Goddess Mistakentwenty-two
“What do you think she’s up to?” Kai asks aloud, his hands having stopped in their work.
Sehun and Chanyeol exchange glances before the latter answers. “Isn’t it better if we just concentrated on our work, rather than worrying about Seph? I think she’d probably get angry if we don’t carry out our duties properly,” Chanyeol shrugs, even as he is untying the knots on their bags of weaponry – godly weaponry consisting of some interesting tridents, spears, gold-hilted swords and varying other things that humans probably had no name for.
“I suppose,” Kai replies quietly. He looks out in the direction of the skyscraper sitting almost at the centre of the city, reaching high into the sky as the black storm clouds continue to swirl and rumble above the land. The rain doesn’t look like it’ll let up any time soon, continually battering the earth with each drop.
Sehun puts down what he’s holding and stands beside Kai. “Look, Kai, like Chanyeol said, there isn’t really any use for you to be so worried over her. She’ll be fine, I’m sure of it. At least, I’m sure she will not be meeting her end any time soon while I’m still here beside you, or did you forget that we’re the death deities?”
Kai shakes his head and sits down on the ground. Here they are at one of the top floor of one of the many buildings she had marked down on a map. She had made sure that they all surrounded the skyscraper she’d be going to, forming a barrier around it, so that when the time came, every assembled god would be able to spring into action and capture Cronus, once and for all.
“This rain really needs to stop. D’you reckon Zeus would be able to stop all this rain? It’s making my hair all curly,” Chanyeol complains. He pats down his hair but stray strands bounce around, untameable under this weather. Sehun laughs at his friend as he assembles bits of their equipment together.
Ignoring their antics behind him, Kai just stares out at the skyscraper, wondering if he’d be able to see her from such a far distance away. He knows that she’ll be on the top floor as well, so that’s where he looks. However, the glass windows only reflect the brooding sky, leaving him unable to see inside.
He could literally just teleport over to check on her, but then again, he can just imagine the angry face she’d make if he did that, abandoning his job for others to do. His lips quirk up slightly at the thought. Then again, Kai can’t quite believe that he, Hades God of the Underworld, is being put to work like everyone else. Only she can make me do this, he rolls his eyes.
“Alright, we need to get everything set up –”
“Yeah, we’re done here,” Chanyeol interrupts, spreading his hands out to show that indeed, every piece of equipment they’d brought had been assembled, as well as one of the critical pieces needed for creating a barrier.
Kai lets out a sigh,
