My Paradise

Scribbles of emotions

"Good morning, please walk straight down and you will find your seat."

The air stewardess said as she took a glance at the air ticket given to her. With a smile, Solar walked down the aisle with a hand carrying a elephant printed prints bag and another holding onto the bottom of the baby carrier, with her passport and air ticket in between.

Her six months old baby girl gurgled and she smiled at the cute voice, lowering her chin down to plant a kiss on the top of her crown.

When she found her seat, she heaved the bag over onto the cabin overhead and moved into her seat. She managed to book the last row, where it was a little bigger than the rest, hoping that it will provide her much more comfort than the rest. Since it was a last minute decision and booking, Solar only prayed that her baby girl would be good throughout the 10 hours flight.

A long and tiring 10 hours flight.

It's 7am in Seoul time and hopefully, her baby would be falling asleep when the plane takes off and slept throughout the ten hours flight till they reached. Well, she knew it was a wishful thinking, but a mother could hope right?

At least, 70% of the flight perhaps.

Solar settled down in her seat and stowed her handbag underneath the seat in front of her. With some difficulties, she unbuckled the baby carrier and pulled it away, carrying her baby in her arms as she stuffed the carrier together with her bag. Solar pulled out her handphone and typed in a message before placing it between her laps.

To: Love ♡
I'm on the plane.

Within a few minutes, her phone rang and Solar moved her attention away from her baby to check her phone.

From: Love ♡
Will pick you up from the airport. Text me when you've landed. Miss you.

Solar smiled at the text. It's been a week since she saw her love. And that's how they come to the conclusion of her coming to Gold Coast at a last minute decision.

Before she knows, the stewards starting making their rounds, closing the cabin storage and ensuring everyone has their seatbelt buckled.

"Miss, this is a baby seatbelt. Please put this through your seatbelt in this space and buckled your baby in your embrace."

An air steward smiled at her gently with a baby seatbelt in his hand. Solar nodded her head with appreciation as she took over the belt. Her baby girl staring at the air steward with her big round eyes as Solar struggled to pull out her milk bottle that was prepared earlier from the bag. When she was done, the air steward was still standing by her seat, playing with her baby. She gave a smile before putting on the baby seatbelt as the air steward stood there in case she needs assistance. When he saw that she was done, he gave a little wave to the baby before going back to his duty.

The plane took off within a few minutes and Solar was glad that she, selfishly, starved her baby girl a little. She led her milk hungrily and for once, managed to ignore the air pressure and discomfort that was building up as the plane flew up high in the sky. Things went quite well for a while as her baby girl fell asleep soon after.

It was three hours later that her baby girl woke up from her sleep and for some reasons, starting whining. Solar woke up from her sleep and started to pacify her baby girl. She took out her favourite shaker to distract her baby, but failed as she started crying loudly. Out of solution, Solar stood up and cajoled her up and down the aisle. Her baby girl calmed down from the movement, occasionally gurgled and giggled at some antics from kind hearted passengers along the aisle. Fifteen minutes later, Solar went back to her seats and placed the baby girl on her lap.

"Happy? You're happy now, aren't you?"

Her baby girl smiled at her happily, little fist waving excitedly at her side and Solar couldn't help but smiled warmly at the sight.

"Please stay as happy as you are now for the next 7 hours. Or else, mummy would be dead beat tired..."

Solar cooed at her baby girl and her baby let out a small excited shout.

"Are you that excited to see da-da? Mummy too..."

Solar mumbled as the familiar face flashed across her mind. She couldn't wait to get over the 7 hours quickly and fall into the embrace of her love. It's been a hard one week since her love went on a work trip to Gold Coast. Solar had to take care of her baby girl alone and even though her best friend, Wheein came over to accompany her at times, she couldn't help but feel lonely when night comes.

Solar leaned forward and planted raspberry on her baby's cheek, making the little girl cackled up in laughter. Routine fell in soon after. She would fed her baby girl and she would fall asleep, wakes up, whines and feeds again.

It was 2 hours before they landed when her baby girl started to create a ruckus in the plane. It could be due to the restraint from being in the enclosed cabin for too long or just plain discomfort that she started crying and whining uncomfortably. Solar could understand and sympathise her on some levels as she too, was feeling a little uncomfortable. But the uncontrollable cries made Solar felt like she was at her wit ends.

Her girl refused to be fed or cajoled. She would squirm around Solar's embrace and sometimes, cry her lungs out. Solar felt the pressure as passengers started to stirred or even woke up from their sleep.

She stood up and walked the aisle again, hoping that her baby girl would calm down or sleep after her outburst. But it seemed like her baby think otherwise.

Solar had been walking up and down for about half an hour, with her baby calming down and crying shortly afterwards. She was near her seat when the air steward from before came towards her.

