Translation: I love you

Translation, I love you

A/N: Thank you all so much for the reviews the previous chapter, I think for this final chapter I’ll write in third person as it could be better doing it that way, and not so much back and forth with both their povs. I hope so anyway, well let’s pick up right where we left off, and please enjoy the last chapter :)

The dark-haired woman stands there and tries to compose herself before speaking. She’s just heard the only person she’s ever loved tell her that she hates her, how can she not react physically to that. Joohyun knows she can’t blame Seulgi for feeling this way, if she does truly feel that way. At the same time it does hurt to hear such words. Joohyun always imagined how difficult it would be when she came face to face with the monolid girl, but wasn’t fully prepared for this.

“But maybe I deserve it.” Joohyun thinks. She did after all dump Seulgi after a long time of being together, without any real explanation or warning. She deserves to have the woman she loves hate her, no? She takes a deep breath to gather her thoughts. Joohyun has to be calm here, and do her best to not upset Seulgi further.

“I’m…”

“I don’t want to hear sorry.” Seulgi cuts her off. The blonde’s voice comes out strong, but it does nothing to hide how upset and hurt she really is. Joohyun knows Seulgi very well. She knows her better than anyone, and she can see how it’s taking everything in Seulgi to not cry there. All Joohyun wants to do is wipe her tears this time and make everything okay again. She just needs a chance to make it right with her.

“Seul, I…”

Seulgi zones out for a moment. This is the last thing she needed or wanted, running into Joohyun. She didn’t even know what came over her truly, all of her feelings of anger, disappointment, pain, and her love for Joohyun all warring with one another inside of her creating this perfect storm. All she could do was utter the first words that came to mind. She doesn’t hate Joohyun, not really. Seulgi is hurt and angry but she loves Bae Joohyun very much, and doesn’t see that changing.

“Joohyun?” Seulgi sighs. “I don’t think this is the time or place to be having any conversation.”

As much as Joohyun wants to talk to her. The older woman knows that Seulgi isn’t wrong. They really shouldn’t be standing here to have any important conversation. They should do this somewhere else where they can have privacy and talk it all out.

“I understand.” Joohyun nods. “I really do want the chance to at least talk to you, would it be okay if we found the time to meet? You can come over to my place and we can talk, or wherever you’re comfortable.”

Seulgi isn’t sure she’ll ever be comfortable. She isn’t sure she can handle talking to her at all, if she were being honest. At the same time, the monolid girl has been hearing everyone. She might not have reacted in the best of ways, but Seulgi always heard everyone when they spoke to her. Perhaps, she does need some form of closure. There was never any explanation, all Joohyun did was break her heart without a reason. Seulgi knows in order to start her own healing process, whatever form that takes, she has to talk to her.

“What day.” Seulgi decides. She needs to do this, whether she wants to or not.

Joohyun looks surprised when Seulgi agrees. The older girl wasn’t expecting for Seulgi to agree. She did expect more resistance, because even now the blonde looks uncomfortable by the fact that they are standing within reach of one another. Not that Joohyun blames her. She doesn’t blame Seulgi at all for any of what she feels, this is her doing.

“Can you come on Wednesday? I want to talk to you very badly, but I don’t want you to feel pressured either. Is around six alright?”

Seulgi luckily doesn’t have anything to do on a Wednesday evening, and it gives her enough time to fully formulate her thoughts. She agrees to meeting on Wednesday and says no more before starting to walk off.

“Wait.” Joohyun calls out.

Seulgi stops to look at her.

“I know you don’t want to hear this right now, but I am sorry, Seul. I am so very sorry for what I did to you and to us. I’ll be able to talk to you more on Wednesday, but whatever you think about me now, you must know how much I love you still, I never stopped.”

Seulgi looks at her with an unreadable expression. She didn’t want to hear it, not now. It’s why she can’t bring herself to comment back to what Joohyun just said to her.

“Goodbye, Joohyun. I’ll see you Wednesday.”

