Labels: Her Boyfriend

“Choi Junhong,” the monotone voice he was all but too familiar with called. Grabbing his belongings, he walked down the stairs to where his professor was standing.

“Good job, your character analyzes on the character Momo was very insightful. I look forward to reading more of your work,” the eldering man said as he handed a piece of paper marked with an A plus on the corner. Thanking the professor he hurriedly made his way out of the lecture room, paper in hand. He stopped short of the door to quickly scan over the paper, reading the comments scribbled in the margins and smiled, Sooyoung would be proud. After all, if it weren’t for her, he probably would have never finished the paper in time. That was not to say she wrote the paper for him, because she certainly did not, it was just that when she found out he had a book report due on “Momo,” her eyes had lit up and then she proceeded to tell him everything about it.

Speaking of Sooyoung, he had wanted to surprise her by waiting outside of her class so that he could walk her back to her dorm, but the second he stepped out of the old, brick building he spotted her chatting with one of her many friend. He stood still for a while, taking in the scene in front of him. Sooyoung had always been a pretty girl and as he watched her interact with her friend, he couldn’t help but loose his breath, something that happened way too often. Placing his hand over his beating heart, he made his way towards the duo.

“You’ll like Pro- oh, Junghong” she stopped mid-sentence when she noticed him and motioned him to her side.

“Junhong? Your boyfriend?” The girl asked and he felt himself tensing up. He was still trying to get used to the term “boyfriend.” It wasn’t that he hated it, but it was a little unnerving knowing that he was the boyfriend of the one and only Park Sooyoung. She may not act like it, but Sooyoung was pretty popular on campus. Her bright personality and charming looks attracted many friends and sometime when he thought about it, he didn’t think he was good enough to be her boyfriend. She just seemed too perfect for him.

“Yep, the one and only Choi Junhong. My boyfriend.” The way she had said boyfriend made his cheeks flush red.

“Omo, unnie, he’s turning red,” the girl laughed and he was strangely reminded of a squirtle.

“Yah, don’t laugh at him,” he heard Sooyoung scold the girl before turning to face him, “oh right. This little squirtle is Yerim.” So he wasn’t the only one who thought Yerim looked like squirtle.

“Nice to finally meet you Junhong. I feel like I already know you since you’re all unnie has ever talked about.” Squir-, no, Yerim said giving Sooyoung a teasing smile.

“Yah, Kim Yerim,” he heard Sooyoung shout as she quickly placed her hands over Yerim’s mouth. He chuckled at her actions and noticed how her cheeks were starting to turn red, it was nice for a change.

After talking with Yerim for a while, he learned that she was a freshman who lived in the same dorm as Sooyoung. Biding Yerim goodbye, he felt Sooyoung latch her hands through his as the two of them made their way to Sooyoung’s dorm room.

“So boyfriend,” he eyed her and saw her staring intently at him.

“Omo, look at you, you’re turning red again,” she laughed and his haunch about her teasing him was correct. He turned his head away from her and pouted, attempted too anyway.

“Oh alright, I’m sorry. I’ll stop teasing you now, but you look so cute whenever you get all shy,” she said lovingly and he couldn’t help but forgive her.

“But if I remembered correctly, you were the first one to call me girlfriend, so I don’t know why you get all shy when I call you my boyfriend,” she reasoned, tilting her head to the side and Junhong flushed red again. Her words were correct, he had been the first to use the term on her. Thinking back to that night gave him anxiety. Where he got the courage to call her his girlfriend was beyond him, but- he felt her nudge him – he was spacing out again.

“Well, there’s really no reason. I think I just need a little time getting used to it,” he answered. He knew it was a lame excuse, but he couldn’t possibly tell her it was because he was insecure.

“Hmm…” What was she thinking in that pretty brain of hers? He watched as she twisted her lips, before opening to simply say, “alright then.”

Alright what? Placing her hands on his arm, she ushered him towards her dorm room. An uneasy feeling filled his heart as they walked.

“Junhong!” His eyes looked up from the graded paper he was looking over and saw Sooyoung waiting in front of his classroom. She wore a bright smile as she made her way towards him, her bag swaying off her shoulder as she juggled some of her books in her arms.

“Sooyoung-ah,” he smiled holding out his hands to accept her books, once she reached him.

“Where should we go today?” She asked as she unconsciously locked her hands through his arm.

“I was thinking about this new café that opened just across the street from the university. How about going to check it out?”

“Okay, sounds good.”

It didn’t take long for them to get their drinks and as they settled down at an empty table he began to drown himself in her voice. Yet as he listened to her talk about her day, he couldn’t help but feel like someone was watching them. His intuition had been right when a tall, lean body made its way to where they were sitting.

“Sungjae oppa?” Sooyoung’s voice perked up at this stranger who had his arms wrapped around her.

“Sooyoungie!” This Sungjae guy exclaimed, Sooyoung still tightly wrapped in his arms.

It would seem as the two of them was lost I their own thoughts as they rambled on about old times and Junhong was left with nothing to do but sit as she laughed about things only they knew about.

“Oh oppa, this is-“ Junhong smiled, it was about time she mentioned him, her boyfriend. He didn’t like the way Sungjae kept touching her. Didn’t like the way he was staring intently into her eyes and didn’t like the way he called her Sooyoungie, as if she was his.

“Junhong.”

The look of shock could not easily be erased from his face, as his eyebrows contorted into a confused twist. That was it?

“Oh nice to meet you Junhong. I’m Sungjae, our family used to live beside each other when we were little,” Sungjae stated as he held out his hand to shake.

Accepting the handshake, Junhong smiled politely at the guy in front of him.

“Nice to meet you too, Sungjae. Like Sooyoung said, I’m Junhong, her boyfriend.” He made sure to emphasized the word boyfriend.
