Love Explosion

Very Nice! (you and I)

“Are you sure about this, Hao, I mean, don't get me wrong, but why are you bringing me along with you and Junhui-hyung's date? Won't I be a third wheel,” Mingyu inquired for the fifth time since they left the younger brunette's apartment. And, for the fifth time, Minghao not-so-gently shoved the taller man with his bony elbow causing him to almost bump into a very offended looking salary-man. “Stop doing that, I swear I made at least three new enemies,” he huffed childishly. Actually, the weather was perfect for going out and Mingyu, who was not at all petty let the record be show, was a bit jealous that Junhui was stealing his best-friend from him. Everyday all Minghao talked about was Junhui; the thin man could only talk about his girlfriend. Not even Soonyoung, their other taken friend, didn't gush about his girlfriend this much.

Minghao pinched Mingyu's side bringing the giant out of his mind. “Ouch, what was that for!”

Minghao raised a brow, Do I need to explain myself? To which Mingyu responded wordlessly with a raised brow of his own, Yes, you do. Telepathic communication, just another perk of being best-friends and possibly the only thing that was kept sacred between the duo. Mingyu wasn't petty, but he did enjoy the look of frustration across Junhui's face when he and Minghao communicated with their eyes only. Of course, most of it consisted of Mingyu grinning and Minghao either glaring or rolling his eyes.

Shoving his hands into his pockets, Mingyu's head snapped up as he heard the tell tale sign of love, quickly running behind Minghao in a comical fashion as he used the much shorter and thinner guy's body to hide him.

See, that was the problem with society, Mingyu thought as he looked into the distance where pieces of paper were falling, people know when you fall in love with your soulmate. Science says that matter cannot be created nor destroyed, but if that's the truth where the hell does all the confetti come from when you fall in love?

“You okay back there,” Minghao grunted as Mingyu rested his large hands on his shoulders. “Remember when me and Junhui met and how you freaked out,” the short brunette continued on with glee as if remembering Mingyu's suffering was a great was to pass the time. Mingyu made a mental note not to let Minghao hang out with Junhui's producer friend Jihoon for too long, the younger is getting a tad bit too sadistic for his liking.

“Who could forget,” Mingyu drawled with a huff as he took his place beside the brunette again.

Mingyu remembered the two meeting like it was yesterday. He and Minghao were walking to the library to return books-

“You mean you were cowering behind me,” Minghao reminded the taller man with a sly grin.

Okay, so, Mingyu may or may not have been hiding behind Minghao but that was neither here nor there! “You know how I don't like loud noises,” Mingyu complained which had only made the following series of events cruel of the universe.

It was a normal day, just like this, but then Junhui happened. It was straight out of a poorly done romcom where the protagonist, Minghao, bumped into a hot guy, grudgingly Junhui, and it was love at first sight. A double-confetti explosion went off and in the hectic beauty of it all, Minghao found Mingyu hiding behind a nearby tree once all the colourful paper settled onto the ground and slowly started to disintegrate into sparkling powder. While Junhui often teased Mingyu for his fear of loud noises, the elder knew when to stop. Mingyu wasn't quite sure when his fear started, but most likely when he got lost during a hike while a thunderstorm rolled in. Since then, he always associated loud roars with something scary.

And, it made sense. Love is scary and he felt like the loud mushroom clouds of confetti were a warning sign instead of a meant-to-be-with sign.

“Oh, look, there's Junnie-hyung,” Minghao said as he dragged Mingyu over to the amusement park gates.

“What's up, Haohao,” Junhui commented as he brought in the bubbly brunette for a small kiss. Mingyu made a disgusted noise as the blonde peppered his best-friend in butterfly kisses. He looked around the area only to find many couples doing the same thing, but Mingyu's eyes met a little girl's equally disgusted face and he couldn't help but smile. She got it.

Minghao wrapped his arms around Junhui's torso as the two finally stopped faces. “I got everyone's ticket already, we're just waiting on my friend Wonwoo.”

Wait, friend? Mingyu blinked at Minghao's sheepish grin and counted the people. So, that would make Junhui and Minghao and him and this Wonwoo guy. Mingyu blinked as he stared at his fingers, counting down the group. That would make four people and—oh goddammit was this a set up?

“Minghao, is this a blind date,” Mingyu hissed quietly.

“Hyung, you refuse to meet other people because you're scared of explosions, but trust me on this one. And it's not a guarantee you'll like him so let's just wait and see, okay?” Mingyu, much like Junhui, couldn't deny Minghao anything, especially when the younger pulled those large puppy-dog eyes on them. Shoulders slumped, Mingyu nodded.