Joohyun can only nod sadly. She doesn’t try to call out to Seulgi again. She’s been able to see her for herself and talk to her for a little while, and that’s more than she could have hoped for considering everything. Joohyun can see Jisoo rejoining her so that they can walk off together. The dark-haired woman can’t help that she is hurt by this. She occasionally still checks up on Seulgi online and still her relationship status says single. At the same time, there has to be something going on with this other girl, no? Something special enough, and whatever it is, Joohyun can’t help to feel affected. Because, there is no one else for her. She has only been in love with Seulgi for the entire time. The raven sighs and turns to go home.

“You’ll be able to talk to her on Wednesday, Joohyun.” She tells herself. Somehow, things have to be alright again. Joohyun can’t imagine her life without Kang Seulgi in it, and she’ll do whatever she must to make things right between them, no matter how long it takes.

Meanwhile, Jisoo doesn’t try to talk to Seulgi. She knows in this moment there is little talking can do to help her friend. She wishes Seulgi wasn’t hurting this much right now, but in truth she does need to properly deal with her ex-girlfriend and those painful feelings. Before the two friends split up, the blonde turned to her with a brave smile. Jisoo always hated when she smiled bravely whenever she was hiding how hurt she actually is. She can’t imagine truly how difficult that brief encounter was for Seulgi, but she knows none of that could have been easy.

“If you need to talk at all, you know I’m here.” Jisoo is able to tell her.

“Thanks, I’m fine. I’m not angry at you, Jichu, I know you were only trying to help back there.” Seulgi tells the purple-haired girl, since she knows that Jisoo probably felt badly about simply leaving her to deal with Joohyun that way.

“I didn’t do it hurt you, Seul. I really was only trying to help.”

“I know, thanks. I’ll talk to you soon, alright. Thanks for suggesting the art exhibit it was a fun day for the most part.”

“You’re welcome, Seulgi. Let me know if you need anything.”

The friends share a hug goodbye and go about their separate ways. Seulgi makes her way to her apartment and tries her hardest not to start crying. She is overwhelmed with many different emotions all at once. She feels her anger, pain, sadness, shock at seeing Joohyun again. She feels it all and it does finally hit her, the moment she steps through the door of her apartment is when Seulgi breaks down. The blonde sits down on the floor and sobs. She cries like she did the day Joohyun broke up with her, as everything comes rushing to the surface. She cries like she hadn’t allowed herself to in a long time. The tears keep falling down one after the next to the point Seulgi doesn’t even try to stop them anymore. Her chest begins to hurt so badly from her heavy sobs that it becomes almost too difficult to breathe.

“W-Why…”

Why did she have to run into Joohyun now? Why did she have to talk to her, even if it was only for a few moments? Why did Bae Joohyun have to break her heart into tiny little pieces that are still broken? Why does she still have to be so in love with Joohyun? She has no answers for any of those questions. The only thing she knows is whether she’s ready or not she will be facing Joohyun on Wednesday. They will talk about everything and get it all out in the open.

“I don’t think I’m ready for it.”

Seulgi gets up after she’s finished crying and the first thing she does is sink into the covers of her bed. She will muster up enough strength to deal with tomorrow and the following days as they come. She’ll need all the strength she can get when it comes to talking to Joohyun again, and it’s the same for Joohyun in ways too, but different as well. The raven needs a certain kind of strength to get through their conversation because knows it will probably be one of the hardest things either of them will have to do. She also has to finally come face to face with how deeply she has hurt Seulgi, and it always hurt her whenever Seulgi was in any sort of pain. It makes her feel even worse that the reason why the monolid girl is in any distress is because of her.

“We’ll be able to get through this, Seulgi and I belong together.”

They do belong together, right? Of course, they do. Seulgi is the one person she’s supposed to be with. Joohyun knows that for a fact and has to remind Seulgi of it too. It will be worth the risk of giving her another chance, because Joohyun has no intention of every breaking her heart again. They had plans once, they used to speak about their future often. One that looked like getting married, living the rest of their lives together as partners, like they should be. Joohyun can still remember one of their many discussions that took place right here at her apartment.

