The Unexpected Date

The Unexpected Date

Jihoon sighed for the umpteenth time that night. Having shooed the waitress away for the sixth time in the last hour, Jihoon was beginning to lose hope that his date would actually arrive. People around the restaurant were giving him apologetic looks. Honestly, it only seemed to add fuel to his angry fire. He’d finally worked up the courage to ask Seungcheol out on a date, and all it did was make him look foolish.

He’d been crushing on Seungcheol pretty much since he walked into Jihoon’s math class earlier this semester. Seungcheol had asked him for help a few times, so he seemed really nice. Boy was he wrong. He was even the one to pick this ty diner in the first place! Jihoon just felt stupid, used and overall upset.

Sighing, Jihoon was ready to stand up and leave when a man slid into the seat across from him. “I’m so sorry I’m late, babe. That jerk face of a science teacher made me sit through a lecture on how I’m ‘not living up to my potential’. You know how he is,” he ranted. “My name’s Soonyoung, just roll with it. Whomever that douchebag is that stood you up, he is clearly missing out.”

The waitress came by and took their orders, smiling at Jihoon encouragingly, happy for him that his date finally showed up. Once she left, Jihoon couldn’t help but ask, “You don’t have to do this. Why are you even helping me?”

The Soonyoung guy smiled, his eyes disappearing as they formed crescent moons. “Helping a hot guy like you? I’d do that any day. Besides, you looked upset and I hated seeing that frown on your face.”

Jihoon blushed at the compliment, getting more and more scarlet by the minute. “Thank you,” he eventually mumbled out. “You really didn’t need to do this.”

“But I wanted to,” Soonyoung answered taking a sip of the chocolate milkshake the waitress had just delivered to the table for him. He offered it to Jihoon. “You should seriously try this. I love small diners like this. Their milkshakes are always fabulous!”

Jihoon hesitantly leaned forward and took the straw in his mouth, after getting a nod from his ‘date’. He was really surprised by how good it was. It was thick but not too thick. It was rich but not so much that it was too strong. Maybe he should’ve ordered one, too. “Mm, that’s very good!”

Soonyoung’s eyes disappeared into crescents again. “You can have it if you want. I can always order another one,” he replied.

“No, it’s yours. I can’t just take it,” Jihoon argued pushing the shake back over towards Soonyoung.

The man laughed. “Why don’t we share it then? You looked like you really enjoyed it.” Jihoon blushed again. “By the way, I still haven’t caught your name. Unless you just want me to call you cutie all night.”

Jihoon didn’t think he could get redder. “It’s Jihoon. Are you always this flirty?” he replied. Realizing Soonyoung might break this little fantasy, he quickly added, “Not that I mind that is.”

“You know, you’re very cute when you blush,” Soonyoung commented. He leaned back in his chair quickly after saying that, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. “My friends say I tend to flirt when I get nervous. During group presentations, I used to flirt with the teachers to get a better grade and hide my nervousness.”

Jihoon couldn’t help but laugh. Soonyoung pouted. “You’re so cute,” he mumbled unconsciously. His eyes widened once he realized what he said. What did he just say?

During his inner turmoil, their food arrived. Jihoon had ordered a chicken sandwich, Soonyoung a BBQ burger. Soonyoung asked the waitress for another shake, this time with two straws. She giggled and sent them a knowing glance before leaving to get them another.

With Jihoon a little dazed, Soonyoung decided to catch his attention. “So, whom were you supposed to meet here? A boyfriend? A girlfriend?”

Snapping out of it, he replied, “Just a guy I thought I liked from my math class. He told me to meet him here almost two hours ago.” Jihoon sighed. Yeah, that was a good call.

“Does sir have a name? Maybe I’ll know him. You know, find out what happened.”

“Choi Seungcheol. He’s a business major over at Pledis University,” Jihoon sighed again.

Soonyoung sat up really quickly. “Oh! I know who that is! Well, I’ve never actually met him, but he’s in my Japanese class. He tends to sleep through it on lecture days.”

