a/n: adapted from an actual experience that happened to me lmaooo but i can't remember the wordings we used so yeap. can't remember what exactly we did or what exactly happened because i have a poor memory. pretty embarrassing if that friend reads this rn but who cares i have nothing to hide from her anyway HAHA happy birthday xiening!! this fic has no relation to her birthday though. lol

I sighed at my mobile phone once again as the reply came in. 

"What's wrong?" I turned to see Bora with a bemused expression. 

"Nothing," I smiled at my classmate anyway and shook my head.

Sorry Mimi yah, we can only have lunch till 2 because I have to meet him later.

I released a small, bitter chuckle, and replied: It's okay Xiening, we'll meet at 1 right?

My classmates were about done with their meal, but I was still waiting. The battery percentage on my phone was decreasing as I occupied myself with a game that I had just recently installed.

Sorry Mimi yah! We're delaying it till 1.15 :( Can you wait? came the message from the person I was waiting for, but definitely not the message I was wishing for.

I frowned. It wasn't even 1pm yet! And that meant that I needed to wait even longer. It didn't help that a stomachache was approaching because I was growing hungry. 

I felt a little troubled. We both knew that I had to return to school after the lunch. But more so because, Xiening had to meet someone. Again. 

To be honest, I was slightly annoyed. Only slightly, because I knew (hoped) that Xiening still liked me more. And that this was probably just a passing feeling. Probably.

To be very honest, I haven't been a wonderful friend either. Far from that, in fact. Sally was a model student; she excelled in her studies, she was a student councillor. I was naturally envious of her good grades that she seemed to get so effortlessly (though deep inside I knew she actually did struggle. Sometimes.) 

Along with that, almost everyone in the school knew her. And she had a kind heart, one that can never possibly be competed with. Which means, she had a lot of friends and was probably kind and caring to many people that the side she showed me and the love she showered me with (probably?) isn't one that's special for me. I knew I was being selfish, but isn't it only human to feel a little possessive?

I never told Xiening that. I wondered if she knew.
