Chapter 6
A Monkey Love StoryHyukjae was rolling on the bed, feeling unexpectedly antsy and fidgety that night, like he knew something bad was about to happen. Something bad, perhaps only to him, because it wasn’t like Donghae paid much attention to him anymore.
He could feel his energy draining, quicker than usual, with multiple alarm bells going off all at once in his head. His frame began to shake as drops of sweat formed on his forehead. His hands turned clammy and sweaty. He curled into a ball on the bed and took deep breaths, trying not to go into a panic attack, although he could feel one coming. His stomach lurched and growled angrily. His heart started thumping wildly. He was a mess, and he couldn’t do anything about it.
Hyukjae ran into the bathroom just in time and hurled into the toilet bowl. His stomach refused to settle and he could only whine softly while rubbing his tummy gently, coaxing it to behave and settle down. When his stomach was done emptying itself, Hyukjae sat back on the cool tiles and leaned against the sink, with two streams of tears trailing down his cheeks. He caught sight of his sorry state in the mirror; his face had become deathly pale, there were dark bags under his eyes and his lips were flaky and bleeding. Sighing, the brunet shakily stood up and cleaned himself the best he could in the sink, half wondering if he could borrow Donghae’s concealer and cream to mask his deteriorating condition.
Just then, the front door opened and Hyukjae could hear Donghae entering the apartment. He was back from his date already. Quickly Hyukjae recomposed his stature and sat on the bed. He could feel his stomach starting to stir again and he prayed hard that he wouldn’t suddenly puke all over Donghae when he came into the room later. He picked up a book and pretended to read just as Donghae entered. Hyukjae managed to peek timidly at the other whose face was glowing in pride and joy.
“Hyukkieeeeee…” Donghae squealed, then picked up the plush monkey and hugged it tightly. He danced clumsily around the room with the toy while singing happily. Hyukjae smiled softly and put the book down. His stomach felt considerably better and he didn’t feel like puking anymore.
“Hey, Hae. Welcome back.”
Donghae giggled and flipped onto the bed, doing somersaults all across the mattress. His face was evidently a bright shade of red. With a final flip he landed on his pillow and let out a huge, happy sigh. “Hyukkieeeee…”
Hyukjae reached out and lightly touched Donghae’s burning cheeks. He brushed the hair away from his face and stared into the joyful brown eyes he’d come to love so much. “What happened?”
“Oh Hyukjae…” the other squealed, “Siwonnie just kissed me! On the lips! It just felt so… magical!”
The brunet felt his insides churn in jealousy at once. “Oh… I see.” Hyukjae swallowed uneasily. No wonder he felt a sudden energy drain just now. “Did you… like it?”
“I loved it!” Donghae giggled. “He was just sending me back, and the mood was just right… I could sense that he wanted to kiss me so I just stood there and waited for him… he kind of got the message and just pinned me against the door and we kissed for so long! That was the best first kiss of my life!”
Hyukjae lashed out at the other. “How would you know it’s the best wh