(Flashback)

They’ve just made love and are laying in Joohyun’s bed. Joohyun always prefers to be as close to her teddy-bear like girlfriend as possible. She’s a normally affectionate person to begin with, but right after they’ve been together. Joohyun becomes even more physically affectionate, to which Seulgi didn’t really think was possible. Not that she minds the cuddling, touching, hugging, or extra kisses. Seulgi likes that they are so close under the warm purple comforter of her bed. Joohyun loves snuggling up close to her other half. She loves that she can reach for her and feel that warm slightly larger hand in her own. Joohyun loves everything about Kang Seulgi, and everything about their relationship.

“You’ve been kissing me for the last hour or so, did you know that?” Seulgi teases as Joohyun leans in for another kiss.

“Are you complaining?” Joohyun laughs. “I thought you liked my kisses.”

“I love your kisses, Hyun.”

“Good, otherwise my feelings will be hurt.” Joohyun settles down next to her and Seulgi wraps an arm around her. The older woman leans back against her and they lay in silence for a moment until Joohyun asks her a question.

“Hey, when you think about our future, what do you think of?” The raven asks and turns back enough so she’s looking at the monolid woman behind her. Seulgi is quiet for a moment as she ponders the question. She thinks about Joohyun and their future a lot. She always thinks about where they will be in the next five years, or even sometimes she thinks beyond that.

“I think about spending the rest of my life with you, Bae Joohyun.”

The older woman is smiling so brightly that it makes Seulgi smile too. Joohyun smiles because she thinks about the same thing. She thinks about always being together with Kang Seulgi. She thinks about a future where they are married, partners, and spending the rest of their lives together. Joohyun leans forward, placing her forehead onto Seulgi’s in a soft touch.

“I think about spending the rest of my life with you too, Kang Seulgi.”

(End)

There were several conversations like that during their relationship. Joohyun holds onto hope that they will one day get married and spend the rest of their lives together. It won’t be easy getting things back on track. She did after all, break this amazing, kind, and wonderful woman’s heart, even though she never meant to cause her pain. Joohyun didn’t even have a good reason at the time for what she did. There’s still no good reason she can offer to Seulgi know when she does ask. But, she will be honest and truthful no matter what. They both need to be honest and truthful, no matter how much it will hurt.

“A few more days.”

Joohyun does get the chance to meet with Seungwan, Joy, and Yerim before she meets with Seulgi. The three girls already know the entire situation. They know how she has run into Seulgi and they are planning to meet soon. Joohyun can tell how they’re still trying their best to deal with the awkwardness. She knows nothing about her breakup with Seulgi has been easy on their closest friends. But she appreciates how no matter what the three of them try their best to be there for both of them. No one has really taken sides, not that she or Seulgi had asked them to.

“Hey, Joohyun.” Joy speaks. “Seulgi also told us that you’re going to meet and talk. We do hope it goes well, even though it’s been a difficult time for all of us. You two are the ones who really need to talk, and it was your breakup.”

“We do hope you’ll both be alright.” Yerim nods. “No matter what happens, Joohyun, you and Seulgi are both our friends, and we care about you both.”

“Thank you, guys.” Joohyun thanks the two younger girls. Everyone notices how Seungwan hasn’t really said much and seems to be focused on her phone. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if she’s texting with Seulgi right now. They are really close best-friends, and Seungwan has had the most contact with the monolid girl out of anyone else. Seungwan also knows how difficult the breakup has been on Seulgi, no matter how she likes to act un-hurt.

“Joohyun, I know that you still love Seul, I’m sure that she loves you too, even if she’s hurt now. But, please don’t be upset with me if I think that you two probably shouldn’t get back together, at least not right this moment. You both really need to talk and just heal.”

Joohyun hears what Seungwan is saying, and she does understand why the younger woman is concerned. She’s only trying to look out for herself and Seulgi, and Joohyun isn’t upset at anyone for expressing an opinion. At the end of the day the two people making decisions moving forward will be Seulgi and herself. She still appreciates how much their friends care about them.

