Chapter 5½
A Monkey Love StoryHyukjae ran.
Faster than he knew he ever could.
The dark abyss threatened to swallow him whole. The road ahead of him was dark, so black that he didn’t even know where he was heading, but as long as he was going forward, he ran, faster than he’d ever run before.
Up ahead, he could hear Donghae’s voice faintly calling out to him. The gentle voice echoed loudly in Hyukjae’s head while he continued running forward, forward to the voice, concentrating wholly. He couldn’t lose to the darkness. He didn’t want to cease to exist. He wanted to spend the rest of his life together with Donghae, the love of his life. But eventually, fatigue began eating into his legs. His lungs felt like they were about to burst. Hyukjae saw a flash of Donghae right before his eyes, whose hands were outstretched not to him, but to another, and suddenly Hyukjae realized that Donghae wasn’t calling his name anymore. It was a foreign name he was calling instead. A name he did not know or recognize.
The voice gradually faded. Hyukjae no longer knew which way to turn because there wasn’t Donghae’s voice to guide him anymore. Hyukjae let out a frustrated scream before his legs gave out, making him collapse onto the ground with a loud grunt.
He couldn’t get up.
Donghae was just in front of him, but he couldn’t reach him.
Donghae was just too far away.
Donghae didn’t love him anymore.
Donghae… let go of him.