Seeing how down the topic was making Jihoon, Soonyoung offered, “I could beat him up for you if you want. I was almost a national representative in Taekwondo. No man should make you so upset.”

That perked Jihoon up a bit. “That’s so cool! But, please don’t beat him up. He’s not worth it. Besides, I guarantee a few of my friends won’t let him go that easily.” Soonyoung munched on his fries, having finished his burger, and nodded in understanding. “Wait a second,” Jihoon realized something. “You said almost. What made you stop?”

Soonyoung then proceeded to try and answer him with his mouth full of fries. Stopping, he chewed and swallowed before finally giving an intelligible answer. “I fell in love with dance. My time I had to train shifted over to dance instead. I guess that’s why I’m a dance major now.” Jihoon nodded. That made sense. At least it wasn’t something bad. “What about you, Jihoon?”

“What about me?”

“What do you like to do? What’s your major?”

“I’m a music theory major, with a minor in voice. I really like music and have been composing music for the last few years, or at least trying to. Honestly, I’m not that good really,” he admitted.

“Nonsense!” Soonyoung piped up. “The music program is so hard to get into. I bet you're an amazing composer and singer. I’d love to hear one of your songs someday.”

Jihoon blushed again. Was Soonyoung insinuating that they would see each other again? That actually sounds really nice. “I’ll only show you if you be honest with me,” Jihoon agreed.

Soonyoung smiled, mouth wide and teeth shining. “Does that mean we can see each other again? Maybe another date?”

“I’d like that,” Jihoon smiled shyly.

The two split the remainder of the second shake, Jihoon’s glass of water from earlier long forgotten at this point in the evening. When it came time to pay the bill, Jihoon insisted on paying for it. “You helped me out and made my evening better. It’s the least I can do.”

Soonyoung argued, “But what kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn’t at least help. Let me at least pay the tip.”

They both froze at the term ‘boyfriend’. Surprisingly, Jihoon couldn’t get himself to mind all that much. Usually he’d correct people in a heartbeat, but somehow he couldn’t get himself to do it. In the end, he let Soonyoung pay the tip.

As they walked out of the diner, Soonyoung began to look sheepish again. “I’m sorry about calling you my boyfriend. It kinda just came out.”

Jihoon shook his head. “I don’t mind. And this might just be the knight in shining armor thing, but I do like you Soonyoung.”

Soonyoung perked up at that. “Really? I didn’t think you did.” He paused for a moment. “Do you want to be my boyfriend, Jihoon? I promise not to stand you up like that did.”

“Relax, Soonyoung. I’d pick you over him any day,” Jihoon coaxed.

“Is that a yes?”

“Yes, that’s a yes.”

When Jihoon met up with a few of his friends in his vocal class, that Monday, he was in pretty high spirits. He’d spent much of his weekend texting back and forth with Soonyoung. As he wandered up to his friends, they could’ve sworn he had a bounce in his step. It was really weird.

“So I take it the date with Seungcheol went well,” Jeonghan commented as Jihoon stepped up next to him.

“No, the bastard stood me up,” Jihoon answered, the smile he didn’t know was on his face didn’t falter.

Seungkwan gave him a look. “Then what’s got your y- self in such a good mood. You’re never this happy in the morning. You hate waking up for this 9 A.M class.” Jihoon shot him a glare, but it was pretty pathetic since he couldn’t stop his happy mood.

“That’s because who has a vocal class at nine in the ing morning?” Jihoon complained. “And I’m in a good mood because I happened to have met someone, who is significantly better than -face Seungcheol.”

Seokmin looked flabbergasted by that statement. “You met someone? How? In a bar? When the hell would you have met someone?” His group of friends crowded him for answers.

“No!” Jihoon protested. “You know I don’t drink. He actually became my date Friday night, and we’re kind of dating now.”

Jeonghan looked like he could pass out. Jisoo held his shoulders in case he fell. “You’re telling me that the great Lee Jihoon has a boyfriend, and it’s not Choi Seungcheol! Oh my God! What has the world come to?”

“How did that happen?” Seungkwan demanded getting right in Jihoon’s face.

