Chapter 01
You're My Inspiration
It was a warm and bright Saturday morning. You woke up early and instead of waking up your best friend, Hyomin, you decided to let her sleep in more. Previously the night before, the two of you were having a night out with your other friends. The group of you went ice-skating, shopping, and due to the large request, drinking. All your friends ended up either a little drunk, really drunk, or even passed out. Hyomin happened to be one of those who passed out. As for you, you didn’t drink at all and just decided to drive Hyomin to your house to spend the night. You were sitting at the dining table with your laptop, notebook, and a plate of toast with jelly. You were in your first year of college and was working on an essay due in 1 week, but knowing that you’d be gone, you decided to work on it before hand to get a grade on it instead of not getting a grade at all. You looked past the laptop for a moment and noticed the plane ticket sitting on the edge of the coffee table in the living room. You sighed and went over to it, taking it in hand and re-reading it. There was a note attached, but with no name. You took out the note and unfolded it curiously as you began to read it:
~~~~~,
I know, your studies are going well in America. But, like I said I would, I found your step father. You’re probably saying right now,”Hell no! I’m NOT going!” and throwing a tantrum, but won’t you just think about it? Fly to Korea and live with your family. Please, before making a reckless mistake, just think about it. Do it for your mother.
“The last sentence makes it pretty obvious for who it’s from.”,you muttered under your breath as you put the note and plane ticket back into the envelope. As you made your way back to the kitchen, Hyomin came down, clutching onto her head,”Ow! It hurts!” You shook your head,”I told you not to drink so much last night.” “I couldn’t help it! You know how I am once I start! I can’t stop!”,she pouted as she sat down in the chair next to your laptop. You took out a tea packet and boiled some water into the tea pot as you leaned against the counter, facing Hyomin,”Sorry, I ran out of your hangover cure.” “What?! Did you get drunk too?!”,she gaped at you. “More like you keep getting drunk so much that I have to bring you to my place more times than necessary.”,you snickered and poured the boiled water into a cup as you placed the tea packet into the cup. You handed it to her,”Better than nothing.” She pouted and took the cup as you sat down next to her. She looked around and spotted the plane ticket envelope on the coffee table,”Are you going to go?” You stopped typing and turned to her,”...What?” She nodded towards the ticket,”Are you gonna go to back to Korea?” You paused,”I don’t know.” “You should go.”,she set the tea on the counter. You sighed and closed your laptop,”Hyomin, you know the reason why I left in the first place.” “Still, she said she found your new step father. Besides, if she really was going to abuse you again, she would’ve cursed you out or something.”,she shrugged casually. You stayed quiet for a while. In deep thought, you drove Hyomin home and entered the now quiet home. You glanced back at the ticket,”I don’t know. I really don’t know.” You went into your room and closed the door shut before the ticket could take over your next move.
