Meeting The Hoard

Babysitting Bangtan

The Bangtan household was a mess. That’s the first thing Jin noticed as he walked in, preparing himself for the onslaught of children his best friend, Yoongi, had roped him into watching. And who the hell had a last name like that, anyways? Their last name actually translated into bulletproof. Weird.

To answer the question ‘who had a name like that,’ apparently the kind of people who adopt 5 boys between the ages of 16 and 4 while also attempting to work full time jobs, leaving said delightful brats with a babysitter. Or so Yoongi had said. Seokjin was just grateful for the opportunity to work for well paying people, because he hadn’t been able to land any teaching-related jobs he had been hoping for over the summer. And when he returned to his college in the Fall, two years into his education, he was hoping to have experience in caring for children.

“Hello, there! You must be Seokjin!” Jin smiled politely at the blonde woman standing in front of him, grinning widely.

“I actually prefer Jin, Ma’am.” He replied, still holding onto his smile, and she winked conspiratorially at him

“Okay, Jin! Let’s take you on a tour of the house, and then you can meet the boys!” She said, gesturing towards the hallways in front of them. The large home was covered in toys and clothing, sweatshirts hanging off the banister and hats stacked on the bench by the door. Children’s toys were sprawled out around a chest in the living room, when she showed him said room. Once she had covered the kitchen (“Most of my boys can feed themselves, and Hobi will help you feed Kookie!”) and the living room (“They’re allowed to make as much of a mess as they want in here, I won’t force you to try to get them to clean up!”) and the game room (‘Make sure the twins don’t try to play air hockey or pool with Kookie on the table again, please!”) she finally guided him to the bottom of the stairs.

“Their bedrooms are all on the second and third floors. The older boys are on the third floor and the younger three are on the second floor. I’ll take you to meet them now.” Jin nodded, though his brain was occupied trying to remember his way around the extravagant home. “Twins! Get Jungkook and bring him out here, please!” She called once they reached the top of the stairs.

The first boy to appear was thin as a rail with big eyes and pastel pink hair. He was significantly taller than the second to emerge, whose wild black hair seemed tame compared to who Jin assumed to be his twin’s.

“I’m Taehyung but call me Tae. I like dramas and food.” He grinned widely, voice weirdly deep for such a cute face, and Jin waved timidly from behind their mother. The second boy emerged moments later, leading Jin to notice the height and appearance difference.

“I’m Jimin, but my family calls me ChimChim. I am not actually a twin, I’m older!” He stuck his tongue out at the younger boy, who was grinning widely back at him. The smaller boy in Jimin’s arms let out an indignant huff before Jimin released him. He plopped on the floor unceremoniously. His mother pulled him off the floor with an exaggerated eye roll.

“This here is Jungkook. He’s a bit stubborn and cranky at the moment because he has been refusing to nap lately. Introduce yourself.” She directed the last part to Jungkook, who buried his face into his mother’s sweater. She sighed. And waited. Eventually, he turned back and grimaced at Jin.

“I’m Kookie. I don’t like naps.” He mumbled, returning his face to his mother’s neck promptly.

“He speaks really well for being so young… You’re only 4, right, Kookie?” Jin asked, taking the initiative. The little boy leaned back, and grinned just slightly.

Yep!” He called out, and squirmed until his mother put him down. He turned and held his arms out for Jin to pick him up. Jin reached down and bounced the boy up, onto his hip. He placed his arm around his waist and let him get settled. He looked up to see Mrs. Bangtan staring at him with kind eyes.

“We’re 14, by the way!” Tae said, drawing the attention back to the two boys standing next to them still. “Can we go play our video game now, Tzuyu?” He finished, eyes meeting hers. She flushed but gestured to them that they could.

“We adopted Chim and Tae just about a year ago, and they’re still not really comfortable calling us their parents.” She shrugged. “Onto my oldest boys!” She grinned widely, and Jin let out a quiet laugh as he followed, Kookie still dozing on his hip.

The first room they came to had the door ajar, and inside, Jin could see an array of workout items and dance paraphernalia. There was a small bed pushed against the wall, covered in a random assortment of brightly colored crocheted blankets. Also on the bed was a boy of about average height and stature. He had his headphones in and was nodding along to whatever was playing on his laptop, which was open in front of him. Tzuyu knocked lightly at the doorframe, and the boy removed the headphones long enough to hear her say, “Hobi, can we come in darling?” The boy’s answering grin was enough for her, and she pushed the door the rest of the way open before walking inside. Jin hesitantly followed. Hobi, as he had heard Tzuyu call him, grinned and waved happily at Jin, who waved back awkwardly. “This is my little ray of sunshine, my brightside, my Hobi. We’ve had him since he was just a year old.” She said proudly, gesturing at the teenager. He smiled brightly, and Jin understood the praise.

“Nice to meet you!” He chirped, and Jin grinned honestly in return, shifting Kookie so that the boy would stay comfortable. He reached out a hand and shook Hobi’s. “My full name is Hoseok. I’m 16, but I’ll be 17 in a couple months.” His attitude was so friendly and welcoming that Jin couldn’t stop grinning.

“What are you listening to?” Jin asked, trying to make friends with the pleasant boy.

“Just a mixtape my little brother put out. It’s actually amazing. I’m working on some choreography for him, and then our Dad is going to help us shoot a video for it.” Hobi proudly announced, grinning widely. “Jimin and I will do the dancing, though. Genius boy cannot dance.” He giggled, and though Jin didn’t really understand, he laughed along. Mrs. Bangtan shook her head.

“Well, I’m going to introduce this one to the last Bangtan. Your father and I are going out to eat tonight, and so tonight will be a test run. Try to keep your brothers under control for poor Jin, please.” Hobi nodded, already sliding his headphones back on.