“I’m not upset, Seungwan. You’re only being honest and I appreciate that. I’m sure you’re worried I might hurt Seulgi again, I’m sure all of you are.”

No one says anything to that, but the looks on their faces is all she needs to know that’s clearly one of the other concerns. She did break up with Seulgi after all, and this entire mess is her fault.

“We don’t want anyone to get hurt.” is the neutral answer, again they’re trying to not choose sides. Joohyun knows they probably would have said something different if they could.

“All I can tell you guys is that I love Seul. I want to be with her, no matter how long it takes to fix the damage I’ve done, and that’s really all I can say. Seulgi is the one that needs to hear everything I have to tell her.”

Joohyun leaves it at that, and no one says anymore. They simply wish her good luck and everyone is soon going their separate ways. It’s going to be Wednesday soon and Joohyun is hopeful that Seulgi will still come to talk. She still doesn’t have her number or any way to contact Seulgi, so the only way she’ll know for sure is on the day.

“I hope you’ll still come, Seul. I really want to be able to talk to you.” Joohyun sighs and heads home. She has to prepare herself for their talk, and she’s not the only one. Seulgi sits at home in the middle of trying to draw again, but stops midway because once again she realizes she’s drawing Joohyun. The monolid woman sighs and throws away the paper. Drawing is usually a relaxing thing for her and she was hoping it would ease her mind. But nothing really has eased her mind, and these last few days have been quite stressful for her. All Seulgi has been able to think about is how she’s expected to have a conversation with Joohyun. Everyone has given her various advice, but most of all they want her to be alright again.

“Just tell Joohyun whatever you need to, Seulgi.” Joy had told her. “Be honest no matter how much it hurts, because you need to start healing properly.”

“No matter what happens, Seulgi. It’s important that you and Joohyun talk honestly, we do want you both to be okay again.” Yerim had mentioned to her.

“Seul, you’re my best friend and I know you won’t be fine until you talk to Joohyun and get it all out. No matter what, you’ll always have us to support you. We want you to start healing.” Seungwan as usual was supportive. Seulgi appreciated everyone for their advice and support. The blonde knows no matter what it won’t be an easy conversation, and no matter of preparation will be enough. Seulgi supposes it’s one of those things were you have to face it head on, and deal with everything as it happens. The monolid woman is putting away her art supplies when she’s getting a text from Jisoo, it’s another helpful form of encouragement.

“You can do this, Seul. I know it probably seems impossible but you can talk to her, and heal, no matter what that means. You’ll always have me as your friend, and I’m hoping for the best.”

“Thanks, Jichu.” She thinks before sending back a proper thank you in a text. Jisoo really has been invaluable to her during what has been a most difficult time. She’s been an amazing friend and someone who she knows she’ll always be able to count on. Seulgi has no idea where she would have been without such good friends in Joy, Yerim, Seungwan, and Jisoo. She doesn’t even want to think about it, because she was in such a miserable state when Joohyun broke up with her. She’s not fully healed, but things have been better than they would have been if she had no one.

“Okay,” Seulgi sighs. “I’ll be ready to have this talk because I need to. We both need to have the chance to hear the other out.” and with that it’s all Seulgi needs to let go of any extra anxiety she’s feeling. She can and will meet with Joohyun, as it’s something that has needed to happen for a while now. She doesn’t know what will happen, but she does hope to one day feel okay again. She wants to feel okay more than anything else, even if her heart hasn’t stopped beating for one Bae Joohyun.

“It’s almost Wednesday.”

The days leading up to Wednesday felt both agonizingly slow and yet it also went by incredibly fast as well. Joohyun appeared calm on the outside as she moved about her apartment to make sure everything would be comfortable for Seulgi. They weren’t on some regular meeting, but in her nervousness she made food anyway, just in case. Also, she can’t help to make food since she would normally do so for Seulgi when she was her girlfriend, and maybe it would ease some tension if there was. She made sure that she had some of Seulgi's favorite drinks too.

