Ep 4 : Distance Between Fondness and Kindness

*breeze sounds

Eunbi woke up feeling fresh, the sun was shining and so was she.

She stretched a little bit before walking up to her closet. Spending a little time in front of her mirror.

Memory of yesterday flashes through her mind.

“I'm not like anyone else. I don't think you're perfect at all.”

“This is natural.”

“That's why I want to be a member of the student council.”

Eunbi fixed her hair and sighed happily. Her cheeks got a hint of rosy tint.

‘Let's get it!’ She cheered internally. Today is gonna be another good day.

*sounds of trains*

A small smile tugged on her lips as she stared out the window of the train.

Her classmate greeted her when they walked out of the station, “Good Morning, Eunbi.”

“Good Morning.,” she replied with the same enthusiasm.

Kei was changing her shoes when her best friend greeted her.

“Kei!”

“Oh Eunbi,” she greeted back.

“Good morning!”

Kei, confused with the sight of a widely smiling Eunbi, wondered. Something good must've happened.

“You're in a good mood today,” she said.

Eunbi just giggled and they walked to their classroom together.

“Oh, it's the presidential couple!” Their male classmates teased them.

“Couple? Nope.” Eunbi walked away just smiling. It's the usual teasing they got from time to time anyway.

“Good Morning!” Kei however greeted the boys. Ignoring the gossip she knew about to unleash.

“Who is the husband you think?”

“Ah, it must be Kwon though.”

Kei stares at her friend,“Are you going to say it today?”

Eunbi nodded and hummed, “Yeah.”

“It's finally here.”

Eunbi nodded again, “We can finally start. Will you help me?”

Kei hummed a few seconds, thinking of a cheeky reply, “Your wish is my command!”

In Sakura's classroom...

Hyewon was writing something on her notebook while Yena was cleaning the board.

The athlete turned around to see what her friend was doing.

“Hyewon! Is it okay if I clean the board now?” She asked.

Hyewon was startled out of her space, “Huh? Oh yeah, sure.”

“I mean, sorry! I wasn't looking at the board!”

“Whatttt???” Yena groaned, she had been waiting for her friend to finish writing thinking she's copying the notes on the board. What the fun, she got tricked!

Sakura walked towards Hyewon, wondering what the girl was up to “Well then, what have you been writing then?” She peeked over to see.

Hyewon once again got so startled, “N..NOTHING!” She quickly hid away her notebook.

‘Okay this is weird,’

Yena ran past them, rushing to her practice, “See you girls tomorrow!”

The two girls just stared at the energetic girl.

“Yena looks so happy,” Sakura smiled.

“Yeah..” Hyewon couldn't agree more on that.

“Miyawaki san…” a soft voice calling out her name from their front door.

Two heads spinning towards the direction like a deer caught in headlights.

Eunbi is standing with a bright smile waving at Sakura.

The sight of the president raises amazement among the passing by juniors.

“It's the student council's president,” a boy whispered.

”Miyawaki is amazing,” his friend whispered back. They really are not being so subtle.

“You don't have to trouble yourself picking me up,” Sakura said. Which is more of a warning actually.

But lovestruck Eunbi could bother less as she just laughed it off, “I just can't wait to see your face.”

Sakura sighed internally, “Senpai…”

“Huh?”

“Um…” Sakura hesitated.

“What is it?”

“You're being too close!” The younger warned.

“Oh! Am I? Hehehehe,” Eunbi pretended to be oblivious.

“You don't realize it? You really have a poor sense of space,” Sakura sighed again and continued

“You don't want people to misunderstand our relationship, do you? You are everyone's trusted leader.”

Eunbi pinched her chin, still in her state of ‘oblivious’, “I don't think it would be a misunderstanding.”

“It is!”

“Okay… I'll be careful…” Eunbi scooted away with a sad voice and solemn face.

**********

“Oh, you're early!” Eunbi exclaimed as she opened the door and saw the room already occupied with Kei, Yuta and an unknown boy.

Sakura peeked from behind Eunbi in curiosity.

“Who's that?” She asked.

Eunbi turned to her and introduced the boy, “This is Doujima-Kun, your fellow first year student.”

The said boy gleefully introduced himself, “That's me! Hi, nice to meet you!”

“Kuze senpai recommended him.”

“Ah….” Sakura nodded.

“We were in the same club during junior high,” Doujima explained.

“You mean the kendo club? Why not join it here too?” Kei asked him.

