6th.

Eunbi was working at the bookstore as usual when the bell dinged and in came Ms Grumpy looking grumpier than ever.  Instead of walking towards the book aisle, Ms Grumpy stormed towards Eunbi who was watching her every steps and her eyes getting wider with every steps Grumpy took. Grumpy was emitting some serious dark aura and Eunbi could only pray even though she wasn’t sure what she did wrong.

Not even pretending to be polite, Grumpy got straight to the point, “Why am i Grumpy?”

Eunbi knew what she meant but she was trying to act dumb, (seriously? Eunbi?) “Pardon?”

“Yesterday, at the beach when you were saving me from the ball, why did you call me Grumpy?”

“I think you must have mistaken me for someone else, sorry miss but I gotta go.” 

Barely taken her first step away from Grumpy, she was held back by her wrist, “YAH HWANG EUNBI! Just answer me!”

Eunbi was stunned paralysed that Grumpy actually remembered her. “I only told you my name once at the cafe and you still remember? Ok anyway, during the first time we met each other, you were having trouble reaching the book on the top shelf and you were whining alone and scrunching your face, and I thought you looked like Grumpy from The Snow White. I’m not insinuating that you are short! But that was my first impression of you! I’m sorry please don’t beat me!” Eunbi cowered in fear when she saw Grumpy’s face getting redder and redder by every sentences. She usually was a badass but she had no idea why she was so intimidated by this shortie in front of her.

After a few century long seconds… “I see.” 

“And I remember your name so clearly because I was surprised at first. We share the same name, I am Jung Eunbi. So call me that! I am not Grumpy”

“You are Eunbi too?!” Eunbi was excited, this was the first time she met someone who has the same name as her.

Grumpy, ah no, Jung Eunbi merely nodded and gave a sly smile before leaving. She wouldn’t show it, but she was bothered all night after being called Grumpy by the prettiest girl she has ever seen.

7th.

Eunbi was nervous and confused. Yesterday she wanted to run away when being trapped by Jung Eunbi, now she was trying to find her at the cafe she worked at. 

Indeed, Jung Eunbi was standing behind the counter serving a long line of customers. Eunbi decided to not join the crowd and sat down on one of the empty tables while waiting for the queue to die down. She was so immersed in her Harry Potter book until someone knocked on her table, pulling her out from her potterhead trance.

It was Ms Grumpy.

“Ms Hwang, are you planning to order something? You are not allowed to use the table if you are not a customer.” Eunbi looked around to find the queue is no longer existing and she grinned at Grumpy, “Ah yes! I’m gonna order!” She stood up but started laughing suddenly. 

Grumpy squinted her eyes at Eunbi, this girl was acting too weird and maybe she should stay away from her before she attracted attention.  

“Ah I am sorry. It’s just… this is the first time I observed our height, I am taller than you by almost half a head and I am not even counted as tall!” 

Deeply, truly, seriously offended. Grumpy stomp on Eunbi’s foot and gave a fake smile before walking away. Her bob hair swaying left and right due to her angry pace.

8th.

Eunbi knew she screwed up. However, as much as she felt bad, she couldn’t help but snickered every time she thought of Grumpy’s height beside her. Grumpy shouldn’t have taken so much of her time spent thinking of her but ever since she saw Grumpy clapping for her and her dance crew, she wanted Grumpy to be proud of her and her only. She wanted Grumpy to smile at her every day. Unknowingly, Eunbi began to think of Grumpy almost every day.

Will she be coming to the bookstore today?

Will I bump into her today?
Should I go back to the cafe to see her today?

Does she remember me?

Maybe they are wrong when they say you only fall in love after the 10 smiles, maybe all it takes is  just one smile.

Trying her luck once again, Eunbi braved up and went to the cafe trying to find Grumpy to make up for yesterday. Not sure if it was a good thing or not, but Grumpy was indeed working that day. There was no crowd that day as Eunbi made sure to visit at non-peak hour, so she could talk to Grumpy without distraction.

“H-Hi.” Eunbi gave a small smile and wave at Grumpy, who was staring daggers at her.

“What do you want?” 

Eunbi gulped.

“I-I just want to apologise for yesterday. That was rude and offensive, please forgive me?” Eunbi pulled out a red rose and hoped it will make her apology look more sincere. She really did not like Grumpy staying mad at her.

Grumpy glare softened at the appearance of the rose and she was contemplating whether she should forgive Eunbi because she is not short! Her height did not deserve to be laughed at! However, she could not resist Eunbi’s sad puppy face seeking for forgiveness so she caved in. 

Giving Eunbi her sweetest smile, she accepted the rose and asked, “Alright, I will forgive you because you are cute. Choose a drink and I will make it for you for free, as peace offering.”

Eunbi swore she could fly the moment she was forgiven, excitedly nodding her head like a puppy, she picked her favourite drink and waited patiently for Grumpy to finish making. While admiring Grumpy’s concentrated face on making her a drink, Eunbi blurted out, “So are we friends now? Can I have your number?”

Grumpy almost dropped the drink but quickly composed herself. “Sure, I guess.” Grumpy read out her number and Eunbi keyed in at lightning speed and promised to drop her a text after that so she will have her number too.

Although unwilling to leave yet, it’s almost time for Eunbi’s part time work at the bookstore to start so she tore herself away from the counter and bid goodbye to her new cute friend.

While on her way to work, she sent a text message to Grumpy, 

[HwangBeagle] Yo! This is Hwang Eunbi, now you have my number. Call me if ever you need someone to hang out with. Thanks for the drink!