"Miss, do you need help?"

Solar shifted her baby girl in her embrace and smiled apologetic at the steward, her eyes glancing at the name tag on the shirt, appreciative of his helpfulness even though it's part of his job.

Eric Nam

"It's alright, I guess? I had no idea what she wants too..."

Solar smiled and Eric smiled back.

"Hmm, would you like me to carry her for a while? Since you're alone..."

Eric suggested politely. He had noticed Solar from the start, no doubt she is pretty even though she's a mum. And... based on his experiences, a mum taking care of a baby for a long flight isn't easy and it makes him wonder why would anyone wants to fly alone with a baby alone. Being brought up in a good manners household, Eric naturally felt sympathetic towards Solar, especially when her baby girl started her tantrums half and hour ago.

Solar was tempted to. It would let her have some rest but she knew her baby girl would threw a fit more in a stranger's arm.

Blame her and her love's introvertness. Seems like her baby inherited it from them too.

"She's sensitive now, it would spell trouble if she's in other people's arms. I would wish to but I don't want her to start her fits again. Thank you so much for offering your help."

Eric smiled back charmingly, fully understand Solar's perspective.

"Is there anything I could help, then?"

"Not for now. Thank you so much."

Solar's baby girl decided to torture her for another half an hour before she succumbed to her milk and fell asleep.

Thank Buddha for that, Solar thought as she survived both the take off and landing with her baby asleep. She managed to get off the plane with Eric helping her taking the bag down from the cabin storage.  After an hour of checking out and collecting her luggage with her baby asleep in the baby carrier, Solar found a seat at the arrival hall and sat down tiredly.

It's only 7pm in Gold Coast, but Solar felt as if she has burn midnight oil for two days straight.

To: Love ♡
I've arrived and checked out. Waiting at the arrival hall now.

From: Love ♡
Give me 15 minutes.

Solar sighed as she received the reply. She patted the bum of her baby girl absentmindedly as she willed herself not to fall asleep. A group of people in uniform came walking out and Solar smiled as she saw Eric in the group. She saw the surprised look on the guy's face as he walked by. But before he could say or do anything, a voice called out from the direction he was heading. He saw a lady clad in pilot uniform with her black hair tied in a low ponytail walking towards his group's direction.

The group bowed back politely to the lady as they seemed to recognise her and she bowed back too.

"Oh, Pilot Moon. You're here for the conference?"

Their pilot greeted the lady and the lady smiled as they shook hands.

"For the conference and training. Just landed?"

"Yeah, so you're here for a week? What are you doing here so late?"

Pilot Moon nodded her head as she answered.

"Yeah. I'm here to pick my wife up."

She pointed to the direction behind them and the whole group turned over to see Solar fiddling with her phone quietly.

"Oh... hurry over then."

Their pilot said and she bowed before walking towards Solar in big strides, while the group started leaving too.

"Hey..."

She called out softly and watched as Solar looked up at her with a weary smile. Her heart ached at that sight.

"Byul uh..."

Gently, she bend over and planted a kiss on Solar's lips gently. Goosebumps crept over her body at the long missed warmth and scent from her wife.

God, she missed her so much. She looked down into the baby carrier and smiled when she saw her baby girl sleeping soundly.

"You must had a hard time on the flight. C'mon, let's get you back quickly."

Moonbyul said gently as she held Solar up from her seat and took both her luggages. She bid goodbye to the whole group as she walked past. The wind was blowing strongly and Solar shivered as she huddled her baby closer in her arms, hoping to shield the coldness away from her baby.

Moonbyul saw it and quickly opened the door of her rented car and led Solar in.

When she had place the luggages into the boot of the car, Moonbyul hurried back to the driver seat and drove off to her hotel room.

She reached her hand over to Solar's and held it tightly in hers. She's delighted that Solar decided to come over to spend her three days off together.

Often, she would raised their interlocked hands and kissed it.

It made Solar chuckled and Moonbyul could only smiled at it.

"I bet you've suffered a lot. Sorry for not being able to book a business class seat for you."

Moonbyul whispered as she stared at Solar when they stopped at the red light.

"Business class or not, it really depends on your baby to make it a comfortable flight."

Solar answered with a pout and Moonbyul raised her eyebrow at it.

"Oh no... she must have make it hard for you. I'll give it to her when she's awake."

Moonbyul replied with a huff and Solar scoffed.

"You? I don't believe it. You love her more than anyone in the world."

Moonbyul chuckled as she drove on to her hotel, not giving any more answer and watched with amusement as Solar pouted at her side.

