OUTRO: Jimin
We Don't Talk Anymore
I overdosed
Should've known your love was a game, oh
Now I can't get you out of my brain, whoa
Oh, it's such a shame
That we don't talk anymore
"I'm not sure what time he'll come in, sir. Maybe you want me to put your name down and tell him when he comes?"
Jungkook sighs.
"No, it's okay," he says to the receiver, "I'll just wait."
"All right then. Have a great morning."
The receptionist of the dance company is definitely new; she sounded chirper compared to the previous one Jungkook grew up with. He's glad, however, because unlike the older receptionist, she didn't badger him for his name.
Otherwise, Jimin would know he called.
Jungkook already feels pathetic with the first time he called.
How is he?
His venture in the States meant radio silence between him and his former lover. Apart from the busy schedules, Jungkook couldn't pluck the courage to dial and wait for Jimin to answer. Plus, he didn't think it was a good idea; he had a bad feeling that if he heard Jimin's voice, he'll want to fly back to Korea.
They weren't talking anymore, anyway. What was the point?
To distract himself, Jungkook drowned himself in his schedules, dancing hard every night and day. He joined all the activities, met all the people he could, participated in all the performances, and worked himself to death.
It paid off in some way; he got attention.
Way more than he expected.
That's how he ended up with another form of distraction: dating women.
Jeon Jungkook stays for no woman.
He's already lost count of the girls he dated after Jimin. He didn't intend to lead them on, but for some reason, he couldn't stay. One girl, his team captain, seemed like a potential partner. He even brought her back with him in Korea during his week-long vacation.
But when he ran into Jimin for a second, he remembered why he couldn't take her seriously.
Jungkook returned to the States a week later, confused and heart aching for the man he left behind. Part of him wanted to fly back but Jungkook knew his responsibilities; he was so close to his dream.
That was his reality now.
As he contemplates over his empty cup of coffee, a car pulls up in front of the cafe, which catches Jungkook's eye. He sees a figure emerge from the car and tuck his hat.
Jungkook freezes
.
It's Jimin.
It's the first time all over again.
Jungkook has no idea what Jimin is up to these days. That short phone call a week ago only gave him much: he's still dancing and he seems to be doing okay. When he first heard his ex's voice, Jungkook felt a shiver down his spine.
It was the same, but not at all.
"It's nice to hear from you again, Jungkook," said Jimin over the phone.
His lip trembled. "Same here."
His original intention of calling Jimin was to see how he was doing. They hadn't spoken in years and he wanted nothing more than to hear his Chim Chim's voice. Using his resources as a star. Jungkook asked his staff to find Jimin's number, which they did in a span of three days. Once he got the digits, he dialled almost immediately.
The conversation started simple: "How are you?" "You're doing well?" "I saw you on the TV." "Thanks." "Thanks."
Until Jungkook couldn't take it anymore.
"I miss you."
There was a stunned silence from both him and Jimin. Jungkook could still hear Jimin from the other line; before he could reply, the younger one took advantage of the silence.
"I...I know I'm an idiot, Jimin-ah," he admitted, "I was...young and blinded, I guess. I thought I knew what was best for us. I didn't want to drag you along when I wasn't sure where I was going." He babbled on about how he messed up and how he regretted his decisions.
"I hurt you, I know that," he concluded his explanation, "I'm sorry, Jimin."
"Is that why you called?"
"I told you already: I miss you."
He felt like crying when he heard Jimin again. The mess of emotions he was, he asked his former lover if they could meet.
And now, here he is.
Staring at Jimin's profile, he could now see the changes. His chubby cheeks are gone, replaced by a sharp jawline. When he left, Jimin's hair was brown; now, it's as pink as cherry blossoms. From where Jungkook sat, he could see Jimin smiling as the car drives away. Despite the drastic changes, Jungkook saw traces of the Chim Chim he loves: those smiling eyes, strong arms that gave good hugs, and the lips he kissed endlessly.
The young idol feels his heart pounding wildly against his chest.
It was a surreal feeling, seeing Jimin once again.