“I’m acting like I’m meeting my girlfriend for lunch.” She thinks, and has to correct the girlfriend part. It’s too easy to still think of Seulgi as her girlfriend, even though she isn’t any longer. In her heart and mind, Kang Seulgi is still her girlfriend. The time is getting closer to six, and as it does Joohyun’s nervousness comes back in full. She is worried about the possibility of Seulgi not showing up, which means she might not ever have the chance to talk to her. The dark-haired woman tries not to think about that happening and waits.

“What if she forgot the way…”

It’s not likely that Seulgi would simply forget the way to her apartment. They were together a long time, so now she’s just making up things to feel worried about. Joohyun feels her heart racing as she looks at her phone.

5: 50 pm

It’s not six yet, and Seulgi still has time to get here. Joohyun nearly texts their friends to ask Seulgi if she’ll still come here, only there’s knocking at her front door that both relieves and fuels her nerves. Seulgi must be here and now she has to get up and greet her. Joohyun takes a deep breath and heads for the door. Meanwhile, on the other side of the door stands the monolid woman. Seulgi takes a deep breath too as her heart feels like it’s racing. The day has finally arrived and any moment Joohyun will come to the door. For a split second, Seulgi considers leaving but only for a moment. She doesn’t have time anyway, as Joohyun opens the door and they come face to face.

It still feels strange for Seulgi seeing Joohyun, when once upon a time she loved seeing her. She was excited just from the thoughts of being with her girlfriend.

“No, not girlfriend anymore.” Seulgi tells herself. Although, for so long Joohyun was her girlfriend, sometimes it’s easy to slip into the thoughts of when Joohyun was her girlfriend, and when things made sense. Joohyun doesn’t even hide her relief at the fact Seulgi is here. She smiles brightly and almost gives her a hug, one out of habit, and also because she has missed being able to hug Seulgi. Joohyun catches the look on the blonde’s face and it stops her.

“No, I can’t do that anymore, not right now.” Joohyun stops. She can’t do a lot of the things she once used to. Things that seemed so simple, like calling her on the phone, or following her on social media, and certainly not wrap her arms around the monolid woman for a hug.

“Hi, I’m glad you came.” is what Joohyun is able to say.

Seulgi nods. “We need to talk, Joohyun, I can’t avoid it forever.”

“Yes, we do need to talk. Please come in, alright.”

The dark-haired woman moves aside to allow Seulgi inside. The blonde notices that not much has changed. Joohyun still has the same set up in her living room. The same furniture, television, and same purple curtains. Then why should anything have changed outside of the fact they are no longer together. Seulgi smells food too, and that means Joohyun has probably just finished making something. It’s like Joohyun to be hospitable and thoughtful. Seulgi tries not to think about her familiar this all feels, because it shouldn’t feel so familiar. This is also the same woman who broke her heart too, and Seulgi can’t simply forget about it.

“I made food, I realize we’re not meeting for lunch or anything. But I made it in case, you might be hungry or….” Joohyun takes note of how thin Seulgi looks. The monolid woman was always rather slim but fit. Now it appears more slim from the fact she isn’t eating properly. It pains Joohyun to think about Seulgi not taking care of herself.

“No, I’m not hungry. Let’s sit and talk, okay.”

“Okay, well if you change your mind, Seul.”

She accidentally calls her Seul and if Seulgi appears bothered by it. The blonde doesn’t appear to be. They sit in the living room on opposite couches. Seulgi doesn’t speak for a moment as she tries to gather her thoughts. She wants to be careful what she says as her intention is not to hurt Joohyun, even if she has been hurt by the woman she still is very much in love with. Seulgi isn’t trying to hurt her back, but she does know she needs to be honest and truthful.

“I need to say something first.”

“Sure,” Joohyun nods. “Please say whatever you need, I’m sure you have a lot you need to tell me.”

Seulgi takes another moment to think about what she wants to start with, and it becomes clear.

“I don’t hate you, Joohyun. I’m sorry for saying it to you the other day, but I don’t hate you. I was angry, hurt, and shocked to see you. There was a lot going on that the first words that came out of my mouth were those, and I’m sorry. I don’t hate you.” Seulgi repeats.

