Welcome to the Philippines! Mabuhay!

A Trip to My Girlfriend's Homeland

Note: In this fanfic I will try to use Tagalog (Philippine’s main native language.) and translate them for you. I will tell you how and where the words are used in the author’s note. My definitions are not really the real real ones; it’s just basically my point of view. So if you’re Filipino do correct me if I’m wrong.

AUTHOR’S POV

It was around 7 am, Jaejoong and Hyerin is already at the airport waiting for their flight.

Jaejoong was wearing this:

While Hyerin was wearing this:

Her hair was in a messy bun and she has no make-up on.

They were sitting on the benches while waiting. They already checked-in their suitcases and other luggage. Hyerin has her head resting on Jaejoong’s shoulder while he was on his phone. Out of the blue Jaejoong took a photo of them. He tweeted it and added a caption:

I’m with the love of my life <3 J

“So cheesy!”Hyerin laughed while Jaejoong wrapped his arms around her pulling her closer.

“Only to you.” Jaejoong whispered which made Hyerin giggled.

“How many hours is our flight from South Korea to Philippines?”  Jaejoong asked while playing with Hyerin’s hands.

“About 3 hours and 45 minutes.” Hyerin answered.

“Not bad, we wouldn’t be that tired. I know how much you hate plane rides.” Jaejoong said. Hyerin nodded. Some people were staring at them noticing how close and sweet the couple was but they just ignored it.

“Flight from South Korea to the Philippines now boarding.” They heard the announcer and got up.

Hyerin got her bag and Jaejoong carried his black Louis Vuitton body bag. They held hands walking on the gate with their passport.

After the 3 hour and 45 minutes airplane ride the couple finally arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport located in Manila, Philippines. They walked out of the gates with Jaejoong pushing a cart of their luggage and Hyerin beside him.

“Welcome to the Philippines Babe!” Hyerin happily smiled to Jaejoong. Jaejoong smiled back and pecked her lips.

As they finally got out of the gates Hyerin searched for a familiar face.

“Hyerin!” She heard someone yelled and turned to the direction she heard it. She saw their family driver and waved at him.

“Manong! (Mister or Ahjusshi)” Hyerin walked towards him while Jaejoong followed.

“Ma’am welcome back!”The man in his late 50’s greeted him.

“Salamat Manong! (Thank You)” Hyerin smiled. The driver turned to Jaejoong and smiled.

“Ah Ma’am, siya po ba ung boyfriend niyo? (Ah Ma’am is he boyfriend?)” The driver asked.

“Opo (Yes)” Hyerin answered with a smile.

“Gwapo Ma’am. (He’s handsome Ma’am)” The driver added after admiring Jaejoong while wiggling his eyebrows. Hyerin laughed.

“Naman syempre! (Of course!)” Hyerin said. The driver helped them with their luggage.

They got inside the black Toyota car owned by Hyerin’s family.

“Ma’am diretso po ba tayo sa bahay niyo? (Ma’am, are we going straight to your house?)” The driver asked. Hyerin nodded.

The driver started the car and drove to Choi’s Residence.

While heading there Hyerin showed Jaejoong Manila’s street scenery. Jaejoong was amused at the difference the country has. It’s different in a unique way.

In Manila it’s mostly and commonly traffic. There are some of unique things you can see. Example there are some squatters or slums in different areas on Manila, there’s not really a lot of them their just mostly in a certain area or place. You can see a lot of street kids asking for money, people trying to have money by intentionally splattering water in your car’s windshield and cleaning it then they will ask for money. There are a lot of street vendors, people living on the side streets and trying to survive.

On the bright side Manila is just a normal city with many people. Foreigners are scattered everywhere touring around. There are a lot malls and places where you can have fun. It is one unique city where people from the province want to go to be successful in life or study. Prestige colleges and university are resided here. But just like any city Manila has its own positive and negative traits.

Some people even said Philippines is just like Mexico.

Jaejoong was most amused at the jeepneys. Jeepneys is a type of transportation vehicle in the Philippines, many commuters ride jeepney daily. It’s colorful and it has a lot of drawings and arts in it which makes it fun.

“Babe what’s that?” Jaejoong pointed at one of the Jeepneys.

“Babe, that’s called a Jeepney. It’s a public transportation vehicle here.” Hyerin explained with a smile. Jaejoong stared at it with amused eyes.

“It looks fun riding one.” Jaejoong mumbled.

“Don’t worry we’ll ride one.” Hyerin promised. Jaejoong smiled and nodded.

They heard a knock from the car window. They saw some kids and they look like they want something.

“Why are they knocking?” Jaejoong asked examining the young kids. The kids looked really pitiful, their clothes are torn and their dirty.

“Their street kids asking for money to buy food or toys. Some kids give the money to their parents since they don’t have jobs.” Hyerin explained opening up the window and giving each other the five kids 20 pesos. A peso is the Philippine currency.

“Do they go to school?” Jaejoong asked.

“Some do and some don’t because they don’t have money.” Hyerin explained. Jaejoong nodded and continued looking at the window.

The car finally pulled up at the Choi’s residence which is located in a village in Makati City, the house they live in just simple and not that extravagant.

They walked out of the car and headed to the front door. Their driver was unloading the car with their luggage.

Hyerin felt Jaejoong’s shaking hand in hers. She stopped in her tracks and faced him.

“Babe it’s okay. They’ll like you. Don’t be nervous.” Hyerin caressed his cheeks. Jaejoong was staring at her nervously but he broke into a smile.

“I hope so.” He said. Hyerin pecked his lips and pulled him with her headed to the front door.

‘This is it’ Jaejoong thought and took a deep breath.

Hyerin opened the door.

Here's some Tagalog Facts:

The Tagalog term Manong is used to called older male who you’re familiar with or is a stranger to you. It shows a sign of respect. Just like Ahjussi in Korean.

The term Opo is a respectful way to say yes to an older person. We also add Po when we ask questions. Example: Ano po ang gusto niyo? (What do you want?). By asking that question you’re referring to an older person.