“Alright boys, separate. Class will begin. Let’s start with some warm ups,” Professor Kye called the class into order and into session.

Between warm ups and rehearsal, Seungkwan mouthed, “Explain later.”

~*~

The five of them plus their two other friends, Mingyu and Wonwoo, gathered at a pizzeria for lunch. Apparently, Seokmin had informed Mingyu –who in term informed Wonwoo– about Jihoon’s new boyfriend, or at least the existence of one. The second he entered the pizza joint he was immediately bombarded with questions from the inseparable duo.

“Do you want us to beat Seungcheol up? You just let us know and we will,” Mingyu warned.

“No, no, just maybe threaten him a bit. That way he knows that I don't think it was funny what he did,” Jihoon explained.

Mingyu and Wonwoo saluted in unison, “Aye, aye, captain!”

The group of seven sat down and ordered four pizzas to split between them, one for every two people and a full one for Mingyu. With the food ordered, six pairs of eyes focused in on Jihoon.

“Explain. Now. Who is the guy? And what is it about him that made you suddenly date him?” Seungkwan demanded.

As Jihoon explained what happened on the date and what about Soonyoung he liked, they all failed to notice another group enter the restaurant. “We exchanged number and parted ways once we got to campus and–”

“And that’s how Jihoon and I started dating. It’s all very sweet, I know. What can I say? I’m lucky a cutie like him even considered me,” a voice cut Jihoon off and hands were placed on his shoulders.

Jihoon spun around to see Soonyoung in all his blond, smiling glory. A pack of five other guys stood behind him.

“Hoshi?” Seungkwan asked stand up. Hoshi? “You told Jihoon your name was Soonyoung?”

“That’s my real name. Hoshi is just my DJ and dancing name,” Soonyoung explained.

“Hold up,” one of the guys behind him said. “You told him your real name?” The brunet whistled. “You must really like him.”

“Shut up, Doyoon.”

Jihoon turned around. “Soonyoung, what are you doing here?”

Soonyoung and his friends took the tables nearest to Jihoon’s group. “Lunch? Hansol was up for American pizza. You?”

“Same. Jisoo’s idea.”

Introductions were made throughout both groups as the thirteen of them settled in for pizza. Jihoon met Soonyoung’s friends: Doyoon, Hansol, Chan, Junhui and Minghao. He found out that Junhui and Minghao were Chinese exchange students, both majoring in dance. Like those two and Soonyoung, Chan was also a dance major. Hansol was a biochemistry student while Doyoon was a pre-med student. Doyoon was also a few years older than them. He almost naturally started mothering them all.

Lunch couldn’t have been better. Soonyoung would occasionally feed him part of his slice and vice versa. However, with how great that was, there is always something to ruin the mood.

And that was math class.

He had it Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and it was right after lunch. And with math came Seungcheol.

Jihoon was determined to simply ignore him for the hour. How hard could that be? Apparently, not very. Seungcheol fell asleep five minutes into the class without even sparing Jihoon a glance. About halfway through the class, Doyoon entered the classroom. What is he doing here? He’s not in this class.

“Professor Doogi? Do you mind if I bother your students?” Doyoon asked. The class looked around confused.

The professor looked excited. (Jihoon was firmly convinced that he was crazy.) “Go right ahead, so long as it's a private matter for everyone to hear.”

“Oh, it is.”

Doyoon went over to Seungcheol’s desk and plopped himself down on it, tearing him from his slumber. “Seungcheol, where were you Friday night?”

Still feeling a little groggy, he answered too honestly. “At the dorm playing video games.”

“But you had a date with my dongsaeng Friday night. You stood him up. Care to explain that?” Jihoon was very glad Doyoon didn’t mention his name in that brief summary. Seungcheol seemed to look confused for a second.

Upon remembering, he rolled his eyes before focusing in on Doyoon. “Oh that, I never intended to actually go though.”

Jihoon’s eyes widened. So it really was just a prank. Doyoon slid off of Seungcheol’s desk, his face blank of any emotion. By now, the whole class was watching. Professor Doogi, somehow, was now eating popcorn.

