“Hey! Did you hear about the news?”

“What news?”

“A new student’s in town!”

“Don’t we always have new transfers here? Where are they coming from, this time? Sichuan? Guangzhou? Shanghai? Taiwan? Hongkong?”

“Ei, but this one’s special! She came from another country! Just like you, Wenwen!”

Kelly Yu Wenwen flinched at the mention of her coming from ‘another country.’ She will always still be considered a sort of a foreigner in their eyes even if she wasn’t, but she kept that thought to herself.

“And I heard she’s very pretty and talented too!”

“Another country?! How will she survive this academy? What do you think, Wenwen?”

Kelly turned to look at the two people trying to include her in the conversation. Cici and Lili were both staring at her expectantly.

A sigh left her lips before she turned back to her music draft, spinning her pen between her fingers, “I don’t know. We’ll have to watch and see when classes start.”

“Ying! Ying! As expected of Yu Wenwen.” Cici groaned, “You simply do not bother with the academe’s affairs unless it’s about music.”

“Hopefully, we’ll win this year’s competition.” Zhang Li wished as she slurped her noodles.

The trio have been seated on their usual spot at the academy’s mess hall. The courses have not started yet but most of the campus’ residents have settled into their designated townhouses weeks prior. Lili, Kelly, and Cici have been housed together since their freshmen years.

Despite her stoic reaction, Kelly wondered how the new student would survive such a cut-throat school program with little to no knowledge of the native language…

‘She’ll need a translator. I wonder who will fill in that role.’ Kelly thought then shrugged, ‘That’s not going to be my problem. We’ll find out soon enough.’
