It's Okay Because I Love You Now

 

Baekhyun just finished washing the dishes from last night's dinner. Now he was wiping them and kept them back inside the cabinet

His eyes wandered all over the house. He stared at the door to the bedroom which didn't seem to be opened any soon

His gaze shifted to the huge portrait at the living room, hanging in the wall. Their wedding portrait. It was a little bit disoriented from Baekhyun's perspective

He put down everything and marched to the living room to fix the portrait. He moved the frame a little to the right and it aligned,  at last

He stood there for a moment, looking at the portrait of him and his wife, Eunji. It had been two years but somehow he never felt time passed by them

Perhaps his cold behaviour kept a certain boundaries between him and his wife. Like,  they never did something more than just kissing and hugging

Eunji had always been bold about her feelings and emotions. In fact, she was the one who proposed to Baekhyun to marry her first. At the beginning Baekhyun was annoyed, but still here he was. Living under the same roof and even vowed to spend his remaining life with the 'annoying girl'

Pap!

The sound of the door being closed distracted Baekhyun. Eunji finally woke up from her sleep, yawing and stretching her limbs apart

Baekhyun-Are you not working today Doctor Jung?
Eunji-I do

She yawned again. Eunji walked sloppily towards Baekhyun, spreading her arms apart and hugged him

Eunji-Morning kiss

She demanded from her husband. Baekhyun smirked before he flicked Eunji"s forehead

Eunji-Aw!
Baekhyun-Brush your teeth, wash your face and take a bath before demanding something like that

Baekhyun turned around and walked back to the kitchen to cook breakfast. Eunji pursed her lips annoyingly

Eunji-Okay, I will do all that. But promise, you will kiss me after I bathed. Okay?
Baekhyun-Just take a shower already. You don't have much time
Eunji-Okay my love

Eunji said cheekily. She went into the bathroom to wash up

Baekhyun keep glancing at the bathroom this time. He chuckled a bit, shaking his head

Eunji-I'm done!

Eunji shouted out of nowhere. Baekhyun didn't notice she had done showering. Now she approached her husband again at the kitchen, asking for the same thing

Eunji-Now, kiss
Baekhyun-Can you consider wearing your proper clothes before we proceed with your demand?
Eunji-Aish

Eunji stomped her feet towards their room. Obviously she was pissed

To be frank, this was not the first time Baekhyun ever rejected to kiss Eunji right away. He always delayed her demand by putting up excuses

It was because Baekhyun actually nervous every time they had to do that. The moment their lips locked, his heart beat like crazy to the point he afraid Eunji might notice his heart beating so fast

Baekhyun-Are you done?

Eunji came out with her briefcase and white long-coat. She sat at the counter, pouting at her husband

Baekhyun-Eat first
Eunji-I don't want...
Baekhyun-Just eat
Eunji-Hmph!

Eunji protested but she still ate the sandwich anyways. Baekhyun served tomato juice, his wife's favourite

Eunji-Can you stop delaying my demand?
Baekhyun-What?
Eunji-I want a kiss
Baekhyun-Finish your breakfast and we kiss
Eunji-Aish, you can be more annoying than I am sometimes
Baekhyun-No. Your demand is more annoying

Eunji-You don't like kissing me?
Baekhyun-No, it's annoying
Eunji-Wah, seriously. You are unbelievable. Why?!
Baekhyun-It feels weird
Eunji-Weird? Me? My exes said I am a good kisser
Baekhyun-Sadly not me

Eunji curved up her upper lips. She drank the tomato juice in one go

Eunji-Should I make you my ex too?

She mumbled under her breath but loud enough for Baekhyun to hear her. He chuckled

Baekhyun-I will drive you to work

Baekhyun stood up but before he could move his hand, Eunji grasped on him and pulled Baekhyun down to her

The couple finally kissed for the first time today. It wasn't a long yet not too short kiss but enough to satisfy Eunji's demand, and still managed to make Baekhyun's heart race at full speed

Eunji-I don't feel it's weird at all

Eunji took her coat and briefcase then walked to the door

Eunji-Quick or I will be late

Baekhyun froze for a few moment before he managed to pull himself together. He quickly grabbed the car key and went out as well

Sending Eunji off to work had always been a routine for Baekhyun. She is a Houseman at HSN Hospital, 3km away from their apartment unit

Eunji-Oppa, how do I look today?
Baekhyun-Weird

Baekhyun answered without hesitating. He never meant what he said if he answered something without thinking first. And Eunji had always known that. That was the reason Eunji never take it to heart

Because she knew, deep down Baekhyun was a soft-spoken and a gentle person. And only Eunji could see that particular side of him

Eunji-Can you be honest with me just once?