“Hey, there's Wonwoo now. Wonwoo!” Minghao and Mingyu looked to the direction Junhui was waving in.

Suddenly, Mingyu's chest tightened and he found it hard to breath as he stared at the man walking with a lazy gait and bored eyes. His skin was paler than his, but still glowed beautifully under the noon sun. The man had on ripped jeans—why was one hole so dangerously up his thigh?—that hugged his legs like a second skin, a plain black shirt and dark red boat shoes. “Sorry I'm late.” Oh god how can his voice be so deep? “Who is this?”

Mingyu's eyes widened as Wonwoo stared at him. A feeling that Mingyu's managed to avoid bubbled up through the surface; his heart raced, cheeks reddened, and palms started to sweat. No, no, no, no this isn't good.

Before anyone could get a word in, Mingyu ran into the amusement park without a word leaving behind a confused Wonwoo and disappointed Minghao.

Wonwoo grunted as he wiped down the bar, ignoring Junhui's intense stare but he only had so much patience and he's had his fill of drunkards about their life. “I don't have time for whatever it is you have to say,” Wonwoo stated before Junhui could even open his mouth. Junhui clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth as he tapped a long finger against the glossy oak counter.

Why Wonwoo was even friends with a man like Junhui was a mystery—eighth wonder of the world. Junhui was a fox, sly and cunning, and always seemed to have ulterior motives. Usually, Wonwoo wouldn't be able to stand people who always seemed like they had a secret but Junhui was different. Deep down the blonde was caring, always looking out for his friend's well-being, and acted like a mom. Wonwoo figured the mom side took over when the idiot and his boyfriend who could probably do better set him on a blind date. Mingyu was cute, Wonwoo would admit, but he really didn't seem very special. “You guys just didn't talk much, trust me, Mingyu is actually rather cute once you get to know him. Reminds me of a puppy, really.” Slopping the wet rag down, Wonwoo leaned over the counter with a frown.

“I don't like dogs,” he reminded the blonde matter-of-fact. “And I'm not interested in dating anyway. Especially if that means I end up like you and Minghao.” Junhui pouted as Wonwoo shivered in disgust.

“You're just jealous because I have someone. I'm serious here, Wonu. You just don't want to date because you hate confetti.”

Rolling his shoulders, Wonwoo sighed. It was true, he hated confetti because every time his friends would find their soulmate he'd be left behind. Seriously, who's lucky enough to find their soulmates in high-school? Apparently every single one of Wonwoo's used-to-be friends. He clenched and unclenched his jaw, glaring down at the shiny wood that vaguely reflected his features. “Mingyu hates it too, you know, the whole confetti explosion soulmate thing.”

This piqued Wonwoo's interest. “Really...?”

“Yeah, terrified if I'm being honest,” Junhui chuckled softly, “he's super afraid of loud noises. Minghao told me about the time they were walking around Hongdae once, and suddenly this explosion goes off near them, right?” Junhui made a show of his arms as he talked about the love explosion. “People were cheering and stuff for the couple, but Mingyu was gone. So, Minghao was looking around but turns out Mingyu was hiding under a table.” Wonwoo hummed as he rocked on his heels. Mingyu didn't seem like the type to easily scare but he couldn't help but find the idea of a scrunched up Mingyu cute. “Oh, was that a smile I saw,” Junhui leered with a waggle of his eyebrows. Scoffing, Wonwoo gently slapped the dirty rag against the blonde's hand before he went to organize the alcohol behind him.

Taking inventory, he turned to see an expectant Junhui. “Okay, fine, I'll give him a chance.”

“Good, because I invited them here.” And of course he did. Wonwoo was about to chastise the man but the tell-tale ring of the doorbell had alerted him that Mingyu might already be here. Junhui shot him a quick smile before he turned in his seat and waved Minghao and Mingyu over.

Minghao was cute but Mingyu was something else. The man was y and cute wrapped up all into one. Wonwoo his suddenly dry lips as he stared at the tanned boy's exposed collar bone.

“H-hi,” Mingyu mumbled as he sat down on a stool. Wonwoo blinked, tearing his eyes away from the man's rosy cheeks to the scattered customers throughout the dive bar. “Umm, a-about yesterday, sorry that I kind of avoided you, it's just that I was nervous...”

