カレッジ / university love stories
“Eunha! Eunha, wait!” Youngho dodged Hanbin as he chased after Eunha. How was that girl..so...damn... fast? His legs felt as though they were going to give way, sports was never his thing. But he didn’t care, the adrenaline that he felt upon seeing her was enough to carry him all the way across campus. He wasn’t letting her go this time.
The gap between them was getting smaller and smaller, until he was finally close enough to reach out and grab her wrist.
He really wasn’t letting her go this time, as he clung on to her wrist for dear life as he bent over, catching his breath.
Eunha stared in shock at the sight. He was really here. Seo Youngho, gasping for air, messed up hair and rumpled clothing. Yet he still looked good as ever. “Youngho…”
He stood up, straightening his suit and running a hand through his hair and flashing her a small smile. “It’s been a while hasn’t it? Would you like to grab a meal?”
Eunha raked her mind. What excuses could she come up with? She was stumped. This was all too mindblowing and her brain was not functioning properly. And she never was one to lie. Other than keeping Raeahn a secret from Youngho. If you counted that as a lie. More like… omitting the truth.
And so, there she was in a cafe sitting across from her first love. He sipped at his coffee while hers remained untouched. Five minutes had past, and not a word had been uttered. Youngho had been studying her face the entire time, she had only gotten more beautiful. But her face was stoic, her eyes having not met his even once.
He cleared his throat. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” She finally met his eyes and the corner of her lips turned up into a small smile, although it didn’t reach her eyes as she nodded. “Why did you run away from me?” Her eyes dropped from his as she gave a small shrug.
Youngho was patient, though. They hadn’t seen each other since their breakup. But still, their breakup was somewhat amicable wasn’t it? Had something happened to her since then? Sitting up in his seat straighter, he flashed her a bright smile. “What have you been up to?”
Eunha was now tracing small circles on her cup absentmindedly. “School,” she mumbled. “Taking care of Rae-” What? She straightened in her seat, stopping herself, her entire demeanor changing. “What have you been up to, Youngho?”
He blinked at her. “Rae? Who’s Rae?”
Speak of the devil. Just then, Hanbin walked into that same cafe with Raeahn in his arms. The door of the cafe jingled, and the pair looked up. Hanbin noticed them as well, raising his free arm in a wave.
“Eunha! Your parents had an emergency and asked you to take care of Raeahn…” his voice trailed off as he spotted Youngho. Youngho, on the other hand, looked confused. Who was that baby?
Howon stared intently at the television screen as his fingers spammed the game console. He wasn’t going to lose this game. He had all day, there was no way that Hyeri chick was actually going to show up-
His thoughts were interrupted by a loud banging knock at the door. He glanced at his watch, seven o’clock on the dot. No way, actually? He quickly glanced in the hallway mirror as he passed, turning around to run to the bathroom and grab some gel, running his hand through his hair. Just in case. Smoothing out his shirt, he approached the door and swung it upon.
“Oh hey thanks, I forgot my keys at home.” Minjun sauntered into the room with a playful grin, watching Howon glare at him in annoyance. “My bad, were you expecting someone else? And what’s with the hair?”
“Hey, you look good!” Hyeri peeked her head through the open door, blatantly looking Howon up and down. “Are you ready?”
Minjun snickered as he watched Howon not-so-discreetly run a hand through his hair to fix it again.. “Don’t keep him out too late,” he said with a wink to Hyeri as the two of them left.
As the door shut behind them, Hyeri grabbed his hand as they walked towards the elevator. Howon feigned a cough removing his hand from hers to cover his mouth. Hyeri tilted her head at him as she smirked. “What, too forward?” She grinned as she stepped in the elevator. Howon narrowed his eyes. What the heck?
They stood side by side in the elevator and stared at the floor numbers decreased. She turned to him. “So, you aren’t going to ask what we’re doing?” He shrugged. “I honestly could care less.” Which was true, kind of. He was a little curious what someone so direct and outspoken could have possibly planned.
The two exited the elevator and she looped her arm through his as they walked along the street. “It’s a surprise~~” she sang. He shook his arm free. A little clingy, wasn’t she?
“So we’re going to eat at this cute cafe I found, and then we can walk around the park, and if that’s too simple for you then next time we can go-”
Howon whirled around to stare at her incredulously. “Next time?!” Her face was genuinely confused as she nodded. His gaze from her fell as a girl walked past and he couldn’t resist the urge to check her out. Hyeri reached out and turned his face back to her. “Eyes over here, buddy.”
Okay, this chick was crazy. Too forward or crazy, was there a difference? It didn’t matter how hot she was. “Sorry, I forgot I promised my friend I would play him in League of Legends right now, I’ll call you a different time.”
Hyeri rolled her eyes. She wasn’t stupid. But she also didn’t give up. “I get it. You don’t want to date me. How about we just be friends?” Howon stared at her uncertainly. Her as a friend? No thanks. He opened his mouth to speak when she crossed her arms. “I bet I could destroy you and your friend in League any day.”
Okay, crazy and overconfident. He couldn’t resist a challenge though. He would win and go home back to his peaceful life. Easy. He pointed in the direction of a nearby PC bang. “You’re on.”
Minjun was chasing Jackson across the campus quad, laughing as Jackson made shameless incoherent noises. He had stolen Minjun’s phone and was giggling like a little kid as Minjun chased after him.