Baekhyun laughed. He stopped their car before the red light. He got the chance to look at his wife now

Baekhyun-Look at me

Eunji slightly turned to her side to let Baekhyun see her feature

Baekhyun-Did you wear make-up?
Eunji-I just put on some powder
Baekhyun-Really? But you look amazingly beautiful
Eunji-Really?! Ah, I don't believe you
Baekhyun-Up to you

Eunji bit her lower lip. It was rare for Baekhyun to compliment her this way

Eunji-Did you really mean it?
Baekhyun-Can't you see I was thinking before I answered you? Of course I mean it, you are beautiful today too

Eunji hid her flushed cheeks

Eunji-Too? You mean I was beautiful even before this?

Instead of answering, Baekhyun focused back on his driving. The car decelerated in front of HSN Hospital and finally stopped

Baekhyun-Call me once you finished with your shift
Eunji-I will

Chup!

Eunji pecked Baekhyun's lips. This time, he did not avoid her action

Eunji-I love you. See you later

Eunji stepped out of the car and headed into the hospital where she worked. She kept on turning back and waved at her husband until she completely disappeared into the building. That was when Baekhyun drove back home

The next day

 

Baekhyun-Eunji, are you up yet?

 

Pap!

 

Eunji came out of their bedroom, already in her suits. But she looked a little different today. Actually it was sincelast night when Baekhyun fetched her from the hospital

 

She didn't talk much, only nodded as a response to Baekhyun. When they got home, she took a shower and immediately went to sleep

 

Baekhyun didn't get to speak to his wife until now. But she still didn't show so much emotions today too

 

Baekhyun-Are you okay Eunji?
Eunji-Hmm? Hmm

 

Her answers would be 'Hmm' but different intonations. At times Baekhyun got confused whether it was a 'Yes' or 'No'

 

Baekhyun-Eat your food
Eunji-Hmm

 

Baekhyun moved to the fridge to get rid of the old and spoiled food. Once he finished, Baekhyun went to sit beside Eunji. Surprisingly she did not touch her meal at all

 

Baekhyun-Hey, why aren't you eating?
Eunji-I'm not hungry
Baekhyun-Is something wrong?
Eunji-No, I'm okay. Don't worry

 

Eunji was a bit off today. She never acted this way before. Even though when she was sick, Eunji would be clingy instead of being quiet and passive

 

Baekhyun-I will feed you. Okay?

 

Eunji smiled kindly at her husband and nodded. Baekhyun felt relieved that she agreed to eat. Even though for only two spoons

 

Baekhyun-Eat some more
Eunji-I'm fine
Baekhyun-Are you sure?
Eunji-Hmm
Baekhyun-Fine. Let's go. I will drive you

Eunji smiled and nodded at her husband. As usual, Baekhyun drove Eunji to HSN hospital

Baekhyun-Call me when you are done with your shift
Eunji-Hmm

Eunji dropped from the car with her case and gown. No clingy kiss, no cheeky words, no 'I love you. See you later' before she left. And somehow Baekhyun felt something went missing

But he shoved all those thoughts off his head and drove back home

4 hours later, Baekhyun received a surprising text from his wife

From. Eunji ♥
Oppa, can you fetch me from the hospital now?

Baekhyun did not ask any further but sent a 'Yes' instead. He was already outside at the convenience store. So he just had to walk a couple miles more to get there

It was raining slightly and Baekhyun was waiting with an umbrella in front of the automatic door

Suddenly he felt a pair of arms clinging onto him

Eunji-Oppa!
Baekhyun-Hey

Baekhyun smiled when Eunji smiled. Her mood seemed to be better now

Eunji-Why didn't you come in a car? It's raining
Baekhyun-Ah, I was out when you texted me so I came right away. Why, are you not comfortable walking in the rain?
Eunji-No. Hmm

BaekJi-Let's go on a date

Baekhyun and Eunji said at the same time. Then they laughed

Eunji-We are sharing the same brain cells now
Baekhyun-Want to take a walk?

Eunji nodded with a grin. Baekhyun intertwined their fingers and pulled Eunji closer to him

Baekhyun-Let's go

Baekhyun and Eunji walked side by side under the umbrella that only fit for one and half people. But since they were very close to one another, it was not a problem at all

Eunji-We should walk together more often. This feels so good

Baekhyun nodded, agreeing

Baekhyun-Eunji? I have been meaning to ask you this
Eunji-What is it?
Baekhyun-How is your day?

Eunji glanced over her shoulder at Baekhyun. She smiled lightly

Eunji-Why are you curious?
Baekhyun-I have been thinking if I did something wrong that upset you
Eunji-What? No, you did nothing wrong
Baekhyun-Really? That's relief then

Eunji stopped walking and followed by Baekhyun. He turned to face his wife who was looking down at their feet at the moment

Baekhyun-Eunji?
Eunji-Something happened at work. They decided to stop all the machines on one of my patient. And she died today, just now, only one hour ago

Baekhyun embraced Eunji. Now he understood what had been bothering his wife all this time

Baekhyun-It's okay. You have done your best for her
Eunji-Her husband begged me to save his wife. I feel so bad for him. Uhuk! Uhuk!

