae first introduced Jessica as his girlfriend.

[Flashback]

Yoona saw Donghae coming towards her where she was sitting on a park bench.

“Babo! Over here!” Yoona called out

“Why do you call me babo? Can’t you call me oppa like the other girls?” Donghae asked

“I’m not like the other girls though,” Yoona pouted

“Agreed, out of all the girls in our school, you are the best,” Donghae complimented

“Why did you ask me to meet you here?”

“There is someone I wanted you to meet!”

“Really? Who?”

“SICA!” Donghae called out

“Oppa!” Jessica came out of no where

“Who is she?” Yoona was taken aback

“This is my girlfriend,” Donghae let Jessica sit on his lap

“Girlfriend? N-nice to meet you…” Yoona stammered

Yoona saw Jessica sitting on her crush’s lap and she stood up.

“Donghae I must go now. My mother is coming back from the hospital today,” Yoona lied

“That’s great! Why didn’t you tell me? Let’s go together! I haven’t seen Mrs. Im in a while!” Donghae held Jessica’s hand as they stood up with Yoona

“No… No you mustn’t come…” Yoona backed away

“Why?” Donghae asked. He was confused, usually Yoona and he always went to visit Yoona’s mother together.

“You just can’t!” Yoona yelled as she ran away so Donghae couldn’t see her tears

“So that’s your friend?” Jessica asked as they watched Yoona run away

“Don’t be mean Sica, she’s has been my friend ever since we were in Kindergarten,” Donghae warned

“So you have been friends for 10 years?”

“Yeah. And?”

“Well what’s wrong with her? She ran away as soon as I got here… Doesn’t she like me?”

“What’s not to like about you Sica?” Donghae grinned as he kissed her cheek

Yoona ran all the way to the hospital where her mother was staying. She rushed into her mother’s room and as soon as her mother saw her daughter was crying, the two of them hugged.

“Yoongie, my beautiful Yoongie, why are you crying?” her mother asked as she hugged her daughter

“It’s Donghae… Umma he hurt me…” Yoona cried

“What did he do?”

“He got a girlfriend”

“I know you have had a crush on him ever since Year 7, but Yoongie, you never told him. If you don’t tell him he won’t know, so it isn’t his fault,” Mrs. Im explained

“I’m ten times better than her! What does he see in her that he doesn’t see in me?!” Yoona sniffed

“Now Yoona, you know it’s bad to talk badly of other people behind their back, I didn’t raise you to be like this, did I?” Mrs. Im scolded

“Sorry… Umma when will you be out of the hospital?”

“As soon as some nice person donates their blood to me,” Mrs. Im answered

“Why did you have to be O negative? There aren’t that many people in Korea with O negative blood…” Yoona sighed

“Life is strange my princess. Go home to appa, he is probably worried sick!”

“Arasso, see you tomorrow umma,” Yoona kissed her mother’s forehead before running back home

[End of Flashback]

Yoona reached out for her phone, she needed to talk to somebody, anybody, she just needed to pour out her feelings to someone who cares. Her hand didn’t find the phone and Yoona stood up to look for it when she realised it wasn’t there. Dammit she must have left it at the café or at the river… She looked around once again just to make sure it wasn’t there before picking up keys. She was about to turn the doorknob when there was a knock at the door.

“Yoong, I’m only here to give you back your phone, you accidentally dropped it when you were running,” a hand pushed her phone underneath the door, “and if it’s possible I want to talk about what happened earlier. It’s okay if you don’t want to, but I will wait for 5 minutes and if you don’t come out then… then I’ll see you at the wedding”

So it was Donghae… Yoona looked at the clock and exactly 5 minutes later she heard the sound of footsteps leaving. She grabbed her phone and ran out to stop him.

“Wait! Donghae!” she called and he turned around and walked back to her, “Thank you for returning my phone,” she blushed

“It’s okay. Yoong I just want to know what really happened at the river earlier, where did all that suddenly come from?” Donghae asked

“All that came from a Year 7 school girl who finished high school watching you and Jessica together and who then went to Europe to avoid you…” Yoona said without looking at him

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier then? I hadn’t even met Jessica in Year 7…” Donghae wanted to know

“I was afraid you would reject me,” Yoona mumbled

“Oh…” Donghae raked a hand through his hair

“I guess I will see you at the wedding then,” Yoona gave him a small smile and turned around to enter her room again

“Are you sure?” Donghae asked

“You want to be with her… Don’t let me stop you,” Yoona looked at him

“Yoong”

“Why are you still here? You can leave now, go home to your… fiancée,” Yoona swallowed as she said that last word

“I can’t, I walked here and now it’s getting dark,” Donghae put his hands in his pocket

“Then are you saying you want to spend the night here?”

“If it’s okay”

“Sure, there are two beds in here anyways,” Yoona directed him to one bed

He watched her walk into the bathroom and feigned sleep when she came back out. He heard her sigh and then heard the sound of her getting into her own bed. The lights were turned out and soon enough, Yoona was asleep. Donghae got up and closed the window because of the cold breeze that was outside when he noticed Yoona was shivering. He pulled up her blanket but she was still shivering so he climbed in next to her and hugged her from behind. All the coldness in Yoona’s body was thawed out by the two’s body heat combined. Yoona turned in her sleep so now she was facing Donghae and she snuggled up next to him, resting her head on his chest. Donghae kept his arms around her, and he too fell asleep. In the morning he woke up before Yoona and he kissed her forehead and hugged her body one more time.

“I love you too Yoong,” he whispered, “But I have Jessica…”

He slowly sneaked out of her embrace and left the room, closing the door with a soft thud. But what Donghae didn’t know was that Yoona was awake the whole time. A tear rolled down her cheek as she repeated what had just happened in her mind.