Having run around the entire perimeter, Jackson was getting tired and checked the time- OH . His class had started… five minutes ago. Turning around and seeing Minjun was not behind him, he scanned the scene.
He spotted Yijeong sitting comfortably on the campus lawn under the nice shade of a large tree with her headphones in, munching on some slices of fruit. Oh! Minjun’s campus rep buddy. Perfect. He ran up to her and stopped abruptly, huffing and puffing as Yijeong looked up in surprise. “Hi Yijeong!” “Bye Yijeong!” Before she could even utter a word he had placed a cell phone in front of her and dashed off. Puzzled, she picked it up and stared after him as she watched him dash past Minjun, who seemed to appear out of nowhere, yelling “YIJEONG HAS IT!!!”
This was Minjun’s phone? She held it in shock and before she knew it, Minjun was standing over her, a cute grin gracing his face as he held his hand out. God, she felt the blush spreading across her face already as she averted his gaze and placed the phone in his hand. “Hey.” He smoothed his clothes out and sat down next to her. A little too close. She felt her heart begin to race. Why did he always have this effect on her?
“You look cute today.” She looked up with wide eyes as he flashed that cute grin at her again and gestured towards her headphones. “Whatcha listening to?” Yijeong blinked. He talks like this to everyone. He doesn’t feel that way about you. She told herself internally before answering him. Before she could, a boy the grade below her approached her.
“Y-Yijeong sunbaenim?” He shyly asked her, averting contact. She nodded. He handed her a box of candy. “I just wanted to give this to you,” he mumbled. “My phone number is written on the top, please call me if you ever want to go eat sometime.”
She eyed the candy and nodded. This was a normal occurrence. But she wasn’t interested. There was only one person she was interested in…
Minjun snorted. Both the boy and Yijeong looked at him. “Oh sunbaenim… is this your boyfriend?” “No,” both Yijeong and Minjun responded at the same time. Minjun laid back on the lawn, resting an arm behind his head. Waving a lazy hand in Yijeong’s direction, he grinned amusedly. “Go ahead.”
The boy nodded, his confidence raising that he wasn’t competing with someone like Minjun. “Like I said sunbaenim. Give me a call.” Before Yijeong could say anything, he dashed off. She placed the box of candy in her bag. She could share this with Jinah later, the girl was obsessed with sweets.
“You get those a lot, huh?” Minjun asked her. Yijeong nodded. “Yeah, I do… I just feel bad that I can’t return the sentiment…”
Minjun shrugged. “Same here. It’s what comes with being good looking campus reps like us,” with a wink, he raised a fist up. “Campus rep buddies!” Yijeog halfheartedly returned his fist bump. Buddies. Yay. She really should get over this crush. Crushing on Minjun from afar was easy, but while constantly interacting with him? Torture.
Two empty coffee cups and an empty plate with only crumbs left sat between Hana and Jongin as the two struggled to catch their breath. They weren’t able to stop laughing for the past… two hours. This was about a story of a time Jongin had tried ask a girl out and ended up getting lectured by her mother for an hour. Bad timing, he called it.
“Okay, well that’s your fault for climbing up to her window and trying to sneak in… without knowing which window was hers!” Hana exclaimed.
“But out of all windows I climbed, it had to be her mom’s?” Jongin complained. Hana burst into a fit of giggles again.
“You know you and I are perfect for each other, right?” Jongin said. Hana nodded with a bright smile. “Yes. Just not in that way.” The two had figured this out one hour into their date, and spent the next hour talking about their failed love lives and why they were on dating apps. “Who knew your love life could be that unlucky?” she .
“And yours is…crazy. A member of Seventeen? My sister is OBSESSED with them.” Jongin said, his eyes widening. Hana shushed him. “Not so loud! And it’s not like it worked out anyway…” her voice trailed off as she began to think of Chan again… she missed him…
“Hey. Stop that! I see you getting sad. How about I introduce you to someone. He’s tall, good looking, thoughtful…”
“Are you trying to get me to like him or do you already have a crush on him?” Hana teased. Jongin glared at her. “Shut up, Hana.” He laid some money on the table and got up. “Come on!”
Confused, she got up. “Where are we going?” He grabbed her wrist and pulled her along. “To meet him, of course.” Hana stopped in her tracks.
“Wait, right now?”
Jongin grinned at her. “I mean, why not? You got all dolled up for our date which didn’t work out in that way. We can’t let that go to waste, can we?”
Hana blinked. “Uh… I don’t know, Jongin…” He pulled at her arm, dragging her outside of the cafe. She grabbed onto a bike rack outside. “NO! WAIT NO I’M NOT READY-”
Jongin pulled at her arm harder. God, this girl was strong. “Please Hana, you’ll love him I swear!”
Hana tightened her grip on the bike rack. No way. Not right now. She didn’t even know him, and the thought of Chan had begun to flood her mind again. “Jongin please I-”
He let go of her and crossed his arms. “Okay fine. How about… I give him your number? That’s how we started too, right? Not too bad, no face to face interaction, and you can decide if you want to meet him after that.
Hana thought about it. She guessed that couldn’t hurt. “Okay, fine.” Jongin grinned triumphantly, pumping a fist in the air. “Yes! Trust me, you’ll love Seokwoo.”
