Don't Cry

JIMIN ONESHOTS

The doorbell suddenly rang while Jihye was trying to remove her shoes. She just got home from a tiring day at work and she wasn’t expecting anyone, so she mindlessly dragged her feet towards the door of her cozy apartment.

She was shocked to see who was behind the door. In front of her is her ex-boyfriend, Jimin. Both of them worked in the same company, except Jimin was boss. It seems like he headed straight to her apartment after work because he was still in his work clothes, a white button-up perfectly tucked in a pair of black pants partnered with a polished black leather shoes. He looked exhausted and irritable.

Jihye stared at him with a questioning look but he didn’t say a word. Instead, he grew impatient and nonchalantly welcomed himself inside her apartment.

Jihye was beyond speechless. It hasn’t been two weeks yet when Jimin broke up with her. He reasoned he was getting so busy and that his work was getting too much for him. As the heir of one of the large corporations in South Korea, the pressure he’s faced with every day is undeniably strong. Though Jihye understood what he’s going through, she didn’t understand why they had to break up. She thought the decision was one-sided and selfish.

Her eyes followed Jimin as he comfortably lied down the couch and rested his head on a pillow. He had his eyes closed as Jihye, who still couldn’t believe her eyes, approached him.

“Jimin, why are you here?” she asked, baffled. He didn’t move an inch although it was obvious he heard her. “Jimin,” she called out again but he still didn’t respond.

“Jimin, your shoes are on my sofa,” Jihye informed him and that was when Jimin moved. Without looking back at Jihye, he sat up from the couch and removed his shoes. Then, he went back to lying down now with his back against Jihye who was standing near him, with her arms crossed and jaw dropped.

“I can’t believe you. What’s your problem?” Jihye was slowly getting irritated. He comes to her apartment for no reason at all yet he refuses to talk to her. “Ugh,” she let out an annoyed groan. She knew how stubborn Jimin could get and because it didn’t seem like he was giving up soon, she let him be, atleast for now. Jimin looked like he was really stressed judging from the heavy bags underneath his eyes. The sight of him was enough to make Jihye pity him.

She went to prepare dinner in the kitchen which was just beside the living room. She opened the door of the fridge and searched for something she could cook. It turns out she ran out of groceries already so she decided to just call for delivery. She turned to Jimin, “Yah! Did you eat yet?” She wasn’t cruel enough to eat alone so she asked atleast. When he didn’t respond, she approached him and nudged him, “Jimin, did you eat yet?”

He opened his eyes tiredly, “Not yet, thank you.” He closed his eyes again and lied down more comfortably in the couch. Jihye let out a sigh and reached for her phone in her bag. She headed to her bedroom to silently make a call. When she finished the call, she headed to her closet to get a change of clothes. She changed to comfortable clothes which included a pair of gray jogging pants and a big white shirt. She put her hair up in a bun and went to the bathroom to clean her face. She got out after and sat on one of the chairs in the living room to wait for the delivery.

Jihye still had no idea what he was doing in her apartment after what he did to her several days ago. She was glaring at Jimin’s back. However, the more she stared, the more she softened because he looked much like an innocent child who needed all the care he could get.

After a few minutes, Jimin woke up to the sound of the doorbell ringing. Jihye was the one who stood up to get it. After thanking the delivery man, she brought the set of Korean fried chicken to the table and sat on one side. Soon, Jimin approached the table and nonchalantly sat on her opposite side. He didn’t spare even a glance at her while Jihye, on the hand, was burning holes through his head.

When they started eating, Jihye couldn’t help but bitterly ask, “Why are you here?”

“Huh?” Jimin nonchalantly responded, sparing her a single glance before going back to focusing on his chicken. “Wae?~~” he irritably asked.

“What do you mean why???”

“I have so much work to do. I have to finish it by tonight,” he casually informed Jihye, who was obviously still dumbfounded by everything that’s happening.

“Here??? Why here???”

“Why not?”

“Why not?” she let out an exasperated sigh. She pretended to think, “Why not? Uhm, because you just dumped me two weeks ago?” Jihye already lost her appetite but Jimin continued to hungrily munch on the chicken as if it’s his first meal in two days.

“You’re unbelievable. Do you know how much you hurt me?” Jihye quietly asked when suddenly a tear decided to fall from her eyes. She quickly wiped it with the back of her hand so he wouldn’t see. As she started to eat, she heard Jimin softly mumble, “I’m sorry.” To this, Jihye glared at him more.

“Do you know how much you’re hurting me now?” she sadly asked. Jimin did not respond and continued to eat silently.

When he was done, he left to go to the living room, leaving Jihye with the dishes. He brought out his laptop and all sorts of documents from his bag and placed it messily on the coffee table. When Jihye saw this, she asked, annoyed, “Where am I supposed to work then?”

He nonchalantly made space on the coffee table and moved to one side of the couch. Jihye had nothing else to do but sigh. She got her own laptop and a few papers she needed and sat on the other side of the couch. She irritably asked, “When are you leaving? My boyfriend’s coming here. You better leave.”

Jimin let out a chuckle and casually answered, “Nice try. I’m staying the night.”

“Ha, who told you you can stay here?”

“Can’t we just work quietly? I have so many things to do,” he simply stated. Jihye let out another exasperated sigh and just decided to let him go.

After a few moments, she stared at Jimin in disbelief as he got up and entered her bedroom. Soon, he came out in more comfortable clothes which he had left there in her apartment. Jihye was embarrassed because she hadn’t thrown those clothes away yet even when they had already broke up.

She heard him ask, “Do you have coffee?” but Jihye didn’t have time to reply as he already headed to the kitchen to make coffee. He knew so well where things are in her apartment so the question wasn’t really necessary.

When he finished, he came back with two cups of coffee. He placed one in front of Jihye and silently went back to his place. Though Jihye was more than distracted of his presence, no words were exchanged as both of them tried to just focus on their own work.

It was already late when Jihye finished preparing for her presentation which was going to be tomorrow. Jimin was still working on a few documents when she left to go to bed. She tried to go to sleep but she couldn’t, not when the love of her life is just a wall apart. She missed him badly but she couldn’t bring herself to treat him like before because it’s not the same anymore.

She cried. God knows how much she wants to hug him, kiss him, and tell him how much she loved him but she can’t so she cried because it hurt too much.

Later, Jimin entered the room and crawled on the bed beside her. Thankfully, she had her back against him so he couldn’t see her crying face. Worried that Jimin will find out she’d been crying, she tried hard not to make a sound, but when he s his arms around her and hugged her gently, just like before, she couldn’t help but let out a whimper. She badly missed his touch. She cried knowing that after that night, he won’t be by her side again.

She was now sobbing uncontrollably so Jimin hugged her tightly. It was hard for him too, leaving her, but he thought he had no choice. He badly missed her and desperately wanted to be with her which is why he was selfish enough to visit her in her apartment. He hurt too. He shut his eyes tightly to prevent himself from crying but tears still managed to escape.

He turned her body around to face him so he could hug her better. He rested his chin on her head while she sobbed on his chest. She started to hit him, lightly, as she already got weak from crying. Jimin didn’t break the hug, instead, he just let her.

“You’re so mean. Do you know how much you hurt me?” she cried. “You’re mean. You’re so mean.”

When her cries softened, he kissed her forehead and whispered, “I’m sorry.” Jihye was now hugging him back as she let herself drown to sleep.