Wonwoo chuckled and said, “Nah, it's fine, I thought I stunk or something—“

“N-no, you smell really nice,” Mingyu blurted out before he quickly slapped a hand over his mouth. Wonwoo smiled softly at the younger's flushed face, about to say something, but Junhui's guffawing had him glaring at the blonde. Minghao seemed to have the same feeling because the youngest was whispering heated words to the man that made him shut up immediately. As Mingyu's blush started to die down, he slowly lowered his hands and looked around nervously. Bars were never his place nor Minghao's. Despite Mingyu's extrovert personality, he didn't like the idea of being around loud and obnoxious people and also alcohol tasted like he was drinking nail-polish remover. He preferred a more intimate place, like a friend's house or a small party, but anything over twenty people and he felt suffocated.

“Would you like something to drink,” Wonwoo commented, feeling slightly upset when Mingyu's eyes weren't on him for some reason. “I can get you some water if you want. It's kind of early to be drinking any hard alcohol.”

“Mingyu doesn't like alcohol anyway,” Minghao commented as he turned his attention to the duo much to Junhui's disappointment. Wonwoo chuckled as he saw his friend pout, sliding a bottle of water towards Mingyu. “You want anything, Minghao?”

“No, I'm good. Hey, when does your shift end? We're thinking about going to the mall.”

Wonwoo tilted his head and stared at Mingyu, “You like to shop?”

Junhui piped in, “No. We had to bribe him with the promise of buying him food if he comes.” Mingyu puffed out his cheeks, leaning back, as he gave the blonde a small glare before turning his attention back to Wonwoo.

“I don't like shopping with them because they take hours in just one store and it's mostly because they're too busy kissing instead of looking for clothes,” Mingyu commented with a smirk. Wonwoo let out an 'ah' noise as he stared at Minghao's guilty face. The triumphant gleam in Mingyu's eyes was rather cute, Wonwoo mused as he debated if he should go or not. It's not like he's going on a date with Mingyu, and he was interested in getting to know the brunette more so he didn't see the harm in going shopping. If anything, he could probably talk about Junhui with the younger who seemed like he'd readily agree with his sentiments.

“Alright, I get off in an hour.”

Wonwoo watched with amusement as Junhui cheered and Mingyu grinned brightly.

“But if you two start making out in front of me I'm out.”

Mingyu nodded his head vigorously, “Same.”

Things happened slowly with Wonwoo. He learned at a slower pace, walked slower despite his long legs, and preferred more calm activities to hectic ones. That's why, when Junhui invited him to either go out clubbing or spend some time at the apartment with Mingyu, he chose Mingyu. Of course, Junhui probably took it differently if the teasing over the phone about how he was in love was any indication. It's just that Wonwoo preferred quiet evenings and clubs were never really his thing. The woman there always hit on him and didn't know when to take a hint and the guys there were just plain disgusting sometimes. So, that's why when Mingyu opened the door, only clad in a pair of boxers and a loose shirt blushing, he thought he made a pretty sound decision. Over the course of ten days the duo had gotten surprisingly close but Wonwoo convinced himself that Mingyu was just a good friend, nothing more.

Stepping inside, Wonwoo looked around the place. He was mildly surprised to find out Minghao and Mingyu didn't live together and that Mingyu actually lived alone. The first time Wonwoo heard of this he was taken back because, just like Junhui had said, Mingyu reminded him of a puppy and last time he checked puppies didn't do very well alone.

“This place is a mess,” Wonwoo commented as he stared at the scattered jackets on the couch, textbooks on the table, and boxes sitting next to the trashcan. Mingyu, who had the decency to come back wearing shorts, flushed a bit.

“Sorry, I forgot you were coming over...” the younger trailed off as he gathered at least five jackets in his arm and threw it onto the single seat in a messy pile. “I thought you'd go clubbing with Junhui and Minghao. No offense, but you seem like the type who would be into that.”

Wonwoo huffed as he plopped himself onto the couch, “I take great offense to that. Are you saying that I seem like one of those rowdy club-goers?” Even though Wonwoo knew he shouldn't do it, he quite liked teasing Mingyu and watching as the younger squirmed under his gaze, cheeks red and mouth hanging open. Of course, it wasn't so bad now that they were closer, but even though Mingyu grumbled how much of a jerk he was Wonwoo didn't miss the slight pinkness of his face. “So, what are we gonna do? Play games, watch a movie?”

Wonwoo turned his body to peer into the kitchen to see Mingyu popping something into the microwave. “Movie. There's a bunch beside the TV, you can pick whatever you want.”

Whatever I want, Wonwoo thought as he idly rifled through the extensive movie collection. Most of it consisted of animated movies which just screamed Mingyu that he couldn't help but chuckle. As the smell of popcorn dusted the room, Wonwoo's fingers fell deft against a title that seemed odd amongst the happy, kid-friendly ones.

