Chapter II.

Call.

Yes, I used BIGBANG’s Loser lyrics as part of my fic. I really love this song and when I wrote this, the song had just came up and it inspired me to write this.

This one goes hard from the starts, or I think so, anyway, I hope enjoy ^^

The night came and she couldn’t hold anymore, she needed to talk about the slap that her mother gave her when she refused going out with another disgusting man from the church, so she called Nayoung that answered on the fourth call and stopped whatever Jieqiong was going to say.

“I’ve found my father ually abusing my youngest sister today.” Jieqiong was too shocked to know what to say. “Or trying to, because as soon as I saw it, I got him off her.”

“Nayoung…” she tried to speak.

“Then he tried to abuse me.” she ignored. “Of course nothing happened, but I ended hearing some interesting things about me.”

“Like?”

“Things that I already knew, that I was ed up and a disgrace for my family, that I should die burned together with the that was my mother.” sigh. “I just found interesting that he thought like that as well.”

“Why your life seem so hard?” Jieqiong felt like an idiot as soon as the question left her lips.

Nayoung didn’t say anything for whole two minutes. The black haired girl eventually got used to this, she knew the other one would eventually talk and that if Nayoung still wanted to talk about it, she would answer even after a long time or not, even if it made sense or not.

“Sometimes I wish to lay down and say a last goodbye to whatever I have in this world.” she confessed quietly. “I wish I could close my eyes for the last time without regrets”

“Why?”

“I never fit in anything in this world; I’ve never felt like I was normal while being here.” a sigh. “I was always alone.”

“Normal is boring.” the comment made the other give a small laugh.

“I am boring.” she talked back.

“You’re peculiar.” then there was the silence. For some minutes, no one said a thing. “And why haven’t you done that yet? Not that I want you to, actually is the opposite…”

“My sister once said that good thing come to those who wait…” she whispered. “That was before she ran away to the other side of the world with her boyfriend.”

“And what is that you are waiting for?”

“Don’t know, maybe waiting my younger sister to overage.” thirty seconds. “Things got easier since we started to talk.”

“I know…”

“Yet I don’t know up to when I can hold things up…” she cut whatever Jieqiong was going to say.

“I’m not comfortable knowing you might disappear someday.” she confessed.

“But it wasn’t that the purpose of this whole thing?” she asked remembering of when they started to talk.

“To you, maybe.” silence. “The truth is that I didn’t even think about it.”

“You can’t do anything to save me, I hope you know this.” she could feel the grief in the girl’s words. “It has been a while since someone could.”

“How old are you?” Jieqiong asked out of nowhere. She was really curious about this and she knew that this conversation was leading nowhere.

On the other side, she could hear only the girl breathing.

“Twenty-four.” she finally got her answer. “You?”

“Twenty-two.” minutes passed. “I want to leave here.”

“Going through a hard time?” Nayoung asked ironically and rhetorically.

“My mother hit me because I don’t want to go out with another scrotum she knows.” she confessed.

“From what I know, you don’t have anything holding you there. I don’t know why you haven’t left yet.” the younger one thought for some moments.

“I don’t know where to go.” sighs. “Even though I always liked the south.”

“Way too sunny, it’s uncomfortable.” she complained.

“More far away from here, the better.” Jieqiong explained.

Took more time than usual to Nayoung hung up, and when she did it, Jieqiong was already fast asleep.

“Bye, Kyulkyung.” she said knowing that the other girl wouldn’t hear.

Eventually Jieqiong got tired of having to do everything her mother told her to, that when both of them did not got on big fights between them.

Sure it took some good time so she could make the decision she made. Eight months to be exact.

She finally graduated from the university, and by luck she found an intern propose from a company that was looking for people that would move to south in their new filial. She didn’t hesitate to accept the propose and even with some complains from her parents, about the boyfriends she was looking for her daughter and about the fact that there wasn’t anyone else to take care of her brother, she couldn’t care less.

She moved south, ignoring everything her parents told her. She didn’t have patience anymore and sometime, she would need to learn how to live on her own, because turning into someone like her brother, that was more than thirty years old and still lived with his parents, well that’s a no-no.

At some point, she briefly talked to Nayoung about moving. They kept in touch with each other. Even though the times they talked for week was less, the time they spend talking in one night was bigger. Most of the time, one of them would fall asleep in the middle of the call, while the other would hung up. There was even some days where both slept at the same time.

Either way, she didn’t told Nayoung where she was going. First, because the woman didn’t asked, and second that, even though they still talked at nights, she wasn’t sure if she should say or not. They never met, and she didn’t know if she should fully trust the other.

The goodbye was easier she was expecting to be. She even started to doubt if she was a good daughter after realizing all she felt was relief.

Now, hard was to establish herself on her new apartment. She had to eat take-outs and frozen food for almost a whole month. At least she could have an idea of good places to eat and the best markets around her house.

When she finally finished organizing her new home, Jieqiong started to miss some homemade meal, and even though she knew she wasn’t the best cooker in the town, she had to use her kitchen at least once.

After she got everything she needed inside the market cart, she got in the line of the only cashier of the store and waited the brunette in front of her pay the old man behind the counter.

“It’s missing.” he complained to the girl who huffed and started to look for some money on her pockets.

It was easy to see the despair on the girl. It was inevitable the will of helping the girl that was a bit taller than she was. She put her hand on her own pocket and got enough money to pay the amount that was missing.

“It’s okay.” she said giving the money to the old man, and gave a small smile to the girl who was ready to refuse the help. She observed the girl shut , and quickly left the small market.

