We Meet Again

Can You See Me Now?

Hunger, thirst, and drowsiness had Jungkook laying irritably in his bed. It was already one in the afternoon, and his stomach refused to leave it alone as it growled angrily at him. As much as he desired a plate of steaming lunch in front of him, his nurse hadn't arrived to give him his medicine yet, leaving him to wait. Tsk, that was depressing. The cafeteria was serving up a good lunch today - grilled chicken with mashed potatoes, corn, and orange juice! Considering that it was hospital food, he was rating it pretty well.

Just as Jungkook was about to call someone about his medication, his nurse walked in, apologizing for the delay as she came up with some lame excuse. She gave him two pills and a glass of water, which he gulped down almost immediately. Now he'd go to lunch! After swallowing the two pills down, he stood up and held onto his IV, making his way to the elevator with his nurse.

Food! She loved food. Pretty much any type and any flavor.
Adorned in her pink pajamas and matching pink slippers -- the word pink just sounded nice. She had no idea what pink even looked like, but regardless, if the nurse said it suited her, she'd wear it.
It was her lunchtime, and she left her room rather eagerly, traveling slightly faster than what was considered normal of her. There were occasional stickers -- thanks to her nurse -- along the wooden railing, which she felt for and was able to recognize that she was walking in the right path.
Right when she arrived at the elevator, she heard the familiar ping ... indicating that the doors were just closing! Oh no, she had just missed the elevator..
Groaning to herself, she felt for the downward elevator button and pressed it forcefully. Grr.

Jungkook arrived at the elevator just as it opened and walked into the confined metal box as he watched his nurse push the button for ground floor. He pursed his lips and impatiently tapped the metal railing, the sound echoing dully in the silence. Wait! Just as the doors were shutting, an image caught his eye. The girl! The girl he had met yesterday was rushing towards the doors. He reached out to stop the doors from shutting, but it was too late. He wanted to see her again, feel her hands again, and see that cute smile of hers once more. And then he realized that he had never even received her name. Shucks. He hoped he'd be able to meet her once more to catch her name.

Humming jumbled jargon to herself as she waited, she drummed her fingers aimlessly, completely oblivious to anything that just happened. The elevator dinged once more and she carefully walked in, feeling the buttons for the first floor and pressing it.

For some reason, she really liked elevators. It was so strange to witness the feeling of traveling upwards and downwards without a stable or flat group.

The door opened upon reaching the first floor, and she stepped out, following her nose -- rather just instinct that had developed over the years -- to the cafeteria. Mm.. She was so hungry.

Traveling with a hand gliding over the walls, she entered the cafeteria, using her sensory memory to remember that the line she normally stood at was beside the tall potted plant with cold, sleek leaves. Accidentally bumping into someone in front of her, she took a slightly wary and apologetic step backward.

"I'm so sorry! I was wondering, is this perhaps the end of the lunch line?"

Jungkook walked out of the elevator as it opened and walked to the cafeteria, mouth tingling with the scents that flooded his nose. He walked up behind someone in line and waited as patiently as could, his mouth already salivating from his hunger. Maybe this was how old people felt when they finally got their lunch in nursing homes. He didn't know and would never get the chance to know either.

He moved up a little with the line and could see the lunch ladies serving up plates of the food prepared. Yum. He was so close..

Oof.

Someone had bumped into him, and he turned around from slight indignance, only to have his face brighten up from surprise. It was her!

"It sure is," he responded with a smile. "I'm glad you were able to find it on your own."

Oh, that voice! She could clearly recognize it -- it was the boy from that other day! What a coincidence that she had the opportunity to meet him once again.

Breaking into a grin, she held her hands together behind her back, hoping that she was staring and smiling at him all the while. "It's nice to see -- run into," she corrected herself quickly, "you again. Are you here for lunch?"

Her smile was enough to make his day better despite the hunger eating at his stomach. She really did have such a nice smile, and he found himself wishing to be able to see it everyday for the rest of his life.

Wait.. He noticed that she was looking at little too far to the right, so he shuffled over a little to make it appear that she was looking at him.

"It's nice to run into you too. Or this time be ran into." He chuckled and gently took her arm, moving along with her as the line advanced. "Yeah, I'm here for lunch. I think the nurse was purposefully trying to starve me."

Raising her eyebrows slightly upon feeling herself being pulled, she stood next to him -- feeling slightly self conscious as she could feel his body heat radiating onto hers -- were they really that close? She wished she could see his face. She wondered what he looked like.