Eunji cried. Baekhyun pressed her head into his shoulder and Eunji's back, hoping she would feel better

Baekhyun-It's not your fault. Her time has come. There is nothing more you can do
Eunji-I keep telling other doctors to wait another day. Maybe she would respond if we waited some more. But.. But..
Baekhyun-Shh

Baekhyun patted Eunji's back until she calmed down a little

Eunji-If you had to go through such situation, what would you do?

Baekhyun thought for one moment

Baekhyun-During crucial time, we have to choose what we should do rather than what we want to do. You want to keep him but you should let him go. We have to accept defeat. Not everything will turn out as we pleased. Stay strong okay? I am right here whenever you need me

Eunji tightened the hug as well as Baekhyun

Eunji-Baekhyun?
Baekhyun-Hmm?
Eunji-Do you love me?

Baekhyun reluctantly broke their hug. He looked down at Eunji who was slightly shorter than him. Baekhyun caressed Eunji's hair dearly and then her cheek

Baekhyun-What do you think?
Eunji-I think I still have to try hard to make you fall in love with me
Baekhyun-No, you don't have to. Just be yourself
Eunji-But you said I'm annoying. You hate it whenever I kiss you, hug you or even being clingy to you
Baekhyun-I never said I hate them

Eunji frowned

Baekhyun-I was just... Nervous. Every time you asked for a kiss or a hug, all I feel is nervous. My heart will beat really fast. But this morning you didn't ask any kiss from me. You didn't say you love me before you go. I feel something had gone missing the whole day

Baekhyun lowered his face to Eunji's, boring into her eyes

Baekhyun-I think it's better to feel my heart racing rather than feeling it stops

Baekhyun held Eunji's left hand up and kissed the back side of her palm gently

Baekhyun-I love you Byun Eunji
Eunji-I love you too

Baekhyun brushed his lips against Eunji's. They stayed under the rain a little bit longer, kissing passionately and lovingly

Skip!

Baekhyun closed back the door behind him and put the wet umbrella inside the basket

Baekhyun-You should take a warm bath
Eunji-You too
Baekhyun-I will go after you
Eunji-Or we can just bath together?

Baekhyun tilted his head to the side, smiling cheekily

Baekhyun-What?
Eunji-Uhm, no. I should bath first

Eunji quickly went to take her bathrobe from the verandah. When she turned around, Baekhyun stood before her, blocking her way

Eunji-Wh.. Why?
Baekhyun-Maybe?

Baekhyun took his towel as well and dragged Eunji with him into the bathroom

They came out 30 minutes after bathing together, giggling to their inside jokes that they would never share

Eunji dried her hair in front of the mirror

Baekhyun-Let me do it
Eunji-Thanks

Baekhyun took the towel from his wife and told her to face him. He put the towel on top of Eunji's head; covering her eyes and dried her hair gently

At times he stole a kiss on Eunji's lips, making her whined shyly

Eunji-Oppa!

Baekhyun laughed together with Eunji

Baekhyun-I love you
Eunji-I know, don't have to repeat
Baekhyun-I just want you to always know that

Eunji's cheeks flushed to red. Baekhyun held Eunji's face before he leant over to kiss her. Eunji put both of her hands on Baekhyun's chest before they went down to touch his structured abs. Baekhyun moaned

He lifted Eunji up and brought her to their bed

Baekhyun-I'm sorry we take 2 years for this
Eunji-Then stop making it longer

Baekhyun's hand trailed under his pillow to find the remote control, switching off the lights

 

The next day

 

Eunji-Good morning
Baekhyun-Morning

 

Eunji pecked Baekhyun's lips and stood beside him. Just then, Baekhyun's phone rang

 

Eunji-Pick up your phone. I will continue doing the dishes
Baekhyun-Thanks

 

Baekhyun kissed Eunji's cheek and moved to the living room to pick up the call. Eunji proceed to wash and dry the plates before putting them back inside the cabinet

 

After 10 minutes, Baekhyun came back

 

Eunji-Who was it?
Baekhyun-Hwiseong
Eunji-Is it about work?
Baekhyun-Yeah. Someone agrees to invest in our project. We have a meeting outside the town tomorrow
Eunji-Whoa, that is cool

 

Baekhyun-Ah, I cannot send you to work tomorrow
Eunji-It's okay, I can take a cab
Baekhyun-Really?
Eunji-Yes. I work afternoon shift this week. It cannot be helped

 

