9th.

Eunbi paced back and forth around in her room meanwhile Grumpy was plucking the petals from the rose she gotten this afternoon.

To call…

Not to call…

Last petal. To call…

Swallowing the invisible lump in , Grumpy gathered up her courage. If Eunbi had done the same by apologising and asking to be friends with her, surely she could try and make the same effort. Pressing the ‘dial’ button, she waited for the receiver to pick up…

Eunbi: Hey! Wassup yo

Grumpy: …Do you normally answer your calls like that? Now I am thinking twice about being your friend.

Eunbi: WHAT NO. It’s just… this is the first time you called me… I was nervous and trying to act normal ok… It just somehow didn’t come out the way I wanted it to be.

Grumpy: I’m just teasing you. Say, are you free right now? I am hungry and I wanna eat pizza. The one near where I work has really good pizza, you on for it?

Eunbi: Oh my god. I know that one, it’s near where I live too. Ok, see you there in 30 minutes? 

Grumpy: Yay! See ya!

After hanging the call, 2eunbis went into an anxious but over the moon mode. Both of them started jumping up and down and punching the air while having the widest grins on their faces. They call it THE 2eunbi synchronisation. 

Immediately picking a few clothes, both didn’t want to overdress but didn’t want to underdress neither. What is the best outfit for a pizza date? If that’s even counted as a date. A question both were dying to ask but were afraid to. 

Hwang Eunbi settled for a pair of jeans, white shirt, leather jacket and high cut Converse sneakers.

Jung Eunbi settled for short denim pants, black oversized sweater and white Nike sneakers.

Both Eunbis were early, but Hwang was earlier. She looked up right on time to see Jung walking towards her with a shy smile, as if it was their first time meeting each other.

They hit it off as soon as they sat down in the cafe and much to the surprise of both of them, they started talking as if they have known each other their whole lives. Shy smiles have evolved into unattractive laughters (that’s mainly your fault, Hwang). They were chatting without any awkward silence and they enjoyed each others’ company so much that they didn’t want to part ways.

(hwang) Eunbi thought her house was near, but turned out, (jung) Eunbi’s house was even nearer! It was even within walking distance! Hence, Hwang offered to walk Jung home. 

Grumpy: Hey, I have never heard you called me Eunbi before. What did you save me as in your phone contact?

Eunbi: Oh…ah…hmmmm….uh……………. Grumpy.

Grumpy: .

Eunbi: It’s a cute name, I like it a lot.

Grumpy: I don’t like it a lot.

Eunbi: It’s weird calling you Eunbi when I am Eunbi. Do you have any nickname?

Grumpy: Yeah, I do. But I want you to make one for me, just for you to call me that only. No grumpy!

Eunbi: Ok… Give me some time to think about it. I want to give you one with a special meaning.

As if on cue, they reached Grumpy’s doorstep and it was time to bid goodbye. 

Grumpy: Thanks for walking me home… and eating with me even though I called you so suddenly.

Eunbi: Please, call me anytime you want. If I am free, I will be there. All right, rest well. Goodnight!

Grumpy: Goodnight…

Eunbi waited… and waited… and there it is! Grumpy’s smile before she turned around and walked into her house.

One hour later, when Eunbi reached her own house too, Grumpy called her again.

Eunbi: Hello?

Grumpy: Oh thank god it’s a normal greeting this time. I just wanted to make sure you are home safely.

Eunbi: O-oh. Y-yeah I am. Thanks for checking on me.

Grumpy: hehehehe all right, goodnight ~

Eunbi was unable to reply and Grumpy already hung up the call. Her heart wouldn’t stop beating so fast the moment she heard Grumpy’s giggles. She thought she loved Grumpy’s smiles but boy when she giggled right into her ears, she was sure nothing in this world could sound better than that.

Eunbi was in so deep she had no chance of escaping the Grumpy’s webs.

10th.

Days passed, months passed. Eunbis’ bond only got stronger and stronger. They both knew they had a chemistry between both of them but always second guessing themselves. Uncertainty and what-ifs filled their minds every night until one of them snapped.

Although Eunbi appeared to be the confident and out-going one, she was secretly an insecure kid who had really low confidence. However, compared to her self-doubts, her feelings for Grumpy were threatening the burst through her heart and mind. She couldn’t live a day longer without knowing if Grumpy feels the same.

So she called Grumpy to meet her at the park that afternoon. 

“Hey… Remember when I told you to give me some time to come up with a special nickname for you? I have it now, let me know if you like it.”

“Really?! What is it?!”

deep breaths, here we go.

“Would you be MY grumpy?”

“…”

“…”

“Are you telling me to be yours or are you just trying to call me grumpy?”

“I-i am telling you to be mine… and also calling you Grumpy, I still like that nickname a lot.”

“I don’t hate that nickname now… if you add the word ‘my’ in front of it…”

“Wait… This is confusing… Are you saying yes, you will be mine?”

“That’s exactly what I am saying, you stupid!”

“HAHAHAHAHAHA YEAH”

Eunbi grabbed HER grumpy and pulled her into a tight hug, suffocating Grumpy with her overflowing love while laughing unattractively. She felt like she was walking on air, with the woman she loves in her arms and her soft giggles filling her ears.

Pulling away from the hug, Eunbi leaned in to give Grumpy a kiss on the lips. When they parted, the smile that Grumpy gave Eunbi was simply indescribable… 

Maybe it is indeed true that you only truly falls in love after the 10th smiles. Before that was all child’s play, but that smile is what that is going to keep you trapped forever. In love.

A/N: and this marks the end of my fic, i am personally quite satisfied with the flow of this story. If you notice, you can see their interactions getting longer with each smile, signifying the growth of their relationship as days passed. and i tried to add an adjective to describe each eunha's smiles that she gave sinb, but i purposely did not do that for the last one as nothing would justify the special smile.
