Never Let You Go
I Knew You Were Trouble“Still no news from the boyfriend?”
Ryeowook snapped out of his empty thoughts, glancing to his friend. He set his phone aside and smiled weakly as he shook his head, thanking Sungmin quietly for the coffee. Glancing back at the test papers in front of him, Ryeowook picked up his pen and begun reading through them again. He read it twice before realizing that nothing was making any sense for him right now. He was too distracted and his emotions were all over the place.
Ryeowook heard Sungmin sighing from the table and then looked at his friend who was still watching him from his table. “I’m worried for you, Wookie.”
Ryeowook shrugged his shoulders, “I’m fine.”
“You’re not.” Sungmin quickly said. “Rock and Roll’s gone for only like two days and you’re already moping around like this.”
Ryeowook chuckled quietly. “Min, his name is Donghae.”
“Oh whatever.” Sungmin waved it off. “The fact is that he’s only gone for two days and you’re already moping around staring at his picture all day on your phone. And the both of you are not even official yet.”
Ryeowook sighed, “I just miss him.”
“Well… If he misses you too, he would have called you the minute he landed, didn’t he?” Sungmin raised an eyebrow, “And I doubt the flight to Taiwan takes two whole days.”
Ryeowook hated to admit it but Sungmin was right. Donghae should have called him, he promised Ryeowook he would call once he arrived safely in Taiwan. But two days passed since Donghae had left and there were still no updates from the blonde bad-boy. Ryeowook was starting to get worried. What if something happened to Donghae? Or what if… What if Donghae didn’t want to call Ryeowook? What if Donghae met someone else who was more interesting than him?
They weren’t exactly officially together and that made Ryeowook a little bit more anxious than usual. Donghae never drew the line of what was expected now that Ryeowook thought about it. Donghae had even allowed Ryeowook to go on a date with Kyuhyun. He mentioned that he didn’t like it but… He still wanted Ryeowook to go out with anyone guy. What if Donghae expected the same? Would Ryeowook be okay with the thought of Donghae going on dates with someone else? No… Ryeowook admitted that he didn’t really like it.
“Maybe he’s busy.” Ryeowook tried to explain to Sungmin who only gave Ryeowook a serious look.
“Busy doing what exactly, Wookie?”
Ryeowook again shrugged, “Work.”
“Which is?”
Ryeowook huffed and threw his hands in the air, “I don’t know okay? Look… Let’s just stop talking about Donghae.”
Sungmin gave Ryeowook a small smile and reached across his table to pat Ryeowook’s hands. “I’m sorry I’m giving you such a hard time. I’m just worried for you. I don’t know this guy and I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“I understand, Minnie.”
“How about this?” Sungmin suggested, “A few of us are going out on Friday night. Why don’t you join us?”
Ryeowook shrugged his shoulders. He had no plans for the night so he didn’t mind following along. It would be a good distraction to get over missing Donghae as well. Sungmin beamed and told Ryeowook that he had to go to class early to prepare for a lesson, leaving Ryeowook alone again in the staff room. Once Sungmin was out of sight, Ryeowook pulled out his phone and then quietly sighed again as the screen lit up. The picture Ryeowook had snapped with Donghae at the zoo was now Ryeowook’s wallpaper.
Ryeowook traced Donghae’s picture, his heart aching as he whispered quietly, “Where are you, Lee Donghae?”

“Ryeowook?”
Ryeowook tilted his head up to a charming smile greeting him. Ryeowook smiled politely as the person slid into the seat opposite of him. Ryeowook was having lunch break in the pantry of their staff room. He wanted to be alone today since he had planned to have a quick lunch and get back to work as soon as he could – There were loads of papers to grade by this week.
“I haven’t seen you around lately.” Kyuhyun told Ryeowook, “How have you been?”
Ryeowook chuckled softly, “Pretty busy grading papers these past few days.”