When they had reached the hotel, Moonbyul opened the door for Solar and allowed the older girl to come out safely with the sleeping girl in her arms. Without giving Solar any chance to move about, Moonbyul placed her hand on the back of Solar's neck and kissed her deeply, putting all her missing into the kiss.

They broke apart when they need oxygen and Moonbyul rested her head against Solar's forehead. She opened her eyes gently and watched as Solar breathe deeply with her eyes closed, face flushed.

"You know I love you more than anyone in the world, including our baby. She won't be here without you, you know?"

Solar smiled as her eyes fluttered open, looking at her reflection in Moonbyul's eyes that were looking at her with overflowing love.

"I love you too."

Solar whispered gently and Moonbyul smiled before leaning back for another kiss. They broke apart when the little head between them move around.

"Hey, look who's awake?"

Moonbyul whispered softly as she looked at the baby girl who's staring at her carefully before breaking into her eye smiles that looked identical to Solar's.

"Haneul's awake, hmm? Do you miss Da-da? I missed you so much."

Moonbyul said as she give sniff kisses on her baby girl's cheek which pulled out a giggle from the little girl.

She looked up to Solar's yawn and smiled gently.

"Now that you're awake, it's time to let mummy rest, hmm? Let's get to the hotel and have you wash up. I'll take care of her tonight."

Moonbyul said and mumbled against Solar's cheek before planting a soft kiss on it.

"Eat in or out?"

Moonbyul asked as they walked towards the lift and up to her room level.

"Room service please? I'm really tired."

Solar mumbled sleepily and Moonbyul nodded her head.

"Sure, I'll order for you then. Just go take a bath and rest."

They entered Moonbyul's room and after placing the luggages at one side, Moonbyul helped to unbuckle the carrier off Solar's body and placed their baby on the King sized bed and took off her little jacket and hat.

Solar went ahead to unlocked her luggage and took out her change of clothes before heading to the toilet to shower. Meanwhile, Moonbyul laid on her stomach, not minding that her pilot uniform is going to be crumpled, as she give sniff kisses on her baby’s cheeks.

“Whatcha doing? Hmm? Did you miss me? I miss you so so much.”

Moonbyul whispered gently to her baby girl as she made funny faces, making the girl chuckled with her arms and legs waving about.

Moonbyul heard the water running in the toilet and she smiled as she watched her baby girl flipped onto her stomach, lifting her head up and gurgled with her legs kicking in the air. She placed her nose on the diapered bum and sniffed twice before blowing raspberry on the back of the baby, making her screaming in delight at the tickles she felt.

“I miss you so so much.”

Moonbyul sighed as she took in her baby’s scent and laughter before moving up to the room telephone that was situated on the bedside table. She picked up the phone and ordered food for both Solar and herself before returning back to her baby girl.

Moonbyul laid herself down on her back beside her baby girl who’s still having fun with her tummy time. Moonbyul just stared gently at her little girl who’s playing fine just by herself, gurgling and lifting her head up and down happily. She cracked into laughter when her baby girl’s head dropped on the bed face down, and started crying.

“Why? Why? You’re just tired. It’s been 10 minutes on your tummy time. It’s okay~ you did great!”

Moonbyul cajoled her baby girl as she lifted her up and flipped her back onto her back while patting her chest gently. Moonbyul smiled brightly as she watched her baby pressed her lips together tightly, her arms waving at the side, trying to stop herself from crying.

“What’s wrong?”

Solar asked and Moonbyul whipped her head around to see her wife in her pyjamas, hair tied up in a bun, standing at the side of her bed looking at her and their baby. Moonbyul pushed herself up and shrugged as she reached out for Solar’s hand and pulled her to sit on her laps.

“She’s just tired from her tummy time.”

Moonbyul mumbled as she buried her nose in Solar’s nape and breathed in deeply.

Solar squeaked and laughed softly before turning her body around to look at her baby who’s ling onto her little fist.

“She’s hungry, help me to wipe her down and change her clothes? I’ll prepare her milk.”

Solar said before turning her body back and tried to get down Moonbyul’s lap but the younger girl refused to budge.

“Moon Byulyi.”

Solar called out firmly once but the younger girl just hugged on her tightly.

“1 minute.”

Moonbyul muttered and Solar sighed softly.

“She’s going to cry in a minute.”

“But I haven’t seen you in a week. Let me smell you and hugged you longer please.”

Moonbyul begged and Solar couldn’t help but chuckled. She shifted in Moonbyul’s arms and when she managed to cup her face in her hands, she smiled and give her a peck on her lips.

“I can’t believe you would compare like this with your baby girl.”

Solar teased as she got down her lap and went to the pantry table to get the kettle.

“Can’t help when we’re sharing you.”

Moonbyul spitted out bitterly but smiled at her baby girl, blowing raspberries on her cheeks. Solar rolled her eyes when she saw that the girl’s words doesn’t matched her actions before smiling at the scene.