“Alright,” Doyoon answered vaguely, and a sharp clap echoed in the now silent room.

Doyoon had just slapped Seungcheol across the face.

“You’re so lucky you’re easy to replace, or you would’ve gotten more than a slap,” Doyoon murmured darkly. He shot Jihoon a subtle wink, thanked the professor and exited the classroom without giving Seungcheol another glance.

After that, the class wouldn’t calm down. Professor Doogi gave up and just gave them bookwork to do.

Seungcheol moved next to Jihoon. “Jihoon, I’m sorry. I was a jerk. I shouldn’t have accepted the date if I never intended to go,” Seungcheol said quietly as they worked in silence. More Jihoon worked and Seungcheol sat there.

“Then why would you do that? I waited an hour for you,” Jihoon hissed.

“I thought I could make Doyoon jealous, but then I found out his hours changed so he wasn’t working Friday nights anymore. I shouldn’t have played you. I’m sorry,” Seungcheol continued to apologize.

At that moment, the class was dismissed and Jihoon gathered his belongings. “You’re lucky Soonyoung came when he did or I would’ve done worse than what Doyoon-hyung did to you.” Without another word, he left the classroom, leaving Seungcheol to stare after his receding back.

Doyoon caught his arm as he rounded the corner immediately outside the building. “Jihoon, I think I have something to explain to you,” he murmured tugging the younger towards the dorms.

When they finally got there, Doyoon pulled him into his room, shooing his roommate Dongjin out for a few minutes. “Is this about Seungcheol liking you?” Jihoon asked once the door was closed.

“Kinda… okay, yes it does,” Doyoon admitted motioning for Jihoon to sit down on his bottom bunk. “I know he likes me, and I know he likes to take dates to the diner. I’m just incredibly sorry that he thinks using others will get me to like him and you had to be one of them. So, I’m seriously sorry, Jihoon.”

Jihoon stared down at his hands. He didn't know what to think. Did something happen between these two? They know each other very well it seems. “How long have you known that he was doing this?” he asked.

Doyoon sighed, “He only started using other a couple months ago. Before that he’d just catcall or wolf-whistle from the counter. He’s had a different date every Friday, and I thought changing my schedule would stop him. I’m sorry, Jihoon. I’m really sorry.”

A hand was placed on Jihoon’s shoulder and he just shook his head. This is all Seungcheol’s fault, and Doyoon shouldn’t be blaming himself. “It’s not your fault, Doyoon. Seungcheol is the jerk, not you. I’m just curious what’s stopping you from agreeing on a date with him,” Jihoon admitted.

“I have dated him.”

The younger’s face shot over to face the older. “What? When?”

“My senior year of high school. He was a junior. So, when I went off to college, I broke it off since I didn’t have time to maintain a relationship. Once he graduated and came here, he’s been trying to get us back together again,” Doyoon answered playing with his fingers.

Jihoon was confused. “If you’ve dated him, why do you keep saying no? Was he a bad boyfriend? Did he do something wrong?” he asked.

Doyoon sighed. “No, Seungcheol was always good to me. That year with him one of the best of my life.” He stood up from his seat next to Jihoon and shuffled over to his desk. He pulled a picture out from the desk. “I don’t know what happened during that year we didn’t see each other, but when he came here, he wasn’t the man I loved. He was different. He slacked off in class. He acted like some pompous . He wasn’t the Seungcheol I knew.”

Jihoon stood up and followed Doyoon to look at the picture. In it, Doyoon was fast asleep, curled up in Seungcheol’s arms on a couch. Seungcheol was staring at the boy in his arms with a look that could only be described as peaceful adoration. The two looked so cute, the perfect couple. Jihoon found himself wondering if he and Soonyoung would ever end up that way.

“Have you tried sitting him down and talking to him?” Jihoon asked. “As much of an idiot he made me feel on Friday, if he hadn’t stood me up, I wouldn’t have met Soonyoung. I think Seungcheol is desperate. If he doesn’t change for the better, then tell him to off, but seeing that picture, I think he will change for you. I don’t know what happened then, but I think he wants you back to have his happy life back.”

