Foreword

The clouds turned darker and darker with each minute. You could hear the first thunder from far away. It shouldn’t take too long until the first raindrops would fall down. She stopped running for a moment and looked up at the grey sky and felt a single raindrop falling on her cheek. Luckily she was wearing a hoodie so she was able to save her head from the rain that could start any minute. Without hesitating she started running again. Late for class again but still trying to get a hot cup of tea at Starbucks, that was one of the few things that made her happy. A cup of tea makes everything better, at least that’s what her dad had always told her when she was younger. Just a few more steps left and she saw the familiar green sign of the coffee shop. She put her hood down while entering the shop and waited in line to be served.

„Yes, I know what I promised and I’m already on my way.“ With his phone pressed on his ear he was walking really fast down the street. „Yes, I still remember your orders.“ He rolled his eyes. First he overslept, then one of his friend called to remind him of his meeting and then on top of that he could not get his car to start. It seemed like the whole world turned against him today. Even the weather seemed like it was playing little games with him. Dark clouds in the sky and just now he felt a few teardrops on his skin. „Ok, I have to hang up now. See you in a few minutes.“ He pushed the red button on his phone and sighed. Seriously, sometimes he just wanted to stay in bed forever. Especially on dark and cold days like today. He let his phone slip in the pocket of his jeans and speeded up his walking. He was almost at the Starbucks shop when his phone vibrated and he pulled it out again.

„One green tea for the young lady.“ The guy behind the counter gave her her order. With a short „Thanks.“ she took the cup away from him and put one of those heat protectors around it. The guy was irritated at first but then shrugged and got back to his work. She took a glimpse at her phone and realized that class would begin in 5 minutes.

„Hot chocolate with extra cream! And don’t forget our meeting in 5 minutes! Hurry up!“ He read the message while walking and rolled his eyes again. Why was his friend always so annoying? He started to type an answer.

„Oh, .“ With the cup in one hand and her phone in the other hand she started to type a message to her friend that she would come later to class. After she sent the message she put the phone back in her pocket and left the coffee shop.

A thunder was heard together with her screaming when the hot water of the tea ran over her arm. She let the cup fall on the ground and fell on her knees. The person she bumped into immediately bent down. „Oh my god, I’m so sorry. Are you ok?“ She heard the deep voice but was still distracted from the burning pain on her arm and was only able to shake her head a little bit. „Let me take a look at your arm.“ The person tried to grab her arm but she pulled it away. „It’s ok, don’t worry.“ She managed to stand up while holding her arm with the other hand. When she looked up she looked into the darkest brown eyes she had ever seen. „Are you sure? Just show me your arm.“ He tried to grab her arm again but she went a step back. He shouldn’t see her arm. Just the thought of another person seeing this was freaking her out. „It’s none of your business and everything is ok.“ He gave her an unsatisfied look. „Yeah, right and that’s why you still have tears in your eyes.“ He mumbled and she just shook her head. What was this guy’s problem? When she bent down to pick up the empty cup he did the same, grabbed her arm and rolled up her sleeve. She tried to pull it away but it was too late. The look in his eyes when he saw the white and red scars on her arm said everything. He was too distracted to react when she quickly pulled her arm away, rolled her sleeve down and started to run.

He turned his head into the direction she ran away. What has happened just now? Who was this girl and what happened to her that she did those things to her body? When he stood up he noticed a little book on the ground. He picked it up, opened the first page and then a little smile came across his face. „Yuna.“ He whispered and looked up at the sky and saw a little sunshine breaking through the grey clouds.
