Yonnguk’s P.O.V

He walked beside her, hands delved deep in his pockets as he watched her with undivided attention, her face buried in the pages of her favourite book and earbuds in as she kept to her regular routine stroll through the park. He’d lost count of how many times he’d actually read the book from over her shoulder, immersing himself in the same little world she had from cover to cover, and he’d be lying if he said he hadn’t grown the slightest bit fond of the book that she loved so dearly.

He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and nudged her sideways as strangers crossed her path and she nearly collided with them, her head snapping up as she came to an abrupt stand still and looked behind her before reaching one of her hands up to touch the spot he had just moments ago and he smiled, watching her shake her head and write it off as one of those ‘feelings’.

It was weird, his situation at least, because he wasn’t your typical guardian angel; in fact, he wasn’t an angel at all anymore. He was fallen, an angel of disgrace; a demon. And unlike his fellow demons, who fed on the souls of innocent human beings like herself, he made a vow to protect her and keep her safe from anyone or anything that tried to do her harm. 

At first he had watched her from the shadows, captivated and intrigued by her human habits and beauty. He wanted so badly to reveal himself to her after months of falling into routine with her, but he knew that a shimmering crimson tail didn’t come off as all too human, so he stayed concealed; contenting himself by just staying by her side and providing her what protection and comfort he could.

But as he started developing feelings for her his jealous nature would often overpower his common sense, so whenever someone of the opposite would get too close or begin flirting with her, hot coffee was spilled on their lap, they suddenly tripped, etc. He just couldn’t help it.

Now they were nearing the intersection, and she was once again immersed in her own little world with her music up a little too loud, unaware that a few more steps would ultimately take her directly into oncoming traffic.

Your P.O.V

You hadn’t been able to shake the feeling of being followed, the feeling that had stuck with you for almost a year now. It was about the same time you began feeling those cold, ghost like hands that seemed to always grab your attention before minor mishaps occurred.

You felt your hair flutter, wisps of it falling against your cheek and causing you to once more look up, eyes wide as you realized that your foot was dangling over the curb. A truck passed, sending your hair up in a whirlwind as it passed and your face flushed as you realized that you were mere seconds away from being hit.

You obviously had a guardian watching over you, it was the only thing that ever made sense considering that there was not a breath of wind that day and that wasn’t the first time something like that has happened. “Thank you.” you whispered, your face tilted towards the side that your hair had fluttered to get your attention before you marked your page and decided that you had read enough, now fully aware and alert of your surroundings as you made your way home.

Yongguk’s P.O.V

That was the first time she had thanked him and he knew that she was slowly becoming aware of his ever present aura around her. He backed off slightly during the daytime but it was at night when he went on high alert. 

He watched her getting ready for bed, her making him blush and turn away to give her some privacy. Even though she couldn’t see him, he wasn’t going to take advantage of that, he felt too strongly for her, respected her too much to sink to that level of ersion. It was only when he heard her covers rustle and the light flicker off that he turned and sat protectively by her side, daring any other demon to even set foot in her room.

It was the wee hours of morning, he unintentionally fell asleep, when he felt the bed sheets tugging and writhing beneath him. He snapped up, sensing something was amiss and when he looked over to check on her he came face to face with Daehyun, another demon, hovering over her. He saw the distress on her face and the faint light that resonated in the space between them. He was feeding on her.

He shoved the other man away, jumping over her tormented sleeping form and landing with a heavy thud as Daehyun got his footing back. He was seething with anger, hand snapping out with lightening speed to grip the others throat and pushing him against the wall with another hard thud. “I told you she was off limits.” he growled which only made Daehyun smirk.

“Look at you. In love with a human. It’s sickening really.” he spat which only caused Yongguks hand to further tighten around his throat.

“Get out.” he replied through clenched teeth and in an instant Daehyun was gone, leaving only dark smoke.

“I know you’re there, I heard you.” he froze at the sound of her voice and turned to find her looking in his general direction, eyes scanning all over the area for any sign of where he was.

“Go back to sleep.” his voice was deep and he watched as her eyes widened, the first time he had ever spoken directly to her, allowing her to finally know he was there.

“Please, show yourself.”

Your P.O.V

The air around you stilled, filled with an eerie silence as you waited, slowly beginning to think you were going crazy. Finally he emerged from the shadows beside your bed, he moonlight illuminating his handsome face and you gasped. “Who are you?”

He stayed a safe distance from you, still half concealed in the shadows as his dark eyes bore into yours. “I’m Yongguk.” his voice sent shivers down your spin, flesh breaking out into goose bumps. There was no doubt this man was he same one who’s presence you felt, even as he stood before you you felt that same watchful eye that comforted you and protected you.

You tossed your blankets back, standing up as you cautiously moved towards him. “Are you my guardian angel?” you questioned and watched as he slowly backed himself back up into darkness, the only thing you could see now were those dark, glowing orbs watching you intently.

“Not exactly. Don’t come any closer.” he warned and you stopped dead a few inches from where he stood, backed into the corner of your room with no where else to go. 

“Why? I’m not going to hurt you, I just want to see you.” you told him trying to coax him out of the darkness.

“I know that, but I might frighten you.” he replied and you could sense the sorrow in his voice. You raised your hand slowly, reaching out to him in the darkness until you felt his cold skin come into contact with your palm. You brushed past his nose and gingerly cupped his cheek, watching his glowing eyes close briefly before you felt his cold grip on your wrist and they opened again.

“Please, come out.” you whispered and he obliged, slowly emerging from the shadows and directly into the moonlight. The first thing that caught your eye was the shimmer of a crimson tail that glinted so brightly it illuminated the room around you too and your eyes went wide. He gazed into your eyes heatedly, watching your reaction. “If you’re not an angel, then…?”

He looked away. “I’m a demon. I understand if you’re scared.” he said but you pulled his face back to look at you. How could you be afraid of the person who has protected you for so long.

“So it was you. The one who has looked after me all this time. The one who soothed my nightmares. Thank you.” you said and leaned up to peck his cheek. His eyes widened at this simple action. “Please stay with me, don’t hide.”

You took him by the hand and lead him to your bed, finding comfort knowing he was by your side as you laid down. “I will never leave your side.” he murmured in your ear as he laid next to you, wrapping you up in his arms protectively and snaking his tail around your body. No a thing was going to happen to you as long as he was around.