Laughing softly in response to his words, she smiled again. He was funny. "What is the menu for lunch today?" she asked curiously. She never really knew any of these things -- more so just accepted whatever she got.

Jungkook chuckled as she laughed at his silliness. It was something he'd never lose even if he was dying. "We're having grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and orange juice. Thankfully, it's good food this time and something that doesn't taste like, um I don't know. Jail. Death. Solitary confinement." He smiled and continued to pull her along with him until it was their turn to get their lunches. "Do you need help getting your lunch? Or can you get it yourself?"

"I can get it, thank you though," she responded with a smile. It was nice of him to want to help. Feeling the stack of trays, she took one for herself, hesitating if she should grab a second for him or not... Had he already gotten one? Deciding not to make a fool out of herself, she scratched the thought of grabbing another for the boy and moved carefully along the line.

It being her fourth or fifth year eating in the cafeteria, the kitchen ladies had long since been accustomed to her disability. They had a separate meal, that was already prepared and organized, ready for her, which was placed on her tray. Feeling the added weight, she smiled and murmured a grateful word of appreciation before sliding down the line.

Jungkook nodded when she rejected his help. He wasn't offended. It was great that she was able to support herself independently. He surely wouldn't want others continuously helping him if he was blind since it surely only remind him that was blind. He lifted his tray towards the lunch staff as he watched them place his prepared lunch on his tray. Everything looked so good, he thought as he collected his food and drink before waiting for the girl to finish getting her food as well.

"Where do you normally sit?" she asked him upon having finished getting her food. She usually sat alone, and it was fine. It was typically beside the window where she could feel the warmth of the sunlight on her skin.

There weren't many people she was accustomed to speaking with, which was another central reason behind why she sat alone. And it was never too bad to have a silent period of self reflection or though.

"I usually sit at the table in the far corner over there." He started to point towards the spot where he sat at but stopped himself.

She's blind you idiot, he thought and looked at her apologetically. "Sorry about that. Just come with me. I'll take you to where I sit at." He reached out to place his hand on the small of her back as he began to direct her safely towards his lunch table. Upon arriving, he pulled out a seat for her and helped guide her towards the chair.

Disabilities . And she knew that from first hand experience.

Hiding any sign of dejection, she merely blinked and followed through with his guidance, sitting down in a seat he had pulled out for her. She flushed slightly, this being the first time anyone had treated her in such a gentlemanly manner.

"Thank you," she added gratefully, remembering her manners. She hadn't been expecting to be invited to eat together, but it felt nice to have company for once.

Jungkook felt bad for being so careless with his words, recalling that he had to word things differently for her. As she sat down in the chair, he pushed it in, sitting down across from her afterward. He sat his food tray down in front of him, and stared at the food before his eyes flickered back up to admire her pretty face.

"You're welcome." He smiled as she thanked him for the rather simple and kind gesture, unintentionally finding himself wondering if she was often treated like this by other people or if those people steered clear of her because of her flaws.

Carefully feeling for her drink and lifting it up to her lips, she swallowed the liquid, enjoying the sweet taste that entered . Mm, she loved orange juice. Setting it down, she lifted up a spoon, gingerly tapping it against several things before finding the mashed potatoes and taking a scoop to eat from. She loved potatoes. Unfortunately, the doctor had warned her not to eat too much.
"Do you like your food?" she asked him upon finishing chewing.

Jungkook watched as she felt around for her drink and her food. He couldn't help but feel the need to just feed her and guide her to what she was looking for, but he resisted as he just sat back quietly while eating. He spooned some mashed potatoes into his mouth then some corn, savoring the taste.

"Yeah. Do you like yours?" he asked, starting to cut into his chicken before bringing the bite sized piece of meat up to his lips.

She nodded in response to his question, smiling happily before proceeding to take another sip of her juice.

"I do. The food was very good today! And I think I'm finished," she added afterward, knowing that she had barely eaten, but not particularly wanting to go through the trouble of cutting up food and eating the rest.

"Are you done?"

Jungkook widened his eyes slightly when she stated that she was finished. Already?!!?!? He looked at her plate to see that she didn't even leave a dint in her food. It didn't even look like she had touched it. He sighed softly and finished off his corn before he quickly drank as much of his juice as he could.

"Yeah, I'm done," he lied. He wasn't even close to being finished, but he really wanted to spend time with her. He wasn't ready to see her leave if he wasn't done.

