News and Necklaces
PyongsaengSeulgi woke up with the pain of the morning's events lodged behind her tonsils. She coughed and swore to have her blood sugar checked. She did not like fainting.
"Would you like me to get you some water?" Jihoon asked.
She nodded. The pain in prevented her from doing anything else---like continue screaming.
"I'll be right back."
Seulgi watched Jihoon as he walked toward the kitchen. His stride was identical to Yoongi's. He was definitely shorter than Yoongi but he had the same lean build. Yoongi was this man's dead grandfather, she thought.
Jihoon returned with a glass of water. She gulped it down, wishing that it was a much stronger drink.
"Feeling better?"
Seulgi stared at him blankly. In the time it had taken her to empty her glass, she had decided that she had gone mad and that Jihoon and the morning's events were part of some delusional episode. It was all those eggs that did it, she thought. "Salmonella."
"I'm sorry, did you say something?" Jihoon asked.
She couldn’t help but smile. So this is what it felt like to go crazy. Not too bad. It could have been worse. Like seeing distorted faces and ghastly shadows. Jihoon at least looked like Yoongi. She was now in fact quite proud that her subconscious has whipped up an entertaining storyline.
"All of this must be quite disturbing." Jihoon said. "Believe me, I know. But I'm afraid there's more. Do you have a computer I could borrow?"
"A computer? Certainly follow me." Seulgi let her hallucination run its course. She led Jihoon upstairs to Yoongi's studio where his computer remained untouched for years she doubted whether the wires were still working.
It gave out a soft sound when she pressed the boot button. The sound transports her back in time when Yoongi was still alive and would spend his days (and nights) lodged in his corner cooking up rhymes and whats-nots.
