Remember To Forget

Description

When the tragic lives of two lost souls intersect, they learn of each others' haunting memories and remind themselves that some things are better left forgotten. BomBae x TOPBOM with bits of Skydragon and Chaerin.

Foreword

With a duffel bag carried on his back like it were a knapsack, an exasperated Seunghyun sprinted down the long, wide, and stretched corridor of the airport.  As he hurried like there was no tomorrow, followed by a young man who he paid no real attention to, he waved his arms and shouted in alarm when the boarding gate of his flight came into view, nearly halfway closed. “Wait! Please wait!”

Nearly out of breath, he and his friend reached the counter and handed their boarding passes to the airline staff, who shook his head at the lateness of these passengers. “Consider yourselves lucky this time, but do try to be early next time. Planes don't wait for people, only people wait for them.” After tearing off a side of the boarding passes, he handed the card-stock paper back to their owners and rushed them onward.

Heaving a deep sigh the moment they stepped onto the plane, Seungri smirked triumphantly at his older friend, “I told you we'd make it, there was no need to rush me this morning while I was doing my hair.”

“No need to rush?” Seunghyun flashed the remnant of his boarding pass to a flight attendant by the exit, who signalled them to the direction of their seats. “You take longer to do your hair than your sister.” He gave Seungri a light push to make him hurry down the aisle. “If I knew how much trouble you would be, I never would've taken up this babysitting job.”

Seungri reacted to the push from behind with a glare, “Hey, I'm a professional model, I have to look presentable in front of the public. And I know why you came with me on my modelling job the moment my noona asked you to be my body guard.  You have a crush on her,” Seungri teased in an intimidating tone, “Ah, I can see our seats, I call the window one.”

A part of Seunghyun really wanted to smack the younger man in the back of the head, but the girl occupying the seat in front of them had gotten up and stood in between Seunghyun and Seungri.

“Excuse me,” She said politely and waited for Seunghyun to shift his body in the narrow aisle to allow for her to pass through. As she walked off, she turned back to face Seunghyun with a weak smile, “Thank you.”

The fresh scent of shampoo and the radiance of her smile mesmerized him to a point where he had nearly forgotten where he was and what he was doing. While his feet froze and his eyes fixated on the girl, Seungri's voice suddenly sounded by his ear, startling him out of his thoughts.

“You have a thing for women with boyfriends, don't you?” A taunting Seungri grinned as he opened up the lid of the overhead storage compartment, attempting to shove all the baggage he had with him into the small space.

“What are you talking about?” Seunghyun asked in an offended tone, his tolerance for the man lowering by the second.

Rolling his eyes, Seungri couldn't believe how forgetful his friend was, “That girl, we've seen her before at a tourist attraction a few days ago. She came up to you with her camera and asked you to help take a picture of her and her boyfriend.”

How could Seunghyun have forgotten such a captivating girl whose big brown eyes looked as though they could speak? And the way her cheeks puffed up when she smiled, it made her seem bubbly in personality and cute in appearance.

“Hyung,” Seungri snapped his fingers at him, “You really need to stop your fantasizing. That girl has a boyfriend, and my noona has a boyfriend too, who happens to be your best friend, Daesung.”

If he weren't on a plane that was about to take off with another hundred or so passengers, Seunghyun surely would have screamed out in frustration, “For the millionth time, I don't have a crush on your sister!” Annoyed, he swung his duffel bag down from his shoulders and raised it up over his head, only to find the storage compartment already filled with Seungri's belongings. “Yo! Why did you put your puffy jacket up here? It's taking up so much room.  Just hang on to it in your seat.” As he pulled Seungri's coat out from the small compartment, he accidentally dragged a box out of its position, dropping it down on the ground.

The sounds of glass shattering was heard the moment the box made impact with the floor of the plane and Seunghyun found himself cursing under his breath.

Panicked, Seungri rose from his seat and scanned around the area. Aside from the few people that sat directly beside or behind them, it didn't seem like anyone really noticed or cared about what happened. “Hyung, just pick up the box and shove it back in the storage space like nothing happened.”

“What?” Seunghyun responded with a shocked expression, “I can't do that.”

“Hurry, before the girl comes back.” Rushed Seungri, and when he realized that Seunghyun wouldn't obey to his words, he quickly reached down for the box and dealt with the problem himself. “There, now sit down and act like nothing's wrong.” He squeezed back into the crowded seat next to the window and pulled Seunghyun by the arm to get him to sit too. “Now lean back.”