“That animal can’t even say thanks to a beautiful girl like you.” he huffed again, making Jieqiong give an uncomfortable smile to him. She didn’t want to be rude with him, but he was acting like an . He didn’t need to be like this with a strange, after all, he don’t know how was the person’s day.

Trying to avoid the man, she also left quickly making her way to her apartment. But when she turned around the corner, she walked straight into the same girl from the market, but this time it looked like she was in the middle of a huge fight with some random man in the sidewalk.

Jieqiong saw when the man’s hand flew across the girl’s face. She was shocked. She thought about helping the girl, especially after she heard her voice.

“It’s none of your ing business, you piece of .” she managed to hear the girl speaking to the man that yelled some curses on her face before leaving.

It was easy to recognize her voice, after all, she had spoken to the same voice the night before. Jieqiong noticed that she was trying to stabilize her breathing. Hoping she was right, Jieqiong took a deep breath.

“Nayoung?” she called loud enough so the woman could hear. And she waited while her expectation was growing more and more.

When she finally managed to have a good vision of the girl’s face, she noticed her small and rounded face, her small lips, pretty eyes and her red cheeks because of the slap.

“Who are you?” the taller one analyzed the girl while frowning in confusion and with that Jieqiong was starting to be 100% sure of who it was, so she took a step closer.

“Jieqiong.” she said with a bit of fear of being wrong. She saw the woman’s eyes soften quickly and then she was frowning again. “I’m sorry, I must be wrong, sorry.”

She was about to step back when Nayoung finally did something and stopped her.

Somehow, Jieqiong convinced the older one to stop by her house, maybe she wanted to talk about what just happened.

“You didn’t needed to pay for me.” Nayoung said after a time in silence. She had analyzed Jieqiong’s apartment and the owner saw that.

“A good deed can change someone’s life.” she talked back the same way she would do when they are talking on the phone and Nayoung starts to nag about things. Usually this would make the older smile a bit.

Jieqiong haven’t gotten used to the fact that the voice she would hear before she falls asleep had gained a face. A very pretty face.

“I think you’ve just met my dear father.” she talked after a time without looking at the other’s face.

“And I think it might take a good time so I can forget him.” the younger one commented making a cute, yet small, smile appear in the woman’s mouth. They knew that this wasn’t funny, but they didn’t want to make things weird either. They stayed quiet for a certain moment, until Jieqiong started to go through hers purchases. “Do you want a cupcake?”

Nayoung looked from the cupcake to the woman and from the woman to the cupcake a few times before she got what the other was giving her and thanked with a small movement of her head.

“Did you know I was living here?” she asked after some minutes, those minutes that Jieqiong took so she could see every characteristics from the girl.

“I had no idea.” she was really trying to hide the attraction she was starting to feel towards the girl. “I moved because the company where I started working for opened a filial here.”

“I know, I remember you talking about this.” Nayoung quickly said. She looked a bit uncomfortable.

“You’re different from what I imagined.” Jieqiong tried to make the girl feel better. Not exactly the best way, but she tried.

“And is that a good thing?” she finally looked in her eyes.

“I guess, I never gave many thoughts about how you looked, but it’s definitely better than all my tries.” that made the other give a small smile again before both of them got on that silence as if they were at the phone.

“I need to go.” after some minutes, Nayoung stood up.

“Are you sure you don’t want to stay for lunch?” she hesitated, but asked anyway.

“In some minutes my sister is getting out of school, I need to be sure she is going to be okay.” the smaller one understood and accompanied her to the street, outside from the apartment complex.

“Feel free to comeback anytime, if you want to.” she offered when both got there.

“Bye, Kyulkyung.” the older one said and left.

After that day, it took a few days to them get in touch again. Jieqiong even considered about sending the other a text, but then she started to question herself if she was invading the girl’s privacy or even taking advantage from the liberty she had with her.

Nayoung looked for her after a few days, showing up in front of her door visibly tired.

“Come in, do you want something to drink?” she offered while the girl was sitting in the couch.

“Do you have any alcohol there?” she asked with her head between her hands.

Minutes later the owner of the house showed up with a cup full of brandy and peanuts. At first Nayoung found weird the girl’s taste for drinks, which was also visible, that is why she explained without the older girl asking anything.

“I got the taste for brandy from my father.” she gave a sad smile. Oh, she wished she didn’t like this drink. “Do you want to talk?”

“Not now.” denied with her head and drank everything in one shot.

Wanting to avoid an uncomfortable Nayoung, Jieqiong went back to what she was doing on her computer before the taller knocked on her door.

“Some unknown man called me today trying to call me for a date.” Jieqiong said after fifteen minutes of pure silence getting the attention from the girl who was staring into the television that was off. “I found out that my mom gave my new number to guy I don’t know because she wanted me to go out with him.”

“Your mother did that?” she asked holding one of her eyebrows up.

“I’m on the other side of the country, but that don’t stop her.” she gave a sad smile.

They kept the conversation going. Nayoung didn’t say what happened that night, but on the next one she did.

In the followings weeks too. They always met each other, almost every day before Jieqiong go to work and Nayoung go home to wait her sister. Their friendship got stronger, they were much more closer than before; even though they still don’t say what the other should do, sometimes one would ask for advice.

They definitely started to know more about each other after they finally met.

And Nayoung was getting more and more comfortable with Jieqiong, and maybe that wasn’t such a good thing, but she hasn't realized that yet.