“You have 'A Moment to Remember'?”

Mingyu walked into the room with a bag of popcorn in hand and two drinks. “Oh, that,” the taller commented with a crinkle of his nose. “Minghao and I were watching it but I couldn't make it through because it was so sad. Why,” the brunette went on wearily, “do you want to watch it...?”

Suddenly, a light-bulb went off in Wonwoo's mind as he turned to face the younger with a determined look. “Let's make a bet, the one who cries first has to pay the other twenty bucks.”

“You're on.”

Not even an hour in and Mingyu lost. “You're horrible,” the brunette muttered as he curled on the other side of the couch, blanket wrapped securely around him as he tried to wipe away his tears. Feeling a little bad, Wonwoo gently crawled over and wrapped his arms around the younger's waist, turning his back toward the TV as he rested his head against the arm rest. Mingyu's breath hitched at the close contact, staring down and realizing just how close Wonwoo's face was from his waist.

“You can change it if you want,” Wonwoo muttered as he yawned, wondering how weird it would be if he hid his face in curve of Mingyu's waist. Every time he slept he was used to burying his face into his pillow but Mingyu wasn't a pillow. Well, he was soft and rather squishy like one but society tended to frown at using other people as furniture or sleeping aids.

“Well, that would require me having to get up,” Mingyu joked as he gently poked Wonwoo's back. “Are you going to get up?”

Mingyu was greeted with the tightening of arms around him as the answer. Yeah, he figured as much. And so, Wonwoo stayed in that position, not even listening to the movie, as he slowly fell asleep against Mingyu. That was also the night Junhui and Minghao got enough material to tease the two for possibly the rest of their lives.

“You like Wonwoo, just admit it,” Minghao grumbled as he bit into his egg-salad sandwich. On the other side of the table, Mingyu munched on his kimbap.

Mingyu shook his head vehmently. “No, I told you, we're just friends. Wonwoo-hyung doesn't even like dogs anyway, you know I could never be with someone who doesn't like dogs,” Mingyu rationalized to which Minghao scoffed and kicked him under the table. Sure, maybe he and Wonwoo had gotten close in a short period of time but that didn't mean anything. He just liked the older man's company. It as nothing but a totally platonic friendship. Mingyu nodded to himself.

“You're an idiot.”

“We're just friends,” Mingyu repeated as he popped another piece of kimbap into his mouth.

Minghao sighed, setting his sandwich down, as he looked Mingyu straight in the eye. Uh-oh, Mingyu's seen this look before, except it was usually Junhui on the other side and Mingyu was laughing at the sidelines. “Hyung, you and Joy are friends. Me and Soonyoung-hyung are friends, but trust me when I say that you and Wonwoo-hyung don't look at each other like you're just friends.” Mingyu knew he was going to regret his next words but he said them anyway.

“Fine, how do we look at each other then?”

Minghao grinned, “You know how when me and Junhui look at each other without talking and it makes you feel uncomfortable?”

“Okay, to be fair, you make everyone in a meter radius uncomfortable when you do that and I see what you're getting at,” Mingyu said with a sigh. “I still think you're wrong.”

“Of course you do because you're a stubborn idiot.”

Mingyu really hates it when Minghao's right and that happened more times than he'd like to admit. Right now he and Wonwoo were curled up on the floor, backs pressed against the couch as a controller was in Wonwoo's grasp, fingers moving deftly over the buttons and analog stick. Mingyu liked playing games but right now he couldn't focus on it at all because the light from the window was hitting Wonwoo in such a way it looked like the man had a halo around him. All that was missing was an angelic choir as the clouds opened up to invite more sunlight into the room. Mingyu noticed Wonwoo's features from day one, the sharpness of his eyes, the chiseled jawline, fashionably messy hair, and perfect curve of his nose.

Honestly, it was all the little things Mingyu admired about Wonwoo. The way his nose would crinkle when he laughed, how his voice was heavier when sleepy, even the way his eyes slitted when annoyed made him look cute. It wasn't love though, just simple admiration. After all, Mingyu was an art major, he had a tendency to admire beautiful things.

“Ugh, this game is so stupid,” Wonwoo grumbled causing Mingyu to tear his gaze away.

“You're just saying that because you're so bad at it,” Mingyu mumbled as he watched the cursor on the screen scroll through characters. Overwatch was a fun game and, if it was anyone else, Mingyu would be eager to take the controller away and play but he didn't have the nerve to reach over and take it from Wonwoo's hands.