Baekhyun-I feel bad for you
Eunji-You don't have to. I really mean it

 

Baekhyun pouted before hugging his wife

 

Baekhyun-Since we are both free today, what about a movie date?
Eunji-That sounds nice

 

Baekhyun-I will make delicious snacks so we can eat while watching the movie
Eunji-And I will set up the DVD player
Baekhyun-That's cool. Go

 

Eunji pecked Baekhyun's lips before she strolled off from the kitchen to the living room. The couple ended up spending their day watching movies together from morning to night

 

They even ended up sleeping in the living room, cuddling under the comforter on the couch

Baekhyun had left to Gosan with Hwiseong at dawn. Now they had arrived and the meeting was starting in 10 minutes

 

Baekhyun kept checking his phone, waiting for Eunji's call. He was worried that his wife might still be sleeping at home

Eat something before
you go to work

 

To. Eunji ♥

Baekhyun's phone buzzed and Eunji's name appeared on the screen. He picked up right away

 

Baekhyun-Hey, are you up?

 

"Yeah. But.. I am.. Late. I woke up late... I'm.. Hah"

 

Baekhyun-Are you okay? Why are you panting?

 

"I'm rushing to the CS. I need to buy something to eat"

 

Baekhyun-Aish, I should cook something for you before I left

 

"No, it's okay. I'm at the store right now. Finally. Oh no, I have 15 minutes. And it starts to rain now"

 

Baekhyun-I will call a cab for you

 

"No, it's okay. I'm so close to the hospital"

 

Hwiseong-Baekhyun, we need to go now

 

Baekhyun nodded at Hwiseong

 

Baekhyun-Are you really okay?

 

"Yes, yes. Don't worry about me"

 

Baekhyun-I have to go now

 

"Sure"

 

Baekhyun-I will call you back in 2 hours. Make sure you have your phone with you

 

"Aye aye captain"

 

Baekhyun-I love you. See you later

 

"I love you too. Bye"

 

Baekhyun and Eunji cut the lines at the same time

 

Baekhyun moved to the meeting room and the discussion went on from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Baekhyun missed the actual time to call Eunji

 

After he came out of the meeting room, Baekhyun check his phone first. There were tons of message from his wife

 

From. Eunji ♥
Are you done with your meeting?

 

From. Eunji ♥
I was waiting for you to call
but I guess you are still in meeting

 

From. Eunji ♥
I'm going out for lunch
It's still raining heavily

 

From. Eunji ♥
Have you eaten honey?

 

From. Eunji ♥
Call me any time when you are done ♡

 

From. Eunji ♥
I will wait

 

Baekhyun pressed on Eunji's name to call her right away. After some beeps, she picked up the phone

 

Baekhyun-Hello, Eunji. I'm sorry I made you wait, I was...

 

"Hello, are you Miss Jung Eunji's husband?"

 

Baekhyun's face turned dull when a guy received his call instead of Eunji

 

Baekhyun-Yes, I am her husband. Who is speaking?

 

"I am Inspector Choi Jaeseob from Seoul Police Station. I am sorry to say this, but your wife involved in a road accident a while ago. She was rushed to HSN Hospital to receive further treatment"

 

Baekhyun-Wh.. What? Road accident? Are you sure?

 

"Yes sir. I wish to see you at the hospital"

 

Baekhyun-I will be there shortly

 

Baekhyun dropped his hand to his side. He stood blankly for a moment. He felt like everything stopped moving at that time

 

Jung Eunji. His wife. Got into a road accident. It was way too impossible to swallow

It had been 10 days since Eunji involved in the road accident. She was still lying in the hospital bed and did not show any response yet

Yesterday the doctor told Baekhyun that Eunji did not show any positive feed back. She suffered from several organs failure. If they insisted to keep her alive with all those medications and help from the machines, the only thing Eunji would feel was pain

 

Baekhyun understood. Although he was not prepared and never would be prepared, somehow he saw this coming

 

They wanted to take Eunji from him

 

But Baekhyun told them to hold back another one day. He convinced the doctor that Eunji might respond if they waited for another day

 

Yet that 24 hours had passed by and the results was the same. Eunji did not respond. Instead the graph kept on going down each minutes

 

Baekhyun finally put on his signature on the paper. He watched the doctor and two nurses went into Eunji's ICU ward. They unplugged the machines one by one

 

Baekhyun kept his hands inside his pocket while trying to not cry. Knowing that this was the last time he would see Eunji's face; breathing and alive, somehow killed him too

 

For Baekhyun, this is a sad ending that Eunji leaves first. But it's okay because now he loves his wife

 

At least it is a happy ending for you, Jung Eunji

Special update for fun! I have this plot line in my head since a few days ago so I cannot sit still. It has been bothering me a lot so I decide to portray it in one chapter