In a threatening gaze, Seunghyun turned to face Seungri and questioned, “Why should I?”

The intensity in Seunghyun's gaze quickly silenced the young man, making him turn the other way uneasily to face out the window. “Fine, do what you want. I'm going to take a nap.”

At last, it was Seunghyun's turn to crack a sly smile, finally able to enjoy some peace and quiet without the confident little brat getting on his nerves every other second. He sat with the weight of his body leaned over the plastic arm rest of his seat, his eyes fixed on the narrow aisle in front of him in the direction the girl had earlier walked off into. As decided in his mind, he would confess his mistakes to the girl the moment she came back and offer to compensate for her loss.

Yet by the time the plane took off and everyone returned to their seats to strap their safety belts on, there was still no sign of the girl. In fact, even when the first meal was served on their long flight from America back to Seoul, the girl still had not managed to return. For almost four full hours, Seunghyun waited for her with complete concentration, tiring his eyes out. Relaxing himself in his seat, he finally leaned back and closed his eyes to give them a rest. “Just for a few minutes,” He thought to himself, “I'll rest my eyes for a few minutes, and when I hear the girl come back, I'll wake up and apologize...”

“Sir? Sir, we've arrived in Seoul. The plane has stopped.”

Slowly, Seunghyun's eyes fluttered opened to the sound of someone talking to him. Confused at first, it took him nearly a minute to realize that the plane had stopped and most passengers had already gotten off. Turning to his side, he could see Seungri still sleeping soundly with an eye mask on to keep out the light. “Hey, Seungri, we're back.”

With sore arms from having to sit in such a cramped space for so many hours, Seungri took a stretch while Seunghyun got up to fetch their belongings from the overhead compartment.

A flight attendant walked by and was quickly stopped by a curious Seunghyun, “Excuse me, the girl sitting in front of us, have you seen her?”

“Oh, she was upgraded to business class before the plane took off, she must have left through another exit already.” The flight attendant replied and watched as Seunghyun pulled out a box from the storage compartment. “Did she leave this behind?” She reached for the box and held it in her hands, only to hear broken pieces of glass sliding back and forth on the base of the box. “She probably doesn't want it since it's broken. I've got to help other passengers exit the plane. Can you just leave the box on her seat? I'll come back later to dispose it.”

Taking the box back in his hands, Seunghyun looked down at it with troubled thoughts. What the flight attendant assumed was obviously false, the girl didn't even know it was broken before she left. Yet if they weren't going to return it to its owner, what could he do? “Maybe I'll run into her later inside the airport since we all have to go out from the arrivals' section...”

“Hyung, just leave it.” Seungri objected to his idea, “If she couldn't even remember to bring it with her, it must not be important.”

Holding his duffel bag in one hand and the box in another, Seunghyun ignored Seungri's comments and headed towards the exit. He could hear from the loud ruffling sounds behind him that Seungri was desperately trying to gather all his belongings to catch up to him.

“Seunghyun-hyung, you're back!” Daseung exclaimed in joy at the sight of his best friend walking out of the arrivals area.

Relieved, Senughyun was thrilled the responsibility of looking after Seungri could finally be passed on to someone else. “Daesung!” He shouted back as he looked in the direction of where his friend stood, and in the corner of his eye, not far back from where Daesung was, he spotted her.

“The girl on the plane...” He could see her wheeling a cart with her luggage towards the airport exit. “Wait, don't go...” He muttered and began to make a run towards her, abandoning his own luggage in the middle of the room. As he ran through the crowd of people inside the large area, Daesung suddenly appeared in front of him and hugged him with a smile.

“Hyung, nice to know you missed me that much too, but you didn't have to leave your suitcase and your bag behind. Good thing Seungri was behind you and is watching over your stuff for you.” He teased and laughed, but it appeared that Seunghyun paid no attention to what he had to say. “Hyung?”

Pushing Daesung aside, Seunghyun was in too much of a hurry to explain, “I'll be right back.” He simply said before continuing to run for the exit.

Once outside the airport, he had lost sight of the girl due to having been stalled by Daesung's overly dramatic welcome. Yet being a man of his height had his advantages, and overlooking people's heads and short structures, his sharp eyes trained from his surveillance job managed to once again spot the girl. “Hey! Wait!” He picked up his pace and pushed himself to run after her, “Wait!”

If only he knew her name, it would've been so much easier to halt her. However, despite his hard efforts, it was too little too late. Helplessly, he watched the girl enter a taxi and ride away...
