Chicken Soup
MeltedWeekend has come, finally, two days of peace for Tzuyu. No schoolmates to annoy her, no morning classes, less stress. She woke up late, almost 1 in the afternoon. Looking for a food to eat, she openned the cup boards only to see nothing. With lots of things in her mind, she forgot to buy groceries. Stomach grumbling, she went back to the bathroom, washed her face and brushed her teeth. She doesn't have enough money to buy groceries so she decided to eat outside. As she picks up her jacket hanging on the chair, she thought of tutoring Sana better so she could have bigger pay.
It was really cold outside. White snow could be seen more than people. Most of the food stalls nearby were closed. Instead of going to her favorite cafe, her feet dragged her to somewhere, as if it has its own mind. Once she arrived on the place, that old chicken soup eatery, memories flashbacked nonstop. She wanted to go away. She wanted to not look at it. She wanted to turn her back and run. But she knew she can't. She knew she wanted to feel it again. The warm chicken soup served by the old lady with a sweet smile. But more than anything, the warmth she felt beside her mother.
Instead of running away, she went inside. The familiar place, the old red and white paint too old it's falling apart, the photographs of local customers with big smiles posted on the wall, the pale orange round tables, the smell of the soup. It was all too familiar to her. Flash of nostalgia splashed through her, making her stomach churn. Fighting the urge of leaving, she sat on the nearest chair. A lady in her 30s, went to her, "You look new. Since we only sell one thing here, shall I get you one?" She never saw this lady before and she can't see any similarities with the owner and her. "Where's the owner?" Tzuyu asked, pointing the big portairt on the wall. "Oh Mrs. Ahn. She sold this eatery to my mother 1 1/2 year ago before she died. I guess you're not new here after all."