Doyoon smiled at Jihoon. “You just had your heart broken, but you’re already trying to fix him? Jihoon, you’re one hell of a guy. Soonyoung is very lucky to have you.”

“Soonyoung picked me up when I needed it. Maybe that slap was a wake-up call,” Jihoon replied. “I’ll see you again. I kinda want to drag Soonyoung back to the diner sometime, and I’ll see you then.”

“Stop by on Wednesday. That’s the next time I work.”

“Good luck, Doyoon. I wish you the best.”

“Thanks, Jihoon.”

~*~

Come Wednesday, Jihoon was excited to have another date with Soonyoung. They hadn’t bumped into each other again, but had not stopped texting each other. Seungkwan had started giving him a hard time about it. Because of that, Jihoon had invited Seungkwan and Seokmin out with them for a double date at the diner that night.

Jihoon and Seungkwan arrived together first. (Living next door to each other, that’s to be expected.) Doyoon seated them at a booth in his section. Seokmin arrived only a few minutes later, sliding in next to his boyfriend and kissing his cheek. Soonyoung arrived not a minute later, huffing and puffing as if he ran there.

“I’m so sorry I’m late,” he said sliding into the booth next to Jihoon. “Dance class ended later than usual, and then Chan was in the shower when I got back to the dorm, and then Junhui insisted on dressing me up,” he ranted.

“You’re fine. You’re not even late. Seokmin just got here, too,” Jihoon took his hand to reassure him.

“So Hoshi, Soonyoung, whatever, you must now experience the best friend interrogation,” Seungkwan piped up. “I may know you, but as Jihoon’s best friend, I must interrogate you.”

Soonyoung looked smug. “Bring it on DJ Boo. You don’t scare me.”

“Do you like Jihoon?”

“Yes.”

“Why were you at the diner on Friday?”

“I forgot Doyoon changed his schedule.”

“What are your intentions for dating Jihoon?”

“To make him smile. I hated seeing him frown and look upset.”

“Do you like dogs or cats?”

“Dogs.”

“Do you want kids in the future?”

“Sure.”

“How many?”

“I don’t care. Two?”

“If you had to choose one or the other: dogs or kids?”

“Dogs.”

“Ideal date?”

“A movie night at home.”

“Do you like to cuddle or not?”

“I love to cuddle.”

“Cute or y?”

“Why not both?”

“The city or the country?”

“The city.”

“Finally, how do you feel about anime?”

“I like it.”

Seungkwan went silent after that, leaning back into the booth and exchanging looks with Seokmin. Soonyoung glanced worriedly between Seungkwan and Jihoon, wondering if he’d said something wrong. Jihoon had gone bright red at all the questions, embarrassed by what Seungkwan was asking.

Seungkwan gave a stiff nod. “I’m sorry Soonyoung, but you passed!”

Soonyoung breathed a sigh of relief, instinctually leaning onto Jihoon. Seungkwan squealed at that, latching onto Seokmin’s arm. “Oh my God, Seokmin-ah! He’s perfect! Why didn’t I think of him before? I’m such a bad best friend.”

Jihoon rolled his eyes, a blush spread across his cheeks. Doyoon walked over to get their orders. Seungkwan got the Cajun Chicken Sliders, Seokmin got a BBQ Cheeseburger, and Soonyoung got a Spicy Nacho Cheese Double Burger. “What’ll you have Jihoon?” Doyoon asked.

“I’ll have a Chili Cheese Hot Dog with fries,” he ordered handing over his menu. Taking a quick look at Soonyoung, he added, “And a chocolate shake with two straws and spoons.”

Seungkwan looked at Seokmin excitedly. Seokmin smiled and order a shake for the two of them as well. Jihoon laughed at the proud look that spread across Seungkwan’s face. He stuck his tongue out at his friend. This started a weird face face-off. One weird face from Jihoon caused a weirdo one from Seungkwan, and then Seokmin joined the fray. It was when Soonyoung joined that they all finally exploded into laughter.

