Quiet whispers

The sun had set and the moon stood high in the diamond night sky. Looking up as they walked quietly, Nao couldn't help but watch in awe as the beautiful night sky danced above them. There's never a night sky like this in LA, Nao thought to herself quietly as her lips curled into a sweet smile, too much pollution and smog for something so beautiful. She curled up against Himchan, his arm still wrapped around her waist as she stared at the sky. There was a lingering chill in the air as the walked down the quiet sidewalk. Nestle in his warmth, none of that really mattered to her and she was the one that hated the cold. He glanced over at her, a foolish grin on his lips that met from ear to ear. He watched her as they walked down the empty street, his lips pressing against the crown of her head in a chaste kiss.

"What is it like in LA?" Himchan asked with a smile, grabbing her attention as she looked up at him behind full lashes. "Do you miss home?"

"LA is nice." She said softly, her head tilted against his shoulder. "I miss it but at the same time, I like it here. I like it a lot."

Himchan smiled softly as he pulled her closer to him as they walked into the more urban part of town. His mind raced to the many things that he wanted to show her. Dongdaemun market, Bugaksan, Cheonggyecheon stream, Gangnam, Hongdae, and maybe even Club Harlem. There were so many things he had to show her in a time span or of a year, there were so many things he wanted to experience with her for the first time before she had to leave. He felt a pang hit his heart, a heavy weight dropped on it as he remembered that their time together was running out as the days went by. He couldn't waste his time, that much he knew, but to do it all in a little less than a year, it seemed impossible.

"LA is a lively city." She said softly, her thoughts slipping her lips as she stared up at the sky in a trance. "So many different cultures, so many different people all in one place. You can find the world there if you wanted to. Every story, every person, you can meet them all there." Her voice trailed as her eyes left the skies and traced the grounds. "Its a magical city filed with life and culture. You can find so many different types of people there. Liberals, conservatives, hipsters, rockers, introverts, extroverts, mulattos, they're all there. There's always something to do, always someone to see." Himchan watched her as her thoughts filled the night sky, filling his ears as he listened to her. She spoke so sweetly about the distant urban city that he had only seen in pictures, as if she yearned it, longed for it. In her eyes, he could see the city he could only dream of. "LA is my home."

The ends of his lips curled into a smile as he leaned over and pressed his lips against her neck, not kissing but more like nudging her. She laughed, ticklish, as she gently pushed him away, unable to keep still any longer from the senses bundling in her body all in one wave. She squealed as he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her into his chest as he continued to tickle her with his nose and his lips. He laughed as she did, her unable to move away. She squealed for him to let go, almost to the point of screaming and before she could, he did.

Himchan regained his posture by her side, looking down at her with a smile as she looked up at him with those dark round eyes he was falling more and more in love with with every passing moment. He looked down at her and he saw a life that he didn't want to let go, he saw a life with her and how blissful of a life it looked, how tempting it was. He looked at her and he saw everything he was searching for, everything he was yearning for, in his arms in front of him. Her pink lips formed a sweet curve as her arms wrapped around his neck. She held him in her arms as she was held in his. Her ear pressed against his chest. She could hear the clear pounding of his heart. It made her laugh. He knew why she was laughing.

"Yah. Don't laugh at me." Himchan laughed as well as he let go of her, her taking a step back from his arms. "It's normal for Korean guys to get nervous because of this. We don't really do skinship you know."

"Excuses!" Nao teased as she grinned at him, her tongue stuck out a bit. "You're thinking dirty thoughts aren't you? Eww Himchan's a ert."

"Am not."

"Are too."

"Am not!"

She turned around. He gasped. She took a deep breath. "Kim Him Chan's--"

Himchan tackled her from behind, the palm of his hand over her lips. She was laughing, her shoulders raising and falling as the sounds of her muffled laughs left the tiny spaces of his fingers. He couldn't help but laugh as well. This side of her, the playful, mischievous side of her he would have never imagined for her to have, stunned him and he was easily caught in her spell. "You're going to get me in trouble!" He lightly squeezed her sides, getting a heartful yelp from her that made him grin a toothy grin. "What do you think you're doing?"

"I'm just having a little fun." She chuckled as she spun on her heel, walking backwards a few steps ahead of him. Her eyes played games with his as he watched, matching her steps so to keep the distance between them from growing. Her arms were pulled behind her back; her chest jutted forward, her torso leaning inwards as she gave him a questioning look paired with a devious smirk. "Can't a girl have fun in a foreign city?"

"Not when she's seen with a local man." He grinned as he jogged up to her, holding her in his arms, her head tiled back. He pressed her forehead against hers, looking down at her lively eyes that wee discretely covered behind thick lashes. "Everyone's going to think wrongly of me."

"Then lets go somewhere foreign and have fun there." She whispered with a grin on her lips, her pearly teeth out in the open as her upper gums were in full view. "We can be those crazy foreigners that screamed to the heavens at night on the streets and walked barefoot across the wondrous city."

"Sounds like fun." He laughed. Her playfulness, her extremely odd suggestions, he couldn't even begin to fathom how such a girl could be so different. She was nothing like Korean women. She wasn't conformed, composed. She was a bit crazy, a bit mischievous, a bit snarky, and the best part was that she was subtle. She didn't advertise herself as the fun, outgoing, overly crazy girl. She came off as calm, level headed, reserved and now she was insisting on doing things no calm, level headed person would ever suggest. There were so many sides of her and he was addicted. "Where would you like to go? Rome? Greece? London?"

"Paris." She chuckled, pressing her nose against his.

They stared at one another, her eyes tracing his sharp features before falling onto his eyes while his traced her gentle features before looking into her own eyes. He wanted to lean in, to press his lips against her own, to hold her close and never let go but instead he did the opposite. He pulled away, straightening his coat once more as he looked at her, offering a small smile. To travel the city of love with her, Himchan thought with a smile as he approached her, taking her hand in his, would be a blessing.

For the rest of the time, they walked in silence. Their fingers laced over one another and was stuffed into the packet of his coat. Ocassionally, they would nudge one another, more her to him than vice versa. Continuously, the would walk arm to arm and near the end, she would lay her head against his arm. Their pace began to slow as they realized they were getting closer to her apartment. It was already late, way past midnight and it was best that they seperated ways quickly once she was already back in her apartment but neither wanted that. They sat quietly in the living room, thinking the same thing but desiring the other. She looked over at him, wondering what he was thinking and hoping that he was thinking the same thing too.

"I should get going." Himchan said abruptly in the silence as he got to his feet, tossing his backpack onto his shoulder. He wanted to stay, possibly stay the night even if she had permitted but that was all too weird, all too quick and even he knew better than that. "I'll see you Monday."

Nao followed him to the door, holding it open as he stood on one side and she on the other. Their eyes fell upon one another; neither wanted the other to leave. Her jaw dropped, wanting to say something but was forced to press her lips in a thin line when nothing was said. She was really beating herself up, cursing to herself for not being able to come up with anything.

"I'll see you later--"

"Do you want to come over tomorrow afternoon?" Himchan looked back at her, his body already half turned, his eyes a bit wider than usual in a mix of shock and confusion. "I still need a bit of help on the essay. And I was thinking of cooking tomorrow, for lunch. Maybe you can join me--?"

He felt his heart flutter as Nao looked everywhere but at him. A soft smile slipped his lips as a deep breath left his chest, the tightening sensation leaving his chest and feeling as if he could finally breath again. "What time?"

"I'll text you."

"Then I'll see you than."