Joohyun feels incredibly relieved to hear that Seulgi doesn’t truly hate her. She needed to hear those words from the younger woman herself, because it puts her mind at ease. Seulgi is at the end of the day one of the most kind, warm, and wonderful people she has ever known. Joohyun is thankful that Seulgi doesn’t hate her, even if she had, Joohyun wouldn’t have blamed her.

“You have no idea how relieved I am to know you don’t hate me. I did cause you so much pain, and I wouldn’t have blamed you if somehow you did hate me. I hurt you and us as well.”

Now, that Seulgi has gotten that off her chest. She knows there has to be much more conversation. She needs more than that. Seulgi needs answers as to why Joohyun did this. She needs to understand why after so long of being together, did Joohyun randomly decide to end their relationship. Seulgi can’t leave her until it makes sense.

“That’s not good enough, Joohyun. I need you to tell me why you did what you did. I need to understand because it just makes no sense. Was there something I had done, or not done? Was I not a good girlfriend? I just…” Seulgi stops. She has done enough crying for months. She can’t cry right now.

Joohyun hates how Seulgi thinks it’s her fault. None of this is her fault, and Joohyun wishes she could hug her now. She wants to because in no way should Seulgi ever blame herself or wonder about how good a girlfriend she was. Kang Seulgi was the best girlfriend, friend, and everything to her. Seulgi the sweet and warm girl who cared so much for others. Seulgi who would constantly compliment her, and make her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. Seulgi who with one look or touch could calm her down and ease any fear. The same Kang Seulgi she still loves so very much.

“No, it wasn’t because of you, Seul. You are the most amazing and wonderful person I know. I didn’t break up with you because of anything that you did, because you didn’t do anything but love me. I’m so very sorry I wish I had a good reason that could make sense, I guess I got scared.”

“Scared?” Seulgi whispers. Joohyun is right, it’s not a good enough reason. Joohyun broke up with her for nothing it seems, and Seulgi isn’t sure which is worse, this, or if there had been a more valid reason. She feels angry again but for another reason entirely.

“You don’t even have a reason for breaking up with me.”

“Seul, I’m sorry…”

“You don’t have a reason.” Seulgi repeats in what sounds like disbelief. All those nights she spent in bed, miserable, and crying because the only person she had ever loved broke her heart. There were times Seulgi didn’t think she would recover at all, and only to find out it was for no reason.

“I think I panicked, and got scared, but not because I don’t love you. I love you very much Seul. I was thinking too much about us, and how we’ve only been each other’s really serious relationship. I started getting scared about the future and wondering too much about things I didn’t even need to worry about. I know I love you and I should have just trusted in that.”

Seulgi can understand somewhat. She does hear where Joohyun is coming from in a way. They have been one another’s most serious and important relationship, and there could be the fear of things not working out. Still, that should have been something they discussed as a couple. Joohyun didn’t have to take it upon herself to make such a drastic decision that affected their lives.

“I wish you would have just come to me and said that, Joohyun. We could have talked and worked everything out, anything but you deciding it was best to break up with me. You really broke my heart, you know. I can’t even tell you how much pain I was in, and still am in.”

Joohyun in that moment doesn’t even care if she shouldn’t be hugging Seulgi. She needs to hug her. She must hug her, because it’s been too long since she could, and Joohyun wants to try and comfort Seulgi.

“I’m so sorry.” Joohyun hurries to where she’s sitting and hugged her. Seulgi remains frozen in the embrace for a long moment until she hears what sounds like tears. The fact that Joohyun is crying surprises and hurts her at the same time. The monolid woman slowly returns the hug.

“I never meant to hurt you…” She says through tears. “I wish I had done things differently, Seulgi. I love you so much and I just want to do everything I can to fix this, I’ve never stopped loving or thinking about you during this whole time we’ve been apart. I know I messed up, but I’m hoping it’s not too late to try to make it better.”