They were still calming down when Doyoon returned with their shakes. Soonyoung immediately placed their two straws into the shake. He grabbed the cherry off the top and held it out for Jihoon to eat. He’d done this when they received the second shake the last date so Jihoon didn’t think much of it. He ate the offering completely forgetting that they were on a double date.

He finally realized it when Seungkwan snapped a picture with his phone. “Seungkwan!” Jihoon complained burying his head in his arms. “Do you need to take pictures?” He glanced up to see Soonyoung motioning to Seungkwan to send that to him. Jihoon hit his arm with a pout on his face.

“I’m sorry, Jihoon. You and Soonyoung are just so cute. Besides, you look good in the picture,” Seungkwan smiled showing him the picture. Jihoon couldn’t deny that he was right. They did look kind of cute in the picture.

Without any pause, Seungcheol walked into the restaurant alone. Seungkwan’s eyes widened when he saw him from their booth. He walked over to the counter and sat himself down without even looking in Doyoon’s direction. Seokmin noticed Seungkwan’s stare. “I don’t mean to alarm you, but Seungcheol is here and is sitting at the counter.”

Jihoon shrugged leaning against Soonyoung like it was the most natural thing in the world. “He’s here for Doyoon. I just hope he doesn’t do anything stupid,” Jihoon replied taking a sip from the chocolate milkshake.

Unfortunately, Seungcheol did something stupid.

Doyoon was helping out a customer, someone Jihoon recognized as Ming Ming from his music theory class and was a Chinese exchange student. Doyoon had leaned very close to him to translate some of the menu for him. Seungcheol had seen this gesture as flirting and had gotten jealous. From his spot at the counter, he got up and walked over, and essentially caused a scene. He wrapped an arm around Doyoon’s waist and very loudly told the confused Ming Ming to leave “his boyfriend” alone.

Doyoon, of course, did not take this very kindly. He first apologized to Ming Ming and had another server attend to him before promptly flinging Seungcheol off of him. “If you’re not going to act civil than I’m not going out with you. Seungcheol, you’re such an , get out of this diner if you’re going to continue that way!” he hissed at him angrily.

Seungcheol hung his head and went back to the counter looking similar to a kicked puppy. People had started to stare, some glaring at Doyoon but most glaring at Seungcheol. Jihoon rolled his eyes at the dominance display Seungcheol had just done. When will he finally get it through his stupid thick head?

When Doyoon came with their food, Jihoon caught his arm before he could leave. “If you have time, I think you should go talk to him. Talking to him is the only way to get this worked out,” he advised. Doyoon shook his head as Jihoon let him go.

Regardless, ten minutes later on his break, he went over and sat down next to Seungcheol to talk. Jihoon studied them closely. “Why are you so supportive of them? The man over there stood you up yet you still want him to find happiness. I just don’t quite understand,” Seungkwan commented.

“Doyoon told me about what he and Seungcheol had in the past, and I can’t help but feel bad for them. They looked so cute together. Doyoon sounded so happy whenever he talked about Seungcheol, and I just want him happy. If Seungcheol can give him that, then I hope he can wisen up to his behavior,” Jihoon answered staring over at the pair. Soonyoung grabbed Jihoon’s hand and squeezed it, as if to reassure him that he agreed with him.

Doyoon started crying from the conversation. The two couples couldn’t hear what they were saying. Seungcheol pulled Doyoon into his arms. The other just let him do it, too shaken to really protest. Doyoon looked up at Seungcheol. Without being able to hear them, even they could tell that Doyoon kept apologizing. Seungcheol just kept shaking his head.

“I wonder what’s going on?” Soonyoung wondered out loud.

The couples decided that they would leave the two at the counter alone. They dug into their food. Fries were eaten and thrown at each other. A fry somehow managed to get caught in Seokmin’s shirt. It was hilarious watching him fumble around to get it out. Jihoon laughed so hard he snorted, which caused the whole group just to laugh harder.

Turns out, chili cheese dogs are very messy, especially when they’re made right. Jihoon didn’t even realize he had some on his face until he felt a finger on his cheek. Soonyoung was staring at him very intently yet with a smile as he wiped the chili off Jihoon’s gorgeously pale face. That pale face turned red very quickly.

