VIRAL LOVE
Chapter 6 - DEJA-VU
Mo-yeon drives to her studio around 9 am the next morning and parks her car by the sidewalk. She glances longingly at the coffee shop on the way to the studio, but decides to skip her caffeine fix today, no matter how much she’s craving it. I’ll probably need a week before I’m not embarrassed enough to go back there, haish.
She’s walking on the same side walk where she met Yoo Si-jin yesterday when she abruptly stops walking as she hesitates to herself. The bookstore across the street is open. His jacket is already laundered and folded in her large tote bag.
Should I go now? Does her sister know about the silly rumor? She grips her bag handle tighter. Is he there?
She takes a deep breath and decides to just get over it. Things will blow over in a few days anyway. Just stick with the plan, give back the jacket and you don’t have to worry about this ever again.
She crosses the street and walks hesitantly to the large glass door with the chalkboard sign saying ‘open’ hanging on the door. There is a quote hanging underneath it and she bursts out laughing as she read it. It’s a quote from Jane Austen.
‘The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.’
She was right; she’s going to enjoy getting her books here.
She is just about to push the door when it suddenly opens, a smiling, pretty young woman standing behind it.
“Kang Mo-yeon Ssi? Come on in!”
She blushes at the greeting and quickly bows. So he told his sister that she’s coming. “Good morning! Sorry for bothering you so early.”
Myeong-joo is having none of this formality. She grabs Mo-yeon’s hand and pulls her inside, making her stammer in surprise. “Haish, it’s not a problem. I’ve actually been waiting for like an hour already.”
“Oh.” She wants to say more but she takes a good look inside the bookstore and forgets what she is about to say. “Ommo, this place is a book paradise!”
Myeong-joo blinks before she laughs at Mo-yeon's unbridled enthusiasm. She could see that Mo-yeon is a fellow book lover by the way her eyes sparkle as she looks at stack after stack of old used books, from classics to second hand NY Times bestsellers. “What kind of books do you like to read, Kang Mo-yeon Ssi?”
Mo-yeon suddenly remembers she has company and quickly turns back to Myeong-joo, her smile beaming. Aigoo, she’s super gorgeous, Myeong-joo can’t help but think. My brother better not mess this up.
“I love everything, from classics to trashy novels,” she laughs as she walks to the nearest bookshelf, “I was alone a lot when I was a child, books and music were my only friends.”
Myeong-joo blinks at the personal titbit that Mo-yeon had suddenly divulged to her in her excitement, and she realizes she had said it easily without the slightest bitter note in her voice. She watches as Mo-yeon runs her fingers at the books lining up the shelves with obvious adoration in her eyes, her intention to returning Si-jin’s jacket to his sister completely forgotten; and Myeong-joo smiles softly to herself.
I think you’ll be perfect for him, Kang Mo-yeon Ssi.
---
Si-jin’s day starts earlier; he is at the field for practice by 7 am that morning. He walks into the field to be welcomed by cheers and teasing whistles by his teammates and he just sighs in resignation.
Haish, I already knew this would happen.
His teammate, midfielder Choi Woo-geun or better known as Snoopy swaggers by, grinning meaningfully at him. Si-jin just raises his brows in greeting. While everyone else is giving him a teasing look, nobody dares to ask him straight to his face about the rumor, at least not yet.
“Aigoo seriously, Big Boss? You’re going to maintain that innocent look?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he looks around, “Where’s Lee?”
Snoopy just snorts. “That coward went into hiding. Can’t believe he tried to drag you with him. He’s jealous of that Arsenal rumor, I bet. Trying to ruin it for you.”
Si-jin just clenches his jaws. He knows that too. “He can’t hide forever. Sooner or later he’s going to turn up.”
Snoopy just shakes his head and puts his hand on his shoulder. “Enough about that rotten turnip. Let’s talk about something nicer,” his grin turns wider and Si-jin almost rolls his eyes at the corny line that he knew is coming right after that, “Or shall I say, something prettier?”
The coach choses