Seulgi has no words for a moment. She doesn’t know what to say, even though she feels that Joohyun is sincere. Everyone makes mistakes, no? People do deserve second chances in life, and Joohyun was never a bad person to begin with. It wouldn’t be impossible to try to rebuild their relationship, with time? Seulgi slowly lets go of her.

“I accept your apology, Joohyun.”

“Thank you.” She whispers and looks up at her. “Do you also believe that I still love you, that I never stopped. I can’t just turn my feelings off for you.”

Seulgi couldn’t turn her feelings off either. You don’t spend that much time in a relationship with someone, loving them, and only them to automatically shut off your feelings. They are not machines trained to obey on command. Seulgi loves her as well.

“I believe you.”

“Good,” Joohyun whispers. “I was worried that you probably lost all faith in me. I know it’ll take a lot of time and work, but I’m not afraid of doing what I have to do, Seulgi. I want to be with you again, and I won’t ever give you a reason to doubt me again, unless…”

“Unless?”

Joohyun didn’t want to really ask about Jisoo. But it could be a possibility that Seulgi has moved on and is dating someone else. Joohyun will of course back off and accept it, if she is dating someone else. However, it feels so sudden if Seulgi was able to move on that quickly. Because, she surely couldn’t imagine herself moving on that fast with anyone.

“It’s not really any of my business if you’ve moved on with that girl. I ended our relationship so you were free to date again, so if you’re seeing her.”

Seulgi gets it automatically. Joohyun is curious to know what her relationship with Jisoo is, and the monolid girl supposes that it had looked like they were on a date. Seulgi also doesn’t even have to explain herself to Joohyun either, yet she will at least be honest. They need to keep on being honest if they have any chance of rebuilding their relationship.

“Jisoo is only my friend. We’re not dating and I’ve not been in any state to start thinking about dating again. You did break my heart, Joohyun. But at the same time I still love you too, no matter what I probably always will.”

Joohyun finds herself grateful that Seulgi isn’t dating anyone. She is also happy that Seulgi loves her too. This means they have something worth fighting for, no? They can work on being able to be a couple again, right? She knows it’ll be hard work, but nothing worth having comes easy. She’ll do what she has to in order to gain back Seulgi’s trust. Seulgi can trust her heart to her again, because Joohyun wants her future to be with the blonde.

“I love you too, and I know you can’t fully trust me right now. I know you’re probably scared I’ll hurt you again.”

“Can you blame me?”

“No, Seul. I don’t blame you at all. You didn’t do anything wrong here. I know it won’t happen overnight either, but I really want to try and fix our relationship. I love you, Seulgi.” She reaches for her hand and hopes Seulgi will take it. Joohyun knows she’s asking for a lot, but they do love each other. That does count for something, the fact that they are in love with one another. Seulgi has no idea what to do. She loves Joohyun very much but it is scary thinking about putting herself back in a position to where she might end up hurt again.

“I don’t think you fully understand how much you hurt me, Joohyun. I spent so many nights in bed crying and broken. I tried so hard to forget about you, but no matter what you were still. I’m scared to be hurt again, Joohyun, even if I love you. It’s such a risk, you do understand?”

“I do.” Joohyun agrees and gently touches her cheek in a loving manner. Seulgi doesn’t flinch away from her touch which is a good sign.

“I know how much I am asking for. I understand it’s a risk, but we can take things slowly. I want to be with you, Seul. Remember, how we always talked about getting married and spending the rest of our lives together?”

How could Seulgi forget? She never forgot all their conversations about their future and dreaming of that one day future.

“I remember.”

“I still believe in that future with you, we just have to give ourselves a chance. We can take our time rebuilding this relationship, if you want to. There’s no pressure, Seulgi. I’m just asking you to think about it.”

Seulgi gives a nod. She supposes it’s fair to have time to think about what she wants. A part of her does want to throw caution to the wind and give their relationship another chance. Everything before the sudden end of their relationship had been wonderful.

“I think taking it slow will be good. I don’t think I can simply just say goodbye to you either, Joohyun, not without seeing where this could go.”