Quickly noticing what he was doing, Soonyoung just smiled widely and the chili from his fingers. “You had a little chili on your face. Don’t worry, I got it.”

Soonyoung had this uncanny talent of looking completely confident in whatever he did, and this made Jihoon so jealous. If he had half of Soonyoung’s confidence, he could do anything.

Doyoon came over a few minutes later to check on them. Soonyoung ordered another chocolate shake for the two of them. “We’re curious about what happened. Are you okay?” Soonyoung added reaching across Jihoon to take his friend’s free hand. Doyoon nodded, tears threatening to fall again just at the thought of it.

“Seungcheol and I were both idiots. I found out his mother was diagnosed with cancer that year we were apart. She’s still fighting to hold on. The reason he’s been slacking off in class is because he spends so much time with her. He keeps bottling up his emotions that is making him anger easier. I didn’t stop to consider him, and he didn’t stop to consider me,” Doyoon explained.

Jihoon nodded. “Are you two together again?” he asked worriedly.

Doyoon shook his head. “Not yet, but we’re definitely friends again. I’m going to give him some time to clean up his act. This weekend I’m going to go visit his mom. I’ve missed her so much.”

“We wish you luck, man. Don’t hesitate to call us if you need to talk. We got your back,” Soonyoung reassured him.

“Thanks. Let me get that shake for you.”

~*~

The night ended with Jihoon and Soonyoung sharing the last of their shake, and Seungkwan taking a picture of them again. The bill was split four ways. Doyoon received a huge tip. Everyone was happy by the end of the night.

Soonyoung purposely lagged behind so he could talk with Jihoon alone after the date. Seungkwan and Seokmin caught the clue. They made an excuse of wanting to walk through the park on their way back to leave them alone. Soonyoung was silently thankful that those two were smart enough to know what he intended.

“You don’t mind if I walk you home, right?” Soonyoung asked. Jihoon resisted the urge to roll his eyes. So, that’s why he wanted to lag behind. He wanted to walk me home. I may not be a helpless girl but that’s still very kind of him.

Jihoon shook his head, feeling a chill and stuffing his hands in his pockets. “I don’t mind. That’s very gentleman like of you.” He started to shiver. It seemed like it was colder than usual.

Soonyoung would’ve given him his jacket… if he had one. He decided to do the second best thing: body heat. Body heat was the best policy. He moved behind Jihoon and wrapped his arms around Jihoon’s body. “Better?” Soonyoung slyly asked with a stupid grin on his face. Jihoon hit him, but let him continue. Soonyoung was very warm… and his cologne smelled very nice.

The couple stopped outside Jihoon’s small apartment, Soonyoung’s arms still wrapped around Jihoon. Neither of them really wanted to move from their position, but the night had to end at some point. Reluctantly, Soonyoung finally pulled away from the smaller man, twenty minutes since he first wrapped his arms around the smaller man.

“Um, I had a great time tonight,” he said awkwardly, scratching the back of his head nervously.

Jihoon involuntarily whined slightly at the loss of contact, and blushed bright red when he realized the sound he just made. “Um, yeah, me too,” he replied just as awkwardly.

Soonyoung shifted slightly on his feet. “So… I’ll text you later then?” Jihoon nodded quietly in response. He wished that Soonyoung wouldn’t leave.

He turned quickly to enter his home, but a hand grabbed him and pulled him back around. Before he knew it, lips were pressed against his and he melted. Regardless of how sloppy it was, the feeling of Soonyoung’s lips just felt so right.

Call Jihoon a sap all you want, but in that moment, he felt as if Soonyoung was his soul mate, and nothing could separate them so long as they both lived.

And nothing did.

Hello everyone, thank you for reading. I've recently gotten hugely obsessed with Seventeen and in turn SoonHoon. Please feel free to point out any mistakes, any awkward phrases, etc. I love the critics. Please comment and subscribe, it really makes my day when I see that.

Honestly, I wrote this in two days on my 3 day trip off to college. It was very spur of the moment, but I hope you enjoyed it.
