“What are you writing down? Do you really think class is this interesting?” Yerin whispered as she eyed Hyunmi, who was penning down line after line in her notebook.
“Class?” the girl questioned, as if for a second she had forgotten that was were she was.
“Class.. School.. You know? What are you writing then?” As Yerin peeked into Hyunmi’s notebook it soon became clear to her. Her friend wasn’t preoccupied with making notes, instead she was working on a story. For as long as Yerin had known Hyunmi, she loved writing stories. She would try anything, even genres she wasn’t familiar with, as long as she had an idea that seemed fun to her. Yerin always enjoyed reading Hyunmi’s stories, more so than the girl herself seemed to do.
Hyunmi was never quite satisfied with her writings. The ideas were fun and she was always super excited when she was writing them. But looking back always made her doubt her efforts. Was it really good? Was it even fun? Surely, no one but her could really enjoy it? Sometimes, she felt like quitting. But then, she’d get another great idea and she just couldn’t stop herself from writing it down.
As they left the classroom, Hyunmi’s head was still with her story, figuring out what to do next. So much so that she didn’t realize she was right about to walk into someone, had Yerin not steered her to the side.
“That would have been too cliche,” Hyunmi muttered, followed by a thanks.
“Robbed you of a perfectly good chance to walk into me, though.”
Only now did Hyunmi look at the boy in front of them. He was handsome, she couldn’t deny that. Certainly full of himself. She wasn’t sure if she minded.
“Guess I’ll take a rain check on that, then,” she joked, but he smiled and replied:
“I’ll be waiting.”
---
It had been two weeks since that. She hadn’t seen the mystery boy again. Or at least, hadn’t noticed him. Not that she had been looking. Today, Hyunmi had gone to a little cafe, not too far from campus, to write the last few chapters of her story. Or at least try. She had run into a writer's block. She had hoped the change of scenery would be enough to finish the story, but so far, she got nothing. She sipped her tea as she re-read her last page, before tearing it out of her notebook. It just didn’t seem to work. She tried again, so into writing that she did not see someone pick up the freshly ripped out page.
“Did you write this?”
“I did.” She looked up, finding herself face to face with the mystery boy again.
“It’s really good.”
“Not good enough,” she shrugged once. He seemed to be a walking cliche, saying all the things the hero of a young adult novel would say and do.
“If it’s not good enough, you have to let me read the rest. It must be amazing. Like you.”
Hyunmi couldn’t help but chuckle.
“You don’t even know me.”
“How about we change that then? I’m Woohyun.”
“I’m Hyunmi,” the girl smiled and Woohyun decided that was enough of an invitation to sit down next to her.
“So… can I read it?” he asked.
“It’s not finished. And not very good… You don’t want to waste your time.”
“That doesn’t sound like you.”
“What?”
“You always seems so cheerful. We go to the same school, I’ve seen you before.”
He still sounded like a cliche. But Hyunmi couldn’t help but think that she had just figured out why these type of guys had become a cliche. A random handsome boy who seems to suddenly care for you? And says all these nice things? Cliche as it maybe, it sure was working on her.
“Alright, alright, you can read it.”
She would have liked to be able to say she waited patiently for him to finish reading, but she was nervous. Why did she even care about the opinion of this handsome stranger?
“So did you think it was as amazing as me?” she joked when he finished.
“No.” He didn’t smile and she felt like her heart stopped.
“It was even better.” He smiled widely. “I mean, you’re so cute it’s distracting, but even with so much distraction I finished it in one go. You’re an amazing writer.”
Hyunmi blushed at his words and mumbled: “But I still can’t finish it.”
“Oh, but I think I can help you with that.”
“You can?”
“Of course! You just need some real world experience. I’ll take you on a date that will give you enough inspiration for a million happy endings.”
“You sure you can live up to that?” she teased, but Woohyun seemed confident in himself. And before she had realized it, she had agreed to a date with this boy she barely knew.
---
“Are you sure he’s okay?” Yerin seemed skeptical, but Hyunmi wasn’t. She had expected herself to be a bit more nervous, or to have regretted saying yes to this stranger. But she didn’t. It felt right, somehow. She was confident everything would be fine, even if she had nothing to back this claim up.
“He’s a good guy, Yerin, don’t worry,” she tried to reassure her roommate.
“I hope so. At least you’re looking amazing. It better be worth it, to finish your story. I can’t wait to read it,” she finally gave in. They had been discussing this ever since Hyunmi returned from the cafe, and it seemed like she was going through with meeting him, no matter what she said.
“I’m sure I’m right. And you better wait until I finish it then.”
“I can’t believe you let a stranger read it, but you’re keeping it a secret from me,” Yerin complained.
“Hey! You’re, like, my biggest fan, I can’t give you a half-finished story. It needs to be perfect!”
Before Yerin could reply the doorbell rang, and there was Woohyun. He had a cocky smile on his face and studied her appreciatively for a short moment.