“Nah. I'm a weakling so I figured I'd give it a pass in high school. Anyway I thought the student council would be good for university applications,” he said.

“I'm Miyawaki Sakura, first year too,” Sakura briefly introduced herself.

They shared a conversation while their seniors were just watching the interaction.

“Can this guy work, though?” Kei genuinely asked Eunbi.

“Well Kuze senpai recommended him. So he's probably alright, right?” Eunbi just shrugged.

“That's what worries me,” Kei confessed.

They both can imagine the said senpai being his silly self

“With talented friends like this, I can take it easy!”

“But he's the kind of guy who takes the effort to make sure everyone else is good at what they do,” Eunbi comforted her.

“You may have a point,” Kei nodded.

“At any rate, he came here on his own. That's what matters most!” Eunbi just shrugged, convincing herself and also Kei.

“Well, Everyone seems to have arrived. So let me have a say. I am Kwon Eunbi, President of the student council,” Eunbi started the meeting with her brief introduction.

“I'm Kim Kei, Vice President.”

“With these 5 members, we will run the student council together.”

“Let's have a good year!”

“We're busy all the time but during events it's pretty hard work, so be prepared.”

“The hardest event of them all is…..” Eunbi suddenly pointed at Sakura in suspense.

“Tell them, Miyawaki!”

“Huh?! Uh… um… the culture festival?” She guessed.

“Yes! The culture festival!” Eunbi agreed.

“We work behind the scenes. Our job is to make sure the students can focus all their energy on having fun,” Kei explained

“We allocate places and times, and dole out jobs to committee members,” Eunbi continued.

“Sounds dull,” Doujima said.

“It's important work,” Kei glared at the lack of sense.

“Yes, but this year won't just be behind the scenes. There's something more I want to do,” Eunbi grinned.

“Revive the student council play” she clapped her hands.

“Revive a play?” Sakura asked.

“Culture festivals often have plays, it's true. Does the student council do it?” Yuta asked.

Eunbi took a deep breath and smiled, “Our school doesn't have a drama club, right? In the past the craft club and the art club and other cultural clubs put together a plan for a play and proposed it.

Right? Plays need costumes and scenery and all that. They contributed through their club activities.”

“But then they didn't have enough actors,” Kei added.

“But why the student council?” Sakura voiced out.

“I guess the members that year were easy to convince. Ever since then it has become an annual tradition. But that was seven years ago I think. They stopped doing it,” Eunbi then continued,

“I just think it would be fun to revive it. What do you think?”

“It sounds fun. I want to do it!” Doujima raised his hand.

“Really?” Eunbi's eyes twinkled.

“To be honest, I'm not really into it. I think we'll be busy enough with our regular duties,” Yuta shared his opinion.

“I never thought I'd get stuck doing a play when I joined the student council!” Sakura said.

“Is that so?” Eunbi gulped.

Eunbi chuckled, trying to calm herself “Oh well, it's still just an idea. There's still time before the cultural festival. Think about it.”

“Setting aside whether we'll do the play or not, as student council the cultural festival is the biggest….” Kei don't get to finish her words when Sakura chimed in.

“Sorting papers….” Sakura stared at the mountain of files in front of her.

“It's part of the handover after all,” Kei chuckled.

“Could you take these papers and sort them into the right files for me? The activity reports and budget charts are stored in the student council room, so keep them separate,” Kei asked her.

Despite not totally in it, what else can Sakura say?

Sakura sighed when she finally finished her work.

“Oh Miyawaki, did you really want to join the student council or something?” Doujima asked her out of the blue.

“Not really… why?” She asked back.

“Because your campaign speech was all, “I want to join the student council!” I thought you must really be into it,”

“That was just, uh… you know, the heat of the moment, uh… Anyway, I just started out helping and next thing I knew, I was on the council.”

“What about you Yuta?” The boy asked him.

“I was on the student council back in junior high….”

Chapter 1: You breaking the fourth wall will never cease to amuse me. Hahahaha

I haven't finished watching the anime yet so I'm curious to see the progression of the story. I wonder if your expression of their thoughts will differ from how they showcase it in the anime, as it is kkubi instead of the original pairing. Will the plot have most similarities or will you be tweaking here and there (plot wise)?

I realize that the girls will be the reason for each other getting out of that pattern (not having butterflies), or at least I'm assuming hahaha I'm excited to see the story unfold as I have not finished.

Good work author-nim! Looking forward to the rest~ :)