"Oh, you are?" She smiled blindly -- literally -- in response and took her tray, standing up. The trash can... was somewhere beside the concrete pillar, wasn't it? Carefully making her way over, she dumped her food into the waste bin before stacking her tray, gingerly finding the hand sanitizer dispenser nearby afterward and rubbing her hands with the chemical.

Oh no, she had totally lost track of the boy. Was he still there with her?

Turning her head, meaning to glance around, hopelessly, she frowned, slightly upset and feeling moronic for not having paid more attention to her new companion.

Jungkook felt a little bad about lying to her, but he stayed quiet about his lie as he got up, carrying his tray with her over to the trash bin. He watched her toss her food away then copied her, cringing slightly from the guilt from throwing away uneaten food... Well, were they done?

Good bye my friend, he began to think to himself as he stacked his tray on top of the other trays there. He turned to look at her as he gently pushed a few strands of hair out of her face. "What should we do now?"

Face conspicuously brightening upon hearing his voice once again and feelings his fingers gently brush her face, she smiled, feeling too obviously high spirited. "What do you like to do?" she asked him. "Do you like walking outside? Is the weather nice today?" she questioned, just wanting to get to know him better.

And maybe if the weather was nice, she'd have the opportunity to get some sun and walk around outside.

Jungkook became ecstatic upon seeing her smile in response to his words. It was as if she was a child who had discovered a long lost toy.

"Hmm, I used to go outside for a run or something, but I haven't been able to that lately since I'm not in a good condition..." He pouted slightly and was at ease to know that he wouldn't be called cute. He looked outside and try to make a good enough description of scenery outside so she could imagine what it looked like. "Well, the sun is out, and it looks a little windy .. but not too much, and there isn't any snow on the ground so I think it's somewhat warm outside." Turning to glance at her, he hoped that it was enough for her to visualize, regardless of he had forgotten to add several other little details, like how green the grass was getting and the color of the sky. However, something told him that color wouldn't matter much to her.

"Oh, the weather seems nice," she murmured upon hearing his description. Thinking slightly about his words, she suddenly furrowed her eyebrows. "You're not in a good condition? What do you mean? Are you hurt anywhere? Are you okay?" She carefully reached a hand out in the direction of his voice, making an attempt to touch him -- to ensure he was fine.

He leaned forward toward her wandering hand, letting her touch his face. Oh no, her worried expression. He took note of how worried she was when he said he wasn't a good condition, also realizing that he didn't like that expression on her. He didn't like making people worry about him. Especially her.

"Uh, no I'm not hurt anywhere. I'll be just fine," he lied, smiling as he reached for her hand, taking it then gently guiding her to the outdoors.

She stiffened slightly at the sensation of feeling something soft -- soft skin... soft lips.. Oh.. He must be so handsome..
But then she lifted her hand from his face, not wanting to linger for too long, and she had to fight curiosity and desire to see what type of eyes he might have.. or nose.. or ears..
Unconsciously turning a slight pink, she followed him out, breaking out into a wide smile at the feeling of sunlight falling onto her skin.

"Are you sure you're fine?"

Jungkook nodded as he felt her fingertips curiously explore his face, only for a short while before her warm touch disappeared. Jungkook smiled as he saw the pinkish tint of her cheeks and he couldn't help but realize how pretty she looked with that cute blush on her cheeks. He himself felt himself grow warm in the face as well, but he couldn't really tell if it was a fever breaking out or if he was somewhat nervous. They both felt the same to him at this point.

As they reached the outdoors, he took a deep breath of the fresh air and felt the clean air refresh his lungs.

"Have you ever just been outside and forgotten all your worries and cares? And all you ever want to do just float on the clouds? Or fly like a bird?" he asked, looking up at the blue sky and just imagined himself doing that.

A gust of wind floated through her hair, causing it to flip around her face, and she pushed it behind her ears, smiling widely and walking around -- hoping not to run into anything.

"Hmm?" In response to his question, she thought to herself. Clouds... Those were apparently fluffy white things in the sky. She couldn't see why anyone wouldn't want to float on one of those. "I think I'd love to float on the clouds!" she responded enthusiastically, ony to accidentally bump into a small bush and falter backwards afterward.

He looked at her and was content with her enthusiasm.

"I would too," he responded with a genial smile -- one that rapidly disappeared as he noticed how she was faltering backwards. Quickly rushing to her aid before she'd hit the ground and possible injure herself, he took a rapid step to hold her upright, only to misplace his step and have both of them topple onto the ground -- on top of each other.

Groaning before making a move to sit upright, he opened his eyes, only to widen them rapidly upon realizing how close they were.

God, they were really close.
