Chapter 1: A trip to the grocery store

A fated meeting

It's summertime and there was no sign of rain anytime soon. The air was humid and everything was sticky.

This was the best and worst season of the year. It was the best because there was no school. It was the worst because of the nasty weather.

These thoughts ran through Sinb's mind while she was laying on the living room couch. She had been a couch potato ever since break started and she was determined to remain one till school resumed. She didn't feel bad about it though. She didn't have many friends, except for Yerin and Sowon. They had been her best friends ever since elementary school. They did everything together, but as they entered high school, their relationship started to falter. Yerin was busy with the student council. Sowon was busy with her photography club. And Sinb was busy with her Astronomy club, and no, there is no math involved because Sinb could not do math to save her life. There were some interesting individuals in the club, but Sinb really enjoyed observing the stars and planets with them.

This club was Sinb's home. It was her safe haven from the loneliness at home. Her parents were always overseas for work and she had no siblings. Coming home every night to all the empty rooms at home created a sense a dread within her. However, within the quietness and darkness of her home, she found a sense of peace. She was not sure why she felt this way, but maybe her home was always there when she had a tough day at school or when she fought with her friends. It was all confusing, but Sinb knew that she was okay with being alone. Afterall, she had always been alone. Even when she was with Yerin and Sowon, she felt like she was trying too hard to make conversation. She doesn't hate her friends. It's quite the opposite. She loves them to death and would go through hell for them. But Sinb had always been reserved when it comes to her emotions. She avoided anything that would make her vulnerable. However, Yerin and Sowon continued to be patient with her. Not only that, they supported her every step of the way and Sinb knew that she would never take her best friends for granted. Afterall, Yerin and Sowon hold a very special place in her heart.

"aishhhh"

Sinb groans as she drags herself to the kitchen to grab some lemonade. The air conditioner had broke a few days prior. She was suffering in this nasty weather. She had called someone to come fix it but they said they would not be able to till next week.

"great. now I have to suffer another week without AC."

Her break did not start off well and to top it off, her fridge was empty. She didn't want to go out in this weather, but it was this or she was going to starve herself to death.

After 10 minutes of pondering about whether she was going to go outside in the scorching heat or stay inside and starve to death, she decided to put on a t-shirt and some pants before heading out into the battlefield.

"why is it so hot today?!?! I should have stayed home."

Sinb mumbles to herself while walking to the grocery store that was once a 5 minute walk, now seemed like it was 50 miles away. After what seemed like eternity, she walks through the sliding doors and was greeted by the cold air inside the store.

"wow I finally made it."

"I wonder what I should make for dinner tonight"

Sinb was pondering about what to cook for dinner, lost in her thought, when she trips over a shopping basket and lands on her .

"yahhhh who the heck leaves their groceries in middle of the aisle??!?!"

She was cursing to herself when she feels a tap on her shoulders. Snapped out of her rage, she looks up at the girl that just tapped her shoulder. Sinb was shocked at first, not because the girl was extremely beautiful and tall. But because she looked like a mess on the floor in front of this extremely beautiful and tall girl. She was taken aback at how delicate her facial features were. Clear skin. Perfectly threaded eyebrows. Dark brown eyes that seemed to lure you in. Everything about this girl was ethereal.

Sinb snapped out of her trance as the girl offers her hand. Sinb nervously takes her hand, afraid that she would break this delicate girl. However, the moment their hands touched, Sinb felt a sense of warmth, like coming home to her mom's cooked meals. It felt like those summer nights when Yerin and Sowon would watch the stars with her. It felt like home.

She quickly pulled her hand away when she realized that she had been holding onto the girl's hand for quite some time.

"Ah, I'm sorry! Thanks for the help!"

Sinb nearly had a heart attack realizing how awkward that was. The girl must have thought she was come creep.

The girl smiles.

"You're very welcome! I apologize for putting my groceries there! I was just looking at some spices when I heard a loud thud behind me. Are you hurt anywhere?"

Sinb feeling very embarrassed that she tripped over this girl's grocery, started to apologize for tripping over her groceries.

"no no no! it's my fault that I didn't see where I was going! And I'm fine! I'm a tough nut to crack!"

The girl giggles.

"well I am going to go now! my mom wants me home so she can cook dinner soon! thanks for help and sorry for tripping over your groceries!"

Sinb turns away from the girl and being the nervous wreck she is, she starts to run down the aisle as fast as she could because she could not stand seeing that beautiful girl's face anymore. She might do something stupid again. She dashes through the sliding doors and was greeted by the humidity outside.

After what seemed like 10 minutes of running. Sinb stopped to catch her breath. She couldn't stop thinking about the girl. She couldn't help but wonder why she felt so nervous. She has never been this nervous around anyone or anything. Afterall, she was known for her calm and cool demeanor. In a way, she was very stoic. But this girl made her feel a different kind of emotion. Something that she had never felt before or never knew that she craved until she met this girl.

As Sinb walks home, she realizes that she didn't buy her groceries.

". I'm just gonna starve to death tonight."

As Sinb unlocked the front door, she couldn't help but smile, because for once, she didn't feel the coldness of her empty house. She felt a warmth.

She closes the door.

"I'm finally home."
