Saudade

Description

'10 years from now, Yixing is no longer with us.'

Foreword

Jongdae receives a letter from his future self talking about his regrets and his wish for his past self to fix all of his mistakes that revolve around the appearance of a new transfer student. Jongdae, of course, doesn't believe a of it. So, taking the letter as a joke, he simply tucks it away into his book bag for later disposal.

That same day, a transfer student from China by the name of Zhang Yixing arrives at his school and takes the empty seat next to his. His friends decide to take the transferee under their wing and invite him to hangout. Just like how the letter predicted.

  • ‘ Your friends will invite Yixing to hangout with you all after school. Don't make him come, I mean it. Don't make him come.’

The first regret in the letter was inviting Yixing with them after school that day. However, Jongdae didn't stop it. They have fun that day, leaving that letter forgotten in as some weird coincidence.

Yixing doesn’t show up the next day. Or the day after that. Or for the next two weeks. Something horrible happened that day, something that can now never be undone.

Jongdae should have listened to the letter. He should have heeded its warning. He didn’t follow his future self’s first request. But, it isn’t the last mistake his future self wanted corrected, nor is it the main reason the present Jongdae received this letter...

  • ‘10 years from now, Yixing is no longer with us. This is our biggest regret that continues to haunt all of us to this day. We weren’t able to save him, but you can. Please, save him for us.’

Keeping that haunting paragraph in the front of his mind, Jongdae vows to do whatever he can to keep Yixing alive.

Saudade (Portuguese) - a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never return.

PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE TRIGGERED BY ANY OF THESE THEMES! THANK YOU!

A/N:

So, this is a story that was insprired by the anime and mange "Orange" by Takano Ichigo. I thought the idea of recieving a letter from your future self was an interesting take on time travel, so I decided to use the idea with my own little twists on it. The story will have the same basic plotlin, but I've made sure that this fanfic is vastly different to the anime/manga.

This story will contain triggering themes. It will get dark and deeply saddening at times. But, there will be happier times as well! Remember, no matter how alone you feel, no matter how worthless you feel, no matter how often someone hurts you (in any way, shape, or form), no matter how you may feel about yourself, no one is EVER alone in this world.

Help is available in many places in the world. It will always be there for you and and everyone else out there :)

On a happier note, I am very excited to write this story! I hope to update weekly every Friday, but since I waited until school started to finally start writing, I might not fulfill that promise. Why do I do this to myself ^^'  I hope you enjoy this story as much as I enjoy writing it!

I avoid fics with major character death and angst bc my weak can't take it, so I will preserve my poor heart and won't read this but you get a thumbs up bc of the amazing idea, incredible foreword and beautiful title (sorry I'm a portuguese-speaking overexcited puppy). I hope you get lots of readers and lots of love for this. It holds promise.

Chapter 3: I can't believe that someone actually wrote a Orange/EXO crossover and I was really delighted to find it. I love the anime so much, it left me a wreck at times but I was happy for the ending. I love that you wrote this and kept it close to the anime itself but added your own details to it.