It was ten minutes later when their room service came. Moonbyul received the food politely before closing the door and placed their food on the table. She then went to the small balcony where Solar was patting the baby girl to sleep after her milk.

“Food’s here.”

Moonbyul whispered softly and Solar nodded her head before returning back to the room and placed her baby girl on the bed, arranging pillows around her. She watched as she on her pacifier quietly, eyes closed and fast asleep before walking out to join Moonbyul for dinner.

When they’re done with dinner and washing up, Solar took the chance and joined Moonbyul who was on the chaise longue, watching the television. She laid herself on top of the younger girl and felt arms wrapped around her tightly.

“It’s nice here. The view of the beach and everything.”

Solar said as she settled snuggly against Moonbyul and closed her eyes when she felt the younger girl planting kisses on her crown.

“Yeah, it is, but it’s better with you and Haneul around.”

Solar smiled and sighed in satisfactory, feeling so much better that she was in her lover’s arm after a long week. It wasn’t that she’s clingy as Moonbyul has often been on such trip while they were dating and married. They were used to such short separation. However, Moonbyul has barely been gone for such a long work trip since Haneul was born, thus it took a while for Solar to get used to it again.

“What are we going to do tomorrow?”

Solar asked quietly, listening to the steady beats of Moonbyul’s heart while the younger girl was playing with her fingers mindlessly.

“Hmm… there’s one thing I would like to do with you, but I’m not sure if you’re up to it.”

Moonbyul replied and Solar raised an eyebrow at that statement.

“Why? What is it?”

“Well… I know you’re tired from the flight, but the sunrise is quite a good catch here. I’ve watched it a few times this week and thought it would be nice to have you with me when it happens.”

Solar sat up straight and stared at Moonbyul for a while before frowning.

“Yeah, I’m sure it is nice. But why would you have watched it a few times this week alone?”

Moonbyul gave a guilty smile with a shrug.

“I… uh… couldn’t really sleep that well?”

Solar’s frown was still there and Moonbyul reached forward to press her thumb on the wrinkled skin before rubbing the tension away.

“I’m usually a light sleeper, it’s alright. Don’t frown.”
Solar looked at Moonbyul quietly for another minute before nodding her head.

“Let’s go then. Watched the Sunrise that managed to keep you up for days.”

Moonbyul chuckled and nodded her head.

“Are you able to wake up at 4?”

“What?!!!”

Moonbyul laughed as she pulled Solar back into her arms before carrying her to the bed and lay down behind her, spooning her into her embrace.

“Yeap. Sleep now!”

———

They walked barefooted on the road, feeling the icy cold asphalt under the feet, one hand holding onto their shoes while the other intertwined with each other. Their baby was swinging her legs at Moonbyul’s side in the baby carrier, looking out to the blue sky that was about to give way to the sun, feeling excited for no reason.

Moonbyul smiled at her baby’s girl excitement and turned to her side, looking at Solar’s long brown hair fluttering lightly from the light breeze that was blowing towards them. They sunk their feet into the white thick sand and Solar beamed at the feeling.

“It’s like stepping on cloud.”

Solar exclaimed excitedly and Moonbyul agreed with her wife, enjoying the cold numbing feeling her feet was experiencing stepping into the cold spring sand.

They moved closer to the shoreline and watched as some people were settling themselves on the cold sand, readying themselves to catch the sunrise while there were some surfers already in the water, chasing after the waves to make their best shot out of the dawn surf.

Solar took a deep breathe and closed her eyes, enjoying the salty sea breeze and the feeling of spring. Moonbyul stared at her wife and smiled at the blissful expression Solar was having right now.

It was only 5 minutes of walking along the shoreline that Moonbyul saw from afar an orange ball.

“Look, the sunrise!”

Moonbyul exclaimed and tugged on Solar’s hand gently. The older brunette turned her head and they both slowed down to a stop as they stared in peace at the ball of fiery fire rising up slowly from the horizon.

The Waves crashed gently against the shore, foaming white at the end, creating endless clouds at the tip of their feet.

The Wind blows gently, pushing coolness to their body, fanning their shirt and caressing their face.

The Sun rises from the Horizon, shining light into their eyes, warmth envelope their presences into a hue of orange and red.

The Sand melted under their feet, burying their feet into coldness and hardened when the water touches, letting them finding their roots again.

“This is like paradise!”

Solar exclaimed when the Sun was high and smiled brightly at Moonbyul who has been looking at her throughout the sun rise.

Moonbyul smiled and leaned forward, hands holding on Solar’s jaw before closing her eyes and captured the older’s girl lips in hers after whispering quietly.

“You’re my paradise.”