“You are the reason men fall in love,” he commented and took her hand with a smile. “But tonight you’re mine.”
“You better make sure you keep your promise. I need all the inspiration I can get.” Hyunmi replied, trying to hide how flustered his words had just made her.
“Don’t worry about that, it will be a night you’ll never forget.”
He lead her to a simple car, not quite as flashy as she had somehow expected. Didn’t the heroes in books always have the coolest cars?
She found herself softly singing to the songs on the radio as he drove his car. She had expected something simple, a movie and dinner, possibly, but instead he drove her further from the city.
“You’re not going to kidnap me, are you?” she joked.
“It’s not kidnapping if you’re coming willingly,” he teased back and added: “We’re almost there.”
He stopped his car in what seemed to be the middle of nowhere, and helped her out the car.
“So I’m guessing this isn’t a dinner and a movie kind of date?”
“Only the best for you.” And yet another cliche left his lips. But that didn’t stop Hyunmi from being excited when she realized where they were. After just a five minute walk, they found themselves on a beach. They walked on the beach, in silence. No cheesy remarks from Woohyun, no teasing from Hyunmi. Yet somehow it felt like enough. He took her hand as they strolled further and further away from the car, looking at the waves as they softly rolled onto shore.
“We’re here,” Woohyun suddenly announced proudly. But Hyunmi saw nothing but the beach.
“The beach? Yeah, have been for a while,” she commented cheekily. He laughed softly.
“Over there! You wanted dinner right? It’s a small restaurant, but it has the best view of the sunset you’ve ever seen.”
The restaurant was small, cozy and way more popular than Hyunmi would have expected. She figured it would be a quiet place, and although you couldn’t exactly call it loud, all tables were filled, except for the one Woohyun had reserved.
They settled down, and like Woohyun had said, they had the perfect view of the ocean. He assured her that in about an hour the most perfect sunset would be visible just there.
“So, are you secretly rich, that you can reserve these perfect seats?” she teased and he nodded, before laughing.
“I wish. My friend works here.”
Without the soft sea breeze and the waves to distract them, they were now talking a lot more. They didn’t mention Hyunmi’s story, but instead talked about themselves, their lives and their studies.
They ate dinner and as Woohyun had promised, halfway through their meal the sunset cast an orange glow over everything, leaving them stare in awe.
“Almost as beautiful as you,” Woohyun commented.
“The colour reminds me of you, melted cheese,” she retorted with a smile.
“You know you like it.” He didn’t miss a beat. Hyunmi felt her cheeks turn red, but nodded.
“So maybe I do.”
“You better. This is a date, after all.”
They walked back to the car under the starry sky. Woohyun had lend Hyunmi his coat against the sudden chill of the night.
“So this was your idea of a perfect date?” Hyunmi commented when they had reached the car. She couldn’t help but think she might agree.
“No, not perfect. Not yet.” He leaned forward and softly kissed her lips. She was too shocked to move, and it didn’t last longer than a second. Before she could decide whether she was angry or disappointed it was such a short kiss, he grinned.
“Now it’s perfect.”
---
Like Woohyun had promised, it didn’t take her long to finish her story afterwards. Yerin said she loved it, though she was pretty sure the boy had had nothing to do with it. Hyunmi didn’t agree. But she did feel it was her best story so far. Not perfect, but pretty good nevertheless.
Of course, that one date hadn’t been the end of her and Woohyun. They met more often now, talking in their breaks, texting each other. She wasn’t sure if she liked him for the abundance of inspiration she got from being with him, or because he was just an amazing guy.
“I finished another story,” she told Woohyun proudly. They were sitting in the cafe where he had first read her story.
“You are as fast as you are pretty.”
“You are all the inspiration I need,” she replied with a smile, but Woohyun shook his head.
“It’s not because of me.”
“Weren’t you the one who said he’d give me enough inspiration for a million stories? What happened to that?”
“It’s all you. I just gave you the confidence. You don’t need me.”
“I do. I do need you. Life without you would be like a broken pencil... pointless.” It was at that moment she realized two things. One: she was in love with him. Not for the inspiration she got from him, but for him. And also for the confidence he had given her, his faith in her. And two: cheesiness was infectious.
“And to think this all started because you needed inspiration,” he smiled and kissed her, for real this time.
Okay, I wrote you so differently from usual, I hope you still like it >.<
The Queen of Wands is a court card (obviously) and they usually represent people. I felt like this card really describes you well I know you so I can say this xD Like, it's a mix between being confident, mature and cheerful, but also between needing to trust yourself more, to have the faith that you are talented. I feel like both of these sides a present in you. but then again, maybe in everyone. This card is a super positive card, especially in love, as it shows a relationship in which both people make each other better, more confident and accept each other.
So this is my first time writing based on a Tarot card, and it was a lot easier then I expected. I hope you like it, Blu3Wind, and feel free to request again if you did ;P
and don't forget: Have faith in yourself!