“Ah, I see.” Kyuhyun nodded and then gestured his chin towards Ryeowook’s lunch, “You brought your own lunch from home?”
“Yeah, I made fried rice breakfast this morning but there were too many leftover so I decided to pack some for lunch.”
“Judging from how it looks, you must be a great cook.”
Ryeowook grinned, noticing that Kyuhyun had been staring at his rice ever since he sat down with him, “You’re just saying it just so I’d let you try some of it, am I right?”
Kyuhyun winked at Ryeowook and then laughed shyly making Ryeowook giggle at how cute he was being right now. Ryeowook then pushed the rice towards him, gesturing for Kyuhyun to try some of it. Kyuhyun then picked up the spoon and scooped some into his mouth. His eyes squeezed shut as he moaned while he chewed slowly. Once he was done, he quickly slit his eyes opened once again and gazed admirably at Ryeowook.
“I’d give my whole life to have you cook for me.” Kyuhyun complimented Ryeowook, “You really cook well.”
Ryeowook smiled, thanking Kyuhyun for the compliment. They continued chatting with each other mostly about how their classes went for the day and exchanged stories about their students. Some were pretty interesting and funny and Ryeowook found that Kyuhyun was even more talkative than before. He looked more comfortable too. Plus, Kyuhyun had exchanged his contacts for glasses and Ryeowook hated to admit this but he was a er for guys who looked good with glasses.
This was the first time after their date that they had met. Kyuhyun had texted me that night and told him that he had a good time and Ryeowook… Well… Ryeowook was with Donghae and he had forgotten to text back. It was only when Sungmin asked Ryeowook how the date went that he realized that he had forgotten all about it. But Ryeowook didn’t respond, not knowing how or what else to reply Kyuhyun. Instead, he just set it aside. Now that he was with Kyuhyun again, he wondered if he had hurt the other by not replying. But Kyuhyun didn’t look too troubled by it, in fact he was the one who started this whole conversation. So maybe, Kyuhyun didn’t mind and it wasn’t a big deal at all.
Their conversation started from weird students in their classes to the kinds of food they liked to eat to desserts and then to cheesecakes. Kyuhyun, Ryeowook found out, also had a sweet tooth like him. They both liked their dessert and especially cheesecake and Ryeowook couldn’t be happier sharing the joy of cheesecake with Kyuhyun. Ryeowook told Kyuhyun that he knew of a cafe selling the best cheesecake he had ever tasted in his life and Kyuhyun’s eyes sparkled.
“Are you… Should we…” Kyuhyun laughed off his nervousness, “We should check the place out together one day.”
Ryeowook eagerly nodded, “I’d recommend the strawberry cheesecake. It’s not too sweet but it’s delicious!”
Kyuhyun laughed, “I’ve never seen you so excited like this.”
“I don’t think you understand my love for cheesecake,” Ryeowook playfully pouted.
Kyuhyun laughed and they continued chatting until Ryeowook realized that he had spent nearly forty-five minutes with Kyuhyun. He didn’t plan for this and he had work to do! But as he finished up his lunch and told Kyuhyun that he had to get back to work, Ryeowook found himself smiling with a light feeling in his chest.
That was when he realized that that was the first time since Donghae left that Ryeowook actually had enough appetite to finish up his whole meal.

The next morning, a small gift greeted Ryeowook at work.
There was a triangular-shaped card box package with a red ribbon tied above it. Ryeowook glanced around confused and then picked it up, inspecting it closely. A huge grin spread over his lips when he realized what it was. Inside the box was a strawberry cheesecake and he absolute knew where this cheesecake came from! It was from his favourite café! He didn’t need any names to know who had gotten this for him.
“Good morning, Ryeowook.”
A cool voice greeted him and Ryeowook spun around to a beaming Kyuhyun whose huge eyes were sparkling. He skipped using his contacts again today and had on his damn spectacle and he looked so fresh and handsome this early in the morning. Ryeowook greeted him a