Wonwoo had to be really dense though because the minute he saw the younger's flushed features his brows furrowed. “Hey, are you okay? You haven't been looking too well today, are you sick?” Mingyu flinched minutely as the back of Wonwoo's hand touched his cheek. Unable to stand the physical contact, Mingyu quickly jumped up with the excuse that he had to wash his face.

“Oh my god calm down Mingyu,” the brunette muttered as he closed the door and paced around the bathroom floor. The tiles, while cold, did nothing to sooth the burn that stained his skin. It's then that Mingyu realized Minghao was right, there was no way in denying it anymore. All the things Mingyu thought were admiration was really something else. He didn't know how or when, but bit-by-bit Wonwoo invaded Mingyu's mind and being near him made his heart flutter in a good way. Struck by lightning, Mingyu stopped his pacing as he accepted his fate.

He loved Jeon Wonwoo.

Suddenly, a gust of air formed around Mingyu as a loud explosion went off from all directions around him. Instincts taking over, Mingyu screamed and knelt on the floor, covering his ears as his form shook from the shock and freight. With his ears covered, Mingyu couldn't hear the the sound of rushed footsteps and door slamming open as a figure quickly enveloped his shaking form. Wonwoo gently hugged the scared brunette, staring at the confetti on the white tiles but quickly focused on Mingyu's startled features.

“Are you okay, you're not hurt are you,” Wonwoo whispered trying to ease the brunette back into a calm state. “God, you're going to be the death of me,” Wonwoo breathed as he leaned his head against Mingyu's own. Blinking, Mingyu felt his heart speed up as Wonwoo's breath fanned across his face. Mingyu wasn't sure who leaned in first, but soon the two found their lips meeting in a shy kiss, Wonwoo's hands placed securely on Mingyu's waist and Mingyu's own tangled in Wonwoo's hair.

Another loud bang went off and Mingyu couldn't help but jump a bit, burying his head in the nook of Wonwoo's neck as the elder chuckled, rubbing his hands soothingly against the taller boy's back. As Mingyu stopped shaking, he slowly lifted his head up and stared at Wonwoo with a smile which quickly dissolved into laughter.

“Eh, what's wrong,” Wonwoo questioned with a grin of his own as he gently rubbed his thumbs against the brunette's hipbone.

Mingyu lifted a hand and took something out of Wonwoo's hair. “You have confetti on you.”

Grinning, Wonwoo didn't reply, instead he attacked the younger's neck with his mouth, enjoying the small shout of surprise as he kissed the skin greedily.

“I knew this would be a great idea,” Junhui boasted as Wonwoo and Mingyu walked towards them. Wonwoo was clinging onto Mingyu's waist while the taller man handed a brightly wrapped box over to Minghao. A month had went by since Mingyu and Wonwoo having been an official couple and the two had never looked so happy before. Minghao couldn't help but feel a spark of jealousy though as Wonwoo whispered something into the brunette's ear causing Mingyu to giggle. He suddenly knew how Mingyu felt whenever he was with Junhui but he had an inkling they might be even worse.

“Congrats on moving in with each other,” Mingyu grinned brightly, his canines peaking through. Of course, some things didn't change. Despite the loud music and chatter going on with the housewarming party, Mingyu let out a small yelp as two loud bangs went off in the house consecutively.

Soonyoung quickly ran up with a large grin on his face, “Okay, so who had money on Seungcheol and Jihoon realizing they loved each other?” The comment earned a hearty laugh from Mingyu while Minghao looked scandalized between Wonwoo and Junhui.

“Ah, and the new couple, should we start placing bets on when you'll go all the way,” Soonyoung half joked but quickly jumped as a tan, curvy female came up and gently pinched his arm.

“Sorry, is my boyfriend bothering you guys,” She said with an exhausted sigh, swatting away Soonyoung's arms but quickly gave up and let the taller man embrace her.

With a small smirk, Wonwoo and Junhui's eyes met and suddenly the blonde Chinese man let out a loud 'o' in realization. “Wouldn't matter, you would all be too late anyway,” Wonwoo smirked as he gently pinched the skin around Mingyu's waist as the brunette whined, covering his red face with his hands.

“Well, I think Mingyu and I are going to get going,” Wonwoo added with an exaggerated wink as he gently pulled the large puppy behind him. Mingyu couldn't help but groan as his friends started to whoop and holler behind them as the closed the door.

“You're really horrible,” Mingyu mumbled as Wonwoo lead him to the elevator.

Wonwoo smirked, bringing Mingyu down for a heated yet short kiss that left the younger dizzy and out of breath. “We'll see if you keep thinking that once we get back to my place.”
