Description

Do fairytales really exist? Is there always an happy ending? Or are we too delusional to believe in them?

Prologue

"You're a cab driver!" Park Soo Man exclaimed in disgust as he looked at Jiyong from head to toe then back up again.

" This cannot happen. This is unbelievable. My daughter is not happy about this engagement," Soo Man said while pacing back and forth by the window.  I looked at Dara, who's not wearing her normal skinny jeans and white shirt, but her black slacks that are ironed and a white collared blouse that looks pristine. But does not look like the Dara that I know.

" Well, I can assure you that your daughter was very happy when I put the ring on her finger." She absolutely was. When I slid that ring on her finger, she looked at it in awe and jumped on me with happiness. She kissed me straight on the mouth and gave me butterfly kisses all over face while muttering yes on every kiss. The look in her face when she saw the small diamond on her ring could bring a man to his knees. That ring is all I could afford. I spend all my saving from working extra hours to buy her that ring. I know it's small, but it didn't matter.

" I love it Ji. It's the prettiest ring I've ever gotten in my life and I will never ask for more. As long as we're together, nothing else matter" Dara said when I told her that I will buy her another one when I become an engineer.

Then my train of thoughts went back to Soo Man when he stopped pacing and touch Dara by her shoulder.

" No she's not happy. Dara and I will be going back to the States and she will continue to finish her senior year at Cornell University and she will never comeback here again," he said while glaring at me.

The moment he said that my whole body stiffened and I looked straight at Dara, who wouldn't look at me in the eyes.

"The hell you are Sir. Dara will not leave and we will get married." I said while I tried to take Dara's hands and pull her away from her father.

"This is a mistake," Dara said in a small voice. I s my hands around her waist.

"Yes it is babe. This is a mistake. She's not leaving," I said. I felt Dara's body stiffened and slowly pulled away from me. She looked at me in the eye.

" No Ji. This is a mistake. We are a mistake," she said. Her eyes are glossy and shaking.

"What?" I asked incredulously. What is she talking about.

" I think I got caught up with" she paused and looked at her father then back to me "the whole Korea thing."

"The whole Korea thing..?" I repeated. I couldn't think anymore. It feels like that she's talking in another language.

"You're saying we're a mistake. Is that right?" I asked and I saw her hesitate, looked down at the carpet and nodded.

" I see." I walked up to her and pushed her hair out of her face. I gently pulled her chin up so she looks at me in the eyes. I leaned down and kissed her. I kissed her hoping to send all the emotions I'm pent up with. She kissed me back with the same intensity. Then I pulled back. I saw her eyes glistening with tears.

" I wish you have a good life Sandara." I turned my back to the girl I loved and her father who is slyly grinning behind her. I walked towards the door, I opened it and never looked back.

———————————————————————————————————————————————
She watched him walk away. She watched him get his heart broken. She did it all to him. It was all her fault.

As she watched the door closed, she turned around and faced her father. She kneeled down in desperation and grabbed his legs.

" I begged you father. He is not just a taxi driver. I loved him. He has great dreams and ambitions. Please. I'm begging you, let me be with him," She sobbed and sobbed and beg and beg. But all of it went to waste when she did not see the hand that is coming down towards her face. She felt a stinging pain on her cheeks so jarring that she fell on her side and hit the carpet.

" You will not do such things Sandara. Get yourself together. We will leave tonight," her father said in anger with no pity to her daughter that is limply laying on the floor.

"I will destroy him and his ambition if you ever get near him ever again. You know I do what I say and mark my words, I will destroy him." He said his last words then left the room.

Devasted and left to her nothing, she cried and scream to herself until she couldn't feel anything. She clenched her hands in a fist so tight that it made her palms bleed. She couldn't careless and continued to cry herself to numbness.

Foreword

The Fairytale

is an adaptation of the book Fairytale Comes Alive by Kristen Ashley from her series Ghosts and Reincarnations.

I wrote this adaptation because I think the original story was angsty and heart-lifting at the same time.

I needed to share this with others, but with Dara and Jiyong's fairytale.

P.S

I truly admire and respect Kristen Ashley's books.

I do not intend to plagiarize her work and I would like to give her all the credits.

Thank You!

Chapter 2: Interesting read. I'd like to see where this goes. :) Author, there might have been a slip of name in this chapter from the original story. I just want to point out because things like that distract me so much while reading. Other than that, it's good. Thank you for the story. Fighting! :)
