Heartbeat

Description

Soulmates; your other half, one to spend your whole life with and then the next life to come. All teenages at the age of 16 recieve a tattoo; identical to their soulmates. This tattoo is embedded into their skin overnight and cannot be erased or removed by any aspects. Shin Min Ah, a high schooler with different beliefs, was given a heartbeat on her left wrist; one single beat. Her mother adored it, her school friends always exclaims how artistic it looked. Her teacher would even say how it symbolized life and how Minah should do anything in her capacity to hold onto it dearly.

However, Shin Min Ah thought of her tattoo as a curse. Multiple occasions had passed where she tried to erase it, but with no prevail. All that would remain would be red sore skin, with the proclaimed heartbeat left. Unable to live with the fact of the tattoo, she left herself with only option. Covering it up, “masking your true self”, her mother constantly pointed out with disapproval . The girl would wear bandages, use make-up, or conceal it with long sleeves.

“There is no such thing as soulmates”

Her strong belief was that soulmates were all falsely processed.

“It’s fake love not real love.”

But everything changed when a new student came into class; one that caught her eye.

Foreword

“Where’s your tattoo?”

“I don’t have one.”

“Well of course you do, we all do.”

“These tattoo’s are just labels for false love, I want to be able to fall in love with someone on my own, that’s what real love is.”