The dark-haired woman smiles in thanks and hugs her. It’s more than she could hope for in this moment and she is grateful.

“We’ll take this slow and go on your terms, Seul. I love you and thank you for giving me this chance.”

Seulgi nods against her. “Please don’t hurt me again, Joohyun, if you do, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to be in your life again, understand?”

Seulgi no matter how much she loves Joohyun. She can’t be hurt again in this way, otherwise she really will stay out of her life, in whatever way she can. It’s hard imagining her life without Bae Joohyun. But she was without her during the entire time they were broken up, and lived through it. She does hope that after all is said and done, they can work it out.

“I understand and that’s fair, Seul. I will never give you another reason to doubt me again, I mean what I say when I will do everything in my power to fix our relationship. I promise you won’t regret it.”

“Let’s just take it one day at a time.” Seulgi tells her. They’ve talked a lot and gotten things out in the open. It’s a good first start, and perhaps one in the right direction.

“I should go.” The blonde tells her. “It wasn’t easy but I’m glad we did talk, Joohyun.”

“Wait,” Joohyun holds her arm. “Why don’t you stay for dinner, I already made food and it would be nice to eat with you again.”

Seulgi was about to decline the offer, however her stomach betrays her and grumbles loud enough to where Joohyun hears. The older woman smiles and looks up at her.

“Come on, don’t say you’re not hungry. I know we’re taking things slow but there’s no reason you can’t eat.”

“Alright, fine. I’ll stay to have dinner with you, Joohyun.”

They start heading into the kitchen area to where the table is. Seulgi would have laughed if someone told her she would be having dinner with her ex-girlfriend like it’s a regular thing. There is nothing regular about their breakup though, so in a way it’s not too crazy.

“We can meet again to talk more, at your pace, Seul.”

“Yeah, I’d like that. I’ll let you know when I’m free next.”

It dawns on Joohyun again that she still doesn’t have Seulgi’s new number. Would it be too much to ask for? They are taking things slow, but they still need a way to be in contact with one another.

“I don’t have…”

“I still have your number.” Seulgi finishes for her. It doesn’t even surprise Joohyun in the least that they are still on the same wavelength. She and Seulgi have always had a profound connection with one another. But, then she also hears that Seulgi never got rid of her number and that touches her.

“You do?”

“I saved it one of my sketchbooks, I just couldn’t let go of you completely, you know?”

“Yeah,” She nods in understanding. “I could never let go of you either. Then, you’ll call me when you’re ready to meet again?”

Seulgi nods and to show that she means it, she reaches over for Joohyun’s hand. The older woman reaches over and their hands become enclosed for a few moments. It’s this small but important gesture that means everything.

“Yes, I’ll call you.”

They look at each other for a few more moments before Joohyun continues making plates for them. Both women knowing that no matter the road ahead of them, one thing will always be true. They love each other and nothing will change that. Two people like them are bonded and destined to be together, and perhaps together they will beat the odds.

Translation, I still love you...

Translation, I’ll always love you…

Translation, I can’t let you go…

“Hey, Seulgi,” Joohyun speaks and Seulgi turns to look at her.

“Yes?”

“I love you, and I’ve never stopped.”

Seulgi doesn’t have to say anything for Joohyun to understand. They have a silent connection where there are no words necessary. Joohyun turns back to finish making their plates of food.

“Hey, Joohyun, I love you too, and I’ve never stopped.”

Translation, I love you

A/N: I do hope this was fine, I tried my best to end it on a positive note, where they aren’t officially back together but they will work on it because they love each other, and their relationship is important to them. People make mistakes, we all do, we’re human, but that doesn’t mean we can’t fix and do what we can to make it right. As long as we have someone willing to work with us. Thank you for reading and this brings the fic to an end :)

Chapter 3: i like this kind of theme and i kinda like if joohyun is the one who hurt seulgi.
and the ending is good. it was like... not rush... and yeah,,, it's like... it's better ended it that way, like they are not back together suddenly... they need healing, especially seulgi.
