The Woods
Description
“enchanted fairy
land upon my windowsill
oh thou mystical
tell me there’s another realm
proffer me escape”
-Jane Taylor. Escape
Foreword
Once again, the stars fell to dance along the ground, flashing just beyond the glass, begging for attention. I gave it eagerly as I ran, pressing myself against the cool surface of the window. There I just barely caught his tune for the night. I flung the thin barrier open and was swarmed immediately by fireflies, practically spelling out my exit. His melody grew louder as I knew it would. Frenzied by the rising tones, the now nearly strobing lights pushed me towards the outside, all I had to do was let go.
So I did, my bare feet squishing into the soft stems of grass. Without even a glance to the window far above me, I flew towards the distant tree-line, my pace matching his rhythm that hastened me along. I never knew exactly what would lie beyond that wall of green, but I did know that he would be there waiting for me. Swallowed by darkness, blinking bugs as my only guide, all that matters now is escape.
